Recently won a Humi-Care HX10 Crystal Gel Rectangle Humidifier here on C-Bid. Filled it to the line with distilled water as the instructions stated. However, it continues to read at around 88% when stored in the humidor for a couple of days. The humidor is sealed well and is also lined with Spanish Cedar. The distilled water was absorbed by the gel, so there does not appear to be any excess distilled water.

The hygrometer reads closer to 68 - 72% when kept in my other humidors using Boveda packs.Recently won a Humi-Care HX10 Crystal Gel Rectangle Humidifier here on C-Bid. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks

No clue Big.
But, there's a reason most botl here stick with beads, or Bovedas, or a combination of the two.

Reading the OP was like Deja Vu. What kind of hygrometer do you have in that humidor with the humidifier ? Did you follow the instructions precisely ? Did you try using it in another humidor ?
THere have been mostly good reports on crystal jel humidifiers. I have a few small ones myself, but never use them exclusively in a humidor.

I've had the same problem with my rectangle humidifier. The crystal gel humidifiers are awesome, but they do have a downfall...they are a one way humdification device. Those rectangle humidifiers hold a lot of those gel beads, so it absorbs a lot more water than other devices. If you seasoned your humidor properly and you're using this humidifier, then your problem is over humidification. You're best bet is to go with a boveda, or open that sucker up and take some of the gel beads out. That's what I had to do..
