He posted inflammatory crap for attention anonymously. It got bigger than he anticipated however that was ALWAYS the risk, whether he knew it or not. Your boss could read your dumb azz posts at any point in time, just by dumb luck. Anyone you know may at any time run across your anonymous posts and put enough info together to figure out they know you in real life. This is just a difference in scale.
many doubt this is what happened in this case though... in fact, the more andrew went into how he tracked this guy down, the more unbelievable it was... general concensus among (not me) those in the know - andrew went to cnn's parent company and got ip addresses...
and I agree that anything you post anonymously is always in danger of being exposed... but how would you feel if fox news made a portfolio of every bad thing you'd ever posted online about anything - even things taken out of context - and gave it to your boss and your girlfriend and everyone else you know? for one, I know you'd sue the sh*t out of fox, that's for sure...
