I don't know, Frank. Lots of people, including myself, have stopped watching.

Ratings are down. So is attendance.

Yep, but you forgot to mention the fan tweets about being disgusted.

From February 1984 - May 1985 I was a shipmate of a young man from your neck of the woods. His name was Nicholas V. Barei. About a week after I PCS'd off the Chase, Nick lost his life in the service of this country. The flag these rich brats are protesting is the same flag that flies over his grave.

I'd say a little more, but I'd get the hammer.

I agree. All the more reason to honor those who gave their lives so those pu$$ies can be free. This entire movement started because a brat was pissed off because he got benched.

Frank, I don't see this as a freedom of speech issue. It us a work related issue. Most employers do not allow promotion of religion or politics by their employees while at work, or in connection with work. I would think this certainly has political connotations.

59, 60, 61...

I have no argument to say you gents are wrong.

I have heard and read many quotes from guys on The Patriots last night and this morning, To a man, they spoke of loving this country, having pride and gratitude toward our military/police/firefighters, loving the flag and realizing only our greatness could allow what they are doing, no where else would they be given the opportunities they have been given in life, etc.

Several spoke of having immediate family serving in the military.

They are concerned it looks different than that to many other citizens.

However, I wouldn't do it.

Spey did make me think of a question because it is a workplace...we are not asked to rise for the Anthem nor say the Pledge where I work. Anyone here have that experience?

Sounds more like crocodile tears to me. Obviously, they didn't anticipate the backlash. I'm going to bet they now realize the damage they did and are trying to put a spin on it.

Not sure the relevance of the work place anthem. But, if their employer requires it then they have two choices, comply or take a walk and don't let the door hit them on the a$$ on the way out.

What backlash? Don't co fuse this echo chamber for the real world. I'm thinking the Patriots will be ok.

And ownership is obviously supportive as well. I know I'm crossing threads (because for some reason this topic is really upsetting and important to folks in here so there are multiple threads about this totally non important outrage ..... ) but their hand book... blah blah blah....

The President needs to stay out of this crap. Y'all thought Obama should have stayed out of such things (correctly in my opinion).

If you want to boycott go for it. The NFL will be fine.

Before she became a director, my wife was a preschool teacher for the Head Start program here in Massachusetts.
Kids from difficult family circumstances, mostly.

There are periods of time here in New England where the weather is uncooperative for many days or sometimes a week or more at a time. No outdoor activities. A lot of pent up feelings.

So they would find a way to allow a safe "free for all" type of activity so the little brats could let it all out.

That's what we need for the NFL players.
So the whiny brats can let it all out.

My mistake. Only a half dozen CBidders are upset and boycotting the NFL. Everyone else in America is cool with it.

I've been boycotting the NFL ever since the NFL sold exclusive rights to Electronic Arts to make their video games. I also boycott EA for the same reason.

Abrig the NFL is making money hand over fist. There won't be any appreciable boycott even though some in here state they won't watch. They'll be fine unless the concussion issue gets them but that will take time.

And the outrage is louder in this far right echo chamber than the real world. Something shiny will distract soon anyway.

It is fun to see a politically correct issue y'all can get behind though.

It's amazing to me folks can't just accept what he says and think they know better what someone is really thinking. I guess it's easier to win arguments if you can define what people think and argue with that rather than argue with what they are really saying.

And if you make something up to discredit them you don't have to consider their message at all.

The real morons are the owners for tolerating this behavior. Pro sports' ratings are down across the board. I'm sure there are a multitude of reasons. But, when one chooses to politicize one’s livelihood a losing battle ensues. Those who support said behavior are going to watch the games. The leagues may see a temporary spike upwards as the winds blow, but those new viewers aren't true fans and will quickly become ambivalent and tune back to what occupied that space before.

No net gain.

The net loss comes when the 40% or so fans who don't agree begin to tune out.

The players in their prime will be largely unaffected. They've already made or they are under contract to receive the vast majority of their earnings.

But, the owners as well as the future draft picks are going to see their fortunes suffer. Though tickets may be sold out now, when 20% or more of the seats are empty on Sunday there will be a hell of a lot of $12 a bottle beer and $20 hamburgers going unsold. Plus, the networks aren't going to continue paying the packages they are paying teams now when the advertising revenue drop due to viewership share loss.

Careful what you wish for.......

People tune in to Sports to tune out everything else. Politics, personal issues,work...it's a diversion. Always has been always will be. Mixing shouldn't be allowed. Want to protest? Do it on your own time. Want to kneel? Make sure it's worth it first of all and then do it on your own time. I don't want to see that B$ on tv. I've pretty much cut out Sports but still like to relax and watch a competitive game. To be perfectly honest the last 5 years I've watched the NHL more than any other Sport...COMBINED. I just don't have the time to devote to the pixelated box. That said, when multimillionaire athletes feel the need to tell you more than what deodorant to use...turn off the box.

That's what I'm doing. Not out of some boycott...because I'm bored with the blurred attack. Don't have time for it. Have a good Super Bowl...I didn't watch the last one either!

it is a diversion for me, and I'll move on from the politics and watch it for sport enjoyment.

I may be wrong, but other than a few special pregame military salutes, I don't recall the anthem being televised much if at all for several years now...lost advertising revenue opportunity I always figured. Money over Country for the owners...yawn.

And I just gotta tell ya Doc, you missed the greatest comeback in the history of Super Bowls last year!
