Here's a better photo of the two toned wooden ashtray that Hank the Tank included in his Secret Santa package. It was not displayed well in the picture among all the other goodies he sent me. Thanks again for brightening up my Christmas, Hank!!!

Very nice. How do you keep it looking that way after significant usage?

I have one without any finish on it and as long as you wipe it every once in a while, it stays pretty clean. Probably don't want to let the burning end of the cigar lay on the wood long...obviously. As long as it stays in the finger, no issues.

I seem to recall that Paul (tmctlt) used to make nice ashtrays. he'd probably be able to answer the question.

I've used it several times and have wiped it off with a moist cloth. I plan to use a clear lemon oil furniture polish or spray wax, like Pledge, to keep it shiny and bright.

I still have the ashtray that TMCTLT auctioned off for the troops a couple of years ago. Having been used as the big ashtray in the backyard, it has gotten dried out and dull. One of my New Year's projects is to sand it down and put a few fresh coats of finish on it and then polish it up.

I recall bidding on that ashtray...iirc, it was *really* nice.

Isn't there a glass top to prevent the wood from burning?

Yeah I'll bet that Cali heat has done a number on it Al. In hindsight I should have prolly used a marine type of finish such as Spar Varnish or one of many other that are available.

I'm sorry it's no longer pretty Al.

It's still a great ashtray, truly a work of art...and the glass bottom that covers the cigar bands does make it easy to clean and keeps the bands and wood from getting burned.

When I got it, I only smoked cigars outside, and because it was a big one, I used it when there were a few guys smoking. They all commented on how good looking it was. But after a long hot summer and fall, it has faded.

No worries Paul, a little sand paper and a couple of coats of stain will bring it back to life, but prolly not to its original glory when you created it...I'll take your advice and put on a few coats of marine varnish to help protect it. Or I'll just use it in the now completed man cave, to keep it from getting weathered.

You are thinking of the Ramon Bueso ashtray. Nice removable glass bottom upper tray with a storage drawer below.

I won one of those with a 5er of Robusto Extras for like $16. Good for herfs in my garage.

But, I'm 98.2% sure that Paul's ashtrays have a glass piece.
