At home when my friend called to tell me. He and his Mom were big fans and went to the dress rehearsal for the Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite concert back in 1973.

I worked in a record store back then and later on that sad day, by the time I got in for my shift, all the Elvis records had sold out. For a few months, we couldn't get enough of his stuff. They'd come in and within a few days, sell out.

Not exactly, I was 17 @the time. Probably with my best friend who's Mom was a Yuuuuuge fan, my Mom was too but not like Mrs. Fischer. I remember alot of crying n carrying on. My best friend's uncles (2 of 3) played guitars and used to play alot of Elvis' stuff, Dennis and I learned in turn from them.....we were bummed out as well.

There was no internet or cell phones or cable TV back then. I got back to my room and turned on the radio.

It was the main topic of the day.

The Sangria was very good.

Age 15...remember sitting in my room....DJ on Milwaukee AOR station, ZMF announced it -- I recognized it as a pretty big deal, but I was never a fan and it didn't crack my consciousness the way others who died around then....Kath, Skynyrd crew, Moon....and Bon Scott & John Bonham a little later....clearly recall when Lennon died, but then I was mostly amused by the anguish exhibited by my peers

Not exactly sure. Was that in the summer? Maybe I was on Cape Cod as a kid.
But I do remember my overly serious, somewhat humorless cousin mourning heavily that Elvis had died. He went on a multi-day Elvis album playing marathon. I remember thinking, in whatever kid words I would have thought at that time, "Dude, don't worry, you will get over it. He is just a crooner, whom you don't even know."

On Long Island's east end working a summer job harvesting shellfish. When we came in for the day, one of our neighbors told us Elvis had "left the building". She was very upset. I enjoy his music for the most part but not worth crying over.
