They just took Mom to the operating room.

Her procedure will last about 2 hours.

They are going to remove a disc and replace it with a prosthetic disc. Then they are going to fuse the joint.

After surgery and recover she will go to a room.

She should be in her room by 2PM our time.

They told me they will update me hourly.

As soon as I hear something I'll pass it along.

Thanks for the prayers.

Just doing the surgery at her age says some positive things about her... usually bone degeneration or heart problems would prevent it... Docs must have a lot of faith in her.. ThumpUp

Luckily that type of surgery is pretty cut and dry. Fusions do add a bit of risk but the good thing about an artificial disc is that she can go about her life without much impediment. She will have general stiffness in that area and reduced amounts of pain permanently though. God bless you, your mother, and your family.

Still waiting. They've been updating us about every 45 minutes.

I'm feeling like she'll be fine. She's a tough old bird. She beat breast cancer when she was 73.

Just talked to the Dr. The surgery very well.

They removed the disc. She had bad arthritis. But he stabilized her spine with 2 or 3 screws. He also put some bone graph in between the L4 & L5 vertebra.

He's confident not only will her hip pain be relived, but he thinks the pain in her right foot will go away.

She's in recovery now. She should in a room in about an hour. He said she'll be here until Thursday or Friday.

I had L4/5 disk removed over 20 years ago, and yes, the pain in her hip and foot (no side of thigh discomfort?) is probably due to the pinching of the sciatic nerve.

She will be cured instantly of the cause, but really should continue the series of small movement exercises she will likely be prescribed to rebuild the support muscles in her lower back. There may be sudden flares of the old pain, flashes really, but eventually they dissipate with continued exercising.

You know I'm putting out all I got for you and your moms, Anth.

love ya bro.

She had a rough couple of days following surgery. They put 4 screws in her spine plus a bone graph. She's doing much better now.

Thanks for praying for her.
