SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio -- An Ohio woman made a frantic call to 911 on Thursday after her pet boa constrictor wrapped itself around her neck and refused to release itself from biting her nose.

Firefighters arriving at the home in Sheffield Lake rescued the 45-year-old woman by chopping off the snake's head, officials said.

The woman suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, Sheffield Lake Fire Lt. Wes Mariner said.

The woman called 911 just after 2 p.m. to report that her 5-foot boa constrictor was wrapped around her neck and biting her face.

"I have a boa constrictor stuck to my face," the panicked woman told a police dispatcher, according to a 911 call released Friday. (Listen to the call in the video at the top of the post.)

The woman later said she was unable to pry open the snake's jaw after it had attached itself to her nose, according to the call.

Firefighters went to the woman's house on East Lake Road near Howell Street and used a pocket knife to cut its head off, Mariner said.

"The snake wouldn't release," Mariner said. "Because of how close it was wrapped around her, there were no other options, from what I understand."

The woman told the dispatcher she rescued two boa constrictors Wednesday, and that she had 11 snakes at the house, according to the 911 call.
