My kind of place, liquor up front and poker in the rear! Oh, wait, that's probably not what you meant.

DQB, did that care pkg. make it to you a few months ago back in the blizzard? Glad you were able to tunnel your way out.

Hey, fella! Yes! I pm-ed you way back when, but I never got back to forum posting like I needed to / meant to, big slacker that I am. i had fallen off the face of the forum when you hit me, and I failed to fall back on because I suck at simple human stuff like that sometimes (coughfrequentlycoughcough) Between work life and family life, I was on a low social media diet to keep up with it all...and that part worked, because boyo safely navigated to Japan and settled into his ship - it never occurred to me how many simple "adulting" things like finding a concierge desk when you're lost in a foreign airport, or purchasing a cell phone & phone plan or finding a church service, or booking a hotel room, AREN'T simple when you've never done them before. Loooooottttssss of hours texting at 2-3am because he forgets about a 16 hour time difference lol. Also got the princess through her freshman year ON THE HONOR ROLL thank you(!), and survived what might possibly be some of the WORST (Heavily edited, and yes, that bad.) class parents without quitting or developing a drinking problem. Quitting was actually on the table, but they had my back and gave me a raise, and I'm still there, so apparently I got over it lol.
Got dug out of the blizzard, and then it started raining and melting at the same time and half the state washed away in the floodwaters. Rebuilding a LOT of roads & repairing a LOT of bridges this year. Had our last (fingers crossed knock on wood) snow a couple weeks ago...next up is fire season!

And drivers ed.

May revisit the drinking problem option...

Been to Brisbane, as well... and Melbourne, and Sydney. There's a zoo in Brisbane that will let you hold, and take pictures with, a koala. Lone Pine Sanctuary: http://www.koala.net/

I went, I held a koala... I took pictures. SUPER soft fur... Super SHARP claws.

I just remembered you mentioned this one! Boyo was at Lone Pine cuddling the Koalas day before yesterday! He got a line on a sweet GBR scuba tour in cairns, too. Turns out the MWR guy on his boat is... boyo's LPO. That worked out nicely!

Hanging on the deck with the puppy dog & bunny, enjoying my coffee in the evening cool while puppy has an anxiety attack over the early fireworks going off. What I'm NOT doing? 1) fretting about prepping for work tomorrow because I got the day off WOOHOOOO! and 2) fretting about what time it is in Brisbane and how to get a target lock on boyo's location long enough for Amanda the Amazing Australian Bakery Lady to tag him. I lost three days to a 16 hour time change and boyo's restless spirit!

Damn. Coffee is low. Is anyone making a fresh pot?

Sorry, I somehow deleted most of my PMs awhile ago and didn't recall. And yes, alcohol may have been involved. Blushing

Good to hear boyo is doing well on his adventure!

Hello patrons and supporters of this fine cafe!

Some of you may recall I have been out of steady work since April last year. I worked for almost six months helping a friend out in his store but that's been it.

Semi-retired is not for me! I found a manager position that I want and need. I've had three telephone interviews and now I'm scheduled for an in-person interview on Monday.

15 months at home and I'm going stir crazy. I really want this job, it's a new field for me but one I know about well enough to get this far in the interview process.

If ya'll have some extra good and positive vibes to share I'd appreciate some.

Thanks much.

Good thoughts and prayers for you Waldo! You've got this one - think positive! If you made it through three interviews already, you've got this! Barring wildly inappropriate attire, swearing, unseemly bodily emissions from any orifice, picking your nose, neglecting deodorant, drinking at the interview, hitting on the interviewer...geez! This is a lot more stressful than I realized! Hang in there Waldo!

How did it go?

Two months at our new place and I already am super pissed at the neighbors. Their yard is not graded properly, so there are water issues. Previous owner of our place had to reroute her sump pump twice, and this week they tore up our street (specifically in front of our garage) to put in a sistern that we will probably be required to route the pump to again. Not happy. At some point, the neighbors should be required to regrade their lot. I don't understand why it is only our fault. The city has stated it was because of a failed drainage pipe they own, and the property being improperly graded. So I am sitting outside watching them cover our vehicles in concrete dust and glaring.

Jerks.

1) Hope you aced the interview and get the job, waldo.

2) Sorry to hear your new home is being ruined by your neighbors. Have you spoken to them about re-grading? If you have, and they have shined you on, then it may be time to get some legal help...

They are OLD... Their son is older than we are. He is driving force behind this. The city thinks it is mainly our house that is the problem. Our sump goes off a lot. My guess is the ground is saturated from other houses sumps.

The city has suggested that we share the cost of rerunning the discharge to the sistern. That way we don't have the full cost.

On deck. Feet up, beverages on hand. Soaking foot in cold water. Noticed some swelling on back of heel. Explains why it hurt. Tank will probably make me go to doc.

But I don't wanna.

Tank is probably just glad it's not HIM going!

Once today is finished, I have one more day of work before kinda sorta vacation! School fall contract starts Tuesday, so I'll still be working...but I'll be on contract, not on the clock, and I'll be coming into the room while the kids are OUT of the room! That's a VACATION for sure!
Got the two new teachers oriented...and I love them already! Gonna be a good year!
Boyo is in Cairns for a few days cruising the jungle and diving the Reef, princess is almost in the driver's seat...heaven help me...

I do believe this day merits a margarita! (In a few hours.)

I'll pour myself a Whisky, wash the dishes and turn the lights off on my way out.

Somebody plugged the toity.... probably Drafter after Taco Tuesday. I'm not cleaning that up.

If it's not even noon yet, but it's as dark as 8-9pm outside from smoke, does that count as late enough for an e-margarita? I figure I can squeeze one in - pixels have zero carbs, right?

Not at the moment. Air quality has been dropped to "very unhealthy,” so everyone is being told to try to stay inside and avoid breathing more than absolutely necessary lol. The fire itself is now 4 miles south west of town...but we have dry thunderstorms and 50mph winds in tomorrow's forecast, so it'll be in town tomorrow. Evacuations in some areas already. We are on the north end of town...granted it's a tiny town, but I don't think that one is going to make it out to us. So, smoke inhalation is a problem, but actual flames not so much...FOR US. My principal and several of my coworkers are probably going to have to evacuate if it spreads as anticipated.

Thought it was snowing this morning. It was ash.

Thanks NapalmMan! Hugs help everything, don't they?

Might be needing another one of those, with a tequila chaser!
Princess did her final drive today. Instructor said she was clearly wound up and really nervous and he thinks she freaked herself out a little, but she passed! I let her drive us home...and I think we are going to spend a LOT of time in the fairgrounds parking lot and in our quiet neighborhood before I let her take my Blue Baby (my car is my adopted third child) into the danger zone! Hooooolllleeeeeeeeee cow...
I don't know how those instructors do it...I really don't.
Pot or Prozac...one or the other, but there's no other way those guys could get in the car with those kids one after another, over and over and over...eeeegad.

Watched the Perseid's Fri and Sat. Viewing was a little tough with the moon still quite bright in it's waning stages, but was still decent. Nice cool weather too.

Looking forward to the Leonid's in Nov!

Coffee is great this morning, thanks!

Missed the Perse's this year. I used to wake my son up around 4 and we would lay on the patio wall to watch them. Good memories!

Taking the bride to STL to watch eclipse, not a room to be had in southern Illinois, nor campground!

Most of STL was sold out but found a room at one of the casinos at a good price for Sunday night.

Guessing I will be sitting in traffic for hours getting back to Chicago but should be a fun experience.
