You need to check with military personnel, military retires, military disabled and SSA recipients to see what they think about the pay raises and Cola increases during that time frame or for that matter his entire presidency.

Does your praise include the $15 an hour for burger flippers?

we all agree that one can make any number of points about numbers and that more can be done to improve the lives of average Americans...but facts are facts...

Congress determines the rate of pay for members of the military, not the President...

the cost of living since 2008 to the present has increased by 13.5%. It costs $113.49 to buy the same goods that cost $100 in 2008.

I am sure that if there are similar numbers, ie., if wages for average Americans go up by 3.2% or more, in 2017, the Trump Administration will point to that as proof that it is doing a good job for the American worker, and rightly so. I hope that the rates of increased wages is higher, and if so, Trump should bask in the glow...

I'm just glad Bernie is not in there, he would be "trying" to give away everything for free, and make us pay for it.

At least that's what he said he was gong to do.

Personally, I think he would have got demoralized pretty quick when he realized that people don't really want their wallets raided.

Let me answer...........Obama and a Democratic majority congress.

Obama only had a majority during his first two years, from 2009 until the beginning of 2011, and only had a super majority/filibuster proof number of Dems in the Senate for 72 days, during which he got Obamacare passed.

In 2008, the basic military pay rate for E-1 was $1347.
in 2011, the basic military pay rate for E-1 was $1467. ($100 more in three years)

Under Obama's first two year period in office when he had a majority in Congress, two years, military pay went up 8.9%.

In 2010, the GOP won majorities in both the House and Senate, and began controlling Congress from early 2011 until the end of Obama's term as President, running a full-court press in opposition to anything Obama wanted to do.

In 2011, the basic military pay rate for E-1 was $1467.
In 2014, the basic military pay rate for E-1 was $1531. ($64 more in three years)
In 2016, the basic military pay rate for E-1 was $1567. ($100 more in five years...it took Obama+Dem Congress 2 years)

The GOP controlled Congress during Obama's term raised military pay by 4.36% during their first three years, about half of what Obama did during his two years with a friendly Congress. During the entire period of GOP dominated Congress during Obama's watch, nearly 6 years, military pay only went up 6.8%

Truth matters...

Al, will admit I was wrong on my comment about the Democrat controlled congress, had not had my first cup of coffee of the morning. For what it is worth the Republicans did not gain control until 2012.

Also, following are the mil pay raises, and cola's for mil retirees, disabled vets, and SSA for 01-16. These are the actual numbers so spin them any way you want.

YR..........................Mil Pay.......................Cola's
01.............................4.1..........................2.6
02.............................6.9..........................1.4
03.............................4.7..........................2.1
04.............................4.2..........................2.7
05.............................3.5..........................4.1
06.............................3.1..........................3.3
07.............................2.7..........................2.3
08.............................3.5..........................5.8
09.............................3.9...........................0
10.............................3.4.......................... 0
11.............................1.4..........................3.6
12.............................1.6..........................1.7
13.............................1.7..........................1.5
14.............................1.0..........................1.7
15.............................1.0...........................0
16.............................1.3.........................(.3)

not trying to spin...just looking at numbers, which since 2011, are pathetic...we can and should do more for our military...with our economy on solid ground again, there's no excuse for Congress to continue the lag in wages for active and retired military...
