Every athlete makes more then they should and the still can't be happy with that. Work a 9-5 and then get back to me about collective bargaining contracts and money issues these athletes have.
I dunno....what's the comparative length/career earnings between NFL and NBA? I suspect that most NBA pros play a lot longer. How many WR's play more than 9 or 10 years? There's a hell of a lot of cash flowing into the NFL from gate, TV, merch, etc. Who deserves a high proportionate cut, if not the players?
NFL players bear a much higher risk of serious, life-altering injury every time they step on the field. I feel for the athletes...most of them, anyway. Brain damage is not just a risk, it is a near certainty for all but kickers/punters.
They do lose a fair amount of my sympathy when they try play both sides of the cash grab game -- I don't see how they can claim to need free-market, free-agency, opt-out contracts...but then rely on collective bargains. Don't talk out both sides of your mouth. But, go ahead and get what you can while you're healthy.
