Leaving for Los Cabos, Baha Mexico next week for some fishing. Well alot of fishing really. Can I bring a cheap plastic cutter on my carry on or do I have to cut 30 friggin' smokes right now ahead of time? TSA rules say nothing about it as far as I read. Your replies will be most appreciated. Saludos!!! Beer

I just called TSA for you via WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Travelers may call TSA Cares toll free at 1-855-787-2227 prior to traveling with questions about screening policies, procedures and what to expect at the security checkpoint.

I spoke with Victoria and she said that cigar cutters may be carried in checked baggage only.

While I'm sure Chris is technically correct, I have not had an issue carrying on cutters for domestic or international flights. Torch lighters are a no-no, but I heard (wink) that if you pack a cheap one or two with plastic tanks with your toiletries you rarely have issues....

I'm flying to Ybor for the cigar fest in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if I would have a problem checking a lighter with no fuel in it? Just ask the guys at the cigar lounge to fill it for me?

Probably easier to just pick up a bic and learn how to light my cigars with spills.

TSA will flag the lighter if they see it. I was given a new lighter at the RMCF still wrapped in it's cello and obviously never having been filled. TSA would not let it pass. Go with the cheap Bic on arrival.

Fuel or no, either stick it in with your toiletries or buy a cheap one when you get there. I keep cheap travel torches for that purpose.

My last flight I threw a plastic cutter in my toiletries bag, and two BIC lighters. No issues.

cutters are no longer an issue with them ... dunno the official policy on soft flame lighters, but I've had no problems with them going back at least 10 years ...

I've been flying with them packed in my checked in luggage with NO issues at all.

Don't be a dumbass and try to take it on the plane in carry on or in your pocket!
