I had L4/5 disk removed over 20 years ago, and yes, the pain in her hip and foot (no side of thigh discomfort?) is probably due to the pinching of the sciatic nerve.
She will be cured instantly of the cause, but really should continue the series of small movement exercises she will likely be prescribed to rebuild the support muscles in her lower back. There may be sudden flares of the old pain, flashes really, but eventually they dissipate with continued exercising.
