North Korea's top diplomat has called US President Donald Trump's speech to the UN "the sound of a barking dog".

Speaking to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Mr Trump said he would "totally destroy" North Korea if it posed a threat to the US or its allies.

Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho's comments were North Korea's first official response to the speech.

The North has continued to develop its nuclear and weapons programmes, in defiance of a UN ban.

Let's hope that cooler minds prevail and that this doesn't escalate any further. fog

China says Fat's "equilibrium" comment means he is not threatening to attack but rather saying he should no longer be considered a target for regime change...based on US attempts in Iraq, Libya, Syria etc...none of whom had developed "protection" that he now has.

Trump and Fatty should get together at the UN and publicly measure each other's hands...

Getting China to shut off the money spigot in Pyongyang is a GREAT first step.

I really don't care what he says on Twitter or what he grabs...he crushed a homerun on this. The Kenyan King wasn't going to do a thing and bowed down to anyone in regards to conflict. Look at where that got us? W wasn't much better. Clinton was on par with the Kenyan King.

Ever wonder where NK got the idea to start up a weapon program? Now, this is for the adults in the room...Iran is looking at how this goes down.

China has the inside shot, and they have been doing the money squeeze for months now (mostly coal), maybe longer.

But they are not being told what to do by us.

In fact they have asked Trump to be quiet as it is harder to negotiate peace (the best result for the world!) when one side threatens annihilation.

The new sanctions will hurt China more than NK for their non-compliance.

He and his staff mention it Frank because the launching of ICBM overhead of our allies is a very serious matter and it should cease and desist.

I agree so much that I'd say cease and desist even if we aren't especially friendly with the target nation.

I have no qualms with Trump getting any credit he deserves if the goals are accomplished, I'm not dumb enough to root against Presidents I do not love.

"Barking dog" is a rather generous characterization. Are they trying to kill us with kindness?

Japan, S. Korea and Taiwan aren't really happy and safe.

They cannot and shouldn't trust China to have their best interests. History in that region shows us that much. Letting a nation like NK have ANY military should've been shut down a LONG time ago. The fact that we're still there assisting with border patrol there and lost lives protecting it shouldn't be forgotten.

This is a mess and as dumbed down Trump speaks he still has advisors and a military to guide him...so far he's listened and gotten rid of those that were in the way.

We've been playing a lot of Chess on that side of the pond. We have built a wedge between Russia and China with Afghanistan, we've secured full support of Saudi and have had our allies cut out Oman so that the Russians can't pump money into the Al-Jazeera propaganda machine, we've built up India enough to take on China, we've began to expand our own naval fleet, we're pulling out of importing from international markets by deflating our dollar, there are only a couple more decisions that need to be made. We may be at war by Christmas.
