Companies Are Now Bidding for Contracts to Build Trump's Border Wall

Mar 23, 2017 // 1:46pm

Companies are now submitting proposals to construct President Trump's promised wall along the Mexican border.

About 500 companies signed up to bid and designs are due to the Department of Homeland Security by next week, William La Jeunesse reported.

The White House has released preliminary guidelines for the wall, which must be 30 feet high while looking imposing from the Mexican side and aesthetically pleasing from the U.S.

White House requirements for border wall.
There's already a backlash from California, with a San Francisco lawmaker proposing a bill that would prohibit the city from doing business with companies working on the wall.

La Jeunesse said the president is asking for $3 billion to start the project, with estimates for the project at around $10 billion.

The schedule laid out by the administration calls for contracts to be awarded at the end of May, with construction beginning in San Diego the following month.

I hear they are going to paint pictures of trump on both sides - the Mexican side with horns.

I also hear Drafter is paying for the wall - trumps lawyers have a copy of his offer made on the internet.

Gen'rals gathered in their masses,
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction,
Sorcerer of death's construction
In the fields the bodies burning,
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind,
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh Lord yeah

As much as I am in favor of blowing up a few random people... cheap technology has already overcome the landmine. The have a rolly thing they just need to send across first. Then everyone runs shortly after.

Trump is missing an obvious chance to build international relations, along with the wall. He should negotiate a three part trade agreement with China, Mexico and the US, with China building the wall (after all, they have the best one in the world, and with the wages they pay their laborers, it'll be only a few million dollars), Mexico paying China for it, and the three nations agreeing to be preferred trading partners among themselves with a list of mutually selected natural resources, products and technologies.

WTH has Tillerson been doing???

I nominate delta1 for
Department HEAD
OF
THE U.S. COMMERCE DEPARTMENT

GREAT IDEA...
Or use Vietnamese builders and Venezuela's masses
Whose country is falling to pieces...each worker would jump at the chance to earn decent money
To send back home...CHina should back bonds takin' out by mexico for 75% of the cost
and the U.S.for only 25 % of the wall cost , since we have supported
10+% of their population for 20-25 years...

What if the people who hired illegals were held personally liable for the cost of deportation, and a huge fine per incident. Hand the bill to the owner of the company, or surrender your business and property to auction. I think we're going about this all wrong.

I'm no expert on the subject, by any means...in fact, I'm still not convinced there's much of a problem....

But...I just wonder sometimes....if we took just a fraction...maybe 10% of the proposed Wall expenditures...and, instead, put it into workplace/employer enforcement....how much more effective that might be....

And then....as Steve suggested....actually put some tooth into the fines for guilty employers.....then...if you still want to build a wall, pay for it with the fines

absolutely!

I think....I'm not sure I fully understand what a 'sanctuary city' is...I think it has lots of definitions....but...if a city refuses to comply with federal law...then, toss the mayor in jail...and withhold federal funding.....if, by sanctuary city, someone means...."if we stop and frisk someone, we're not going to ask for their green card or passport"....well, I'm not sure that is grounds for sending the mayor to prison....

But, if a city has a policy that says "even when we KNOW a dude is illegal....and the feds ask us if the guy is illegal....well, we're just not going to answer"....that's fd up and that city can be hung out to dry

Why stop there. Legal weed states are breaking federal law. Lock up their governors, legislators and all their staff, confiscate the list of users and lock them up too. Politics should be D.C. Based.

ok, victor......it isn't too difficult to imagine that local/geographic drug user laws can be envisioned....and 'regulated'...especially, if sourced locally......however, having states with different immigration laws is sorta 'inconceivable'....

Colorado dope legalization doesn't quite have the same impact on AZ border town that CT ignoring federal immigration laws does...I'm all for states rights, but I kinda see the need for immigration to be a fed thing

Tell that to Nebraska. I'm not kidding. They take huge exception to the CO legalization and its impact (multiple impacts) on their state. It's been a big issue and they want compensation from CO.

Which federal laws are ok to ignore and who decides?

I'm not arguing what you think. I'm not arguing sanctuary cities are ok. I'm arguing legal pot states are not (at this time). I'm not even arguing pro or anti pot or immigrants. Have the balls to change the fed laws (immigration or weed). But as a government official you can't pick and choose which laws to skip.

I probably need to read up before commenting much further....but I will anyway....I think the constitution might say something about feds and immigration.....or at least citizenship....but I don't think it says much about dope

Brockton has the highest number of GOP voters? No way!

High School sports teams, especially football, often receive national attention. Also the home of the late, great heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano...but

Once upon a time it was a thriving, working class city, prominent in the shoe manufacturing industry. Fell on hard times decades ago when that industry left and has never really recovered. Compared to 98.2% of MA, they lag behind by most measurements other than good schools, which are hindered by lack of safety.

High crime, higher than normal (for MA) unemployment, high rates of poverty...there must be some mistake re: GOP voters, unless it's just sheer numbers (good sized population) and not percent. If percent, there are several very wealthy towns that would clobber Brockton when it comes to GOP activity.

If a wall were to be built around Brockton it would be to keep the drug dealers inside.
