horse Boo hoo!

Ups Just can't compete Here in Minnesota. Used to be the greatest 2 day shipment via the Post Office
but now it has devolved into five to six days and more expensive. This is not a complaint just nostalgia.

Although I've long been critical of the post office, incomprehensible changes at UPS have me not only in agreement with you, but stating outright that I AM complaining ...

I'm complaining that CI, for reasons beyond my understanding, refuses to ship via USPS and force the use of UPS ... not only as you observe, more expensive, it DOUBLES the time required for my orders to reach me ... my latest order was placed on a Monday, was filled on Tues and marked as shipped, though UPS actually picked it up on Wed ... it was delivered a week later with the note that it was being delivered A DAY EARLY inasmuch as the anticipated day of arrival had initially been yesterday (Thursday) ...

Had my order been shipped via USPS, it would have been delivered a week ago today ... I know this because other vendors that I sometimes use DO ship via USPS and orders from those other vendors on the East Coast reach me in that time ...

Steve, I am in total agreement with you . Everything you said is accurate. This must be a better deal for Cbid, but certainly not for the customer. Don't get me wrong! I love CBID and the great deals they offer but this would improve the satisfaction of many customers. 2-3 days extra from the time it reaches my State till the time delivered is inefficient and inferior.

UPS delivers to APOs? When did that change and they stopped requiring a physical address? Or does cbid just not ship to deployed soldiers and their civilian support personnel anymore?

^ I get stuff from USPS at my APO address all the time. It's our only source of delivery... well, unless you can ship something on the barge. That takes a couple of months!

I heard that sometimes UPS will deliver stuff to a USPS point and then USPS finishes the delivery... but I haven't seen that, that I know of....

That is how it happens. Reaches my city, and than is transfered to the post office and the post office delivers to residence. Apo is totally different ball game.

So, they do still use USPS after all and the whole "not an option anymore" is a line of crap.

I asked if I could use it but the answer was we don't use It for regular shipping. just as point of delivery for UPs shippments. With the final step carried out by the post office.

So they aren't exactly lying, just being boneheads.

I'm aware of how UPS Smart Post (chortle @ "smart") works. That's why it doesn't fly for APO/FPO.

So they obviously still have the capability to use USPS, just don't feel the need to offer it.

The problem lies in the fact that the customer is paying for the shipping. If the shipping were free, then they would have all the grounds and rights to send it whatever cheap and slow method they wanted. But the customer is paying, and that's where it falls flat. I can go to other domestic vendors and pay similar shipping costs and get the packages sent USPS. One even offers a membership where everything I buy is shipped for free under that membership (it's called plus, not platinum).

Yeah, cbid is operating under lower margins, but that's still no excuse. If the margins are that low and they are losing money on shipping as it is, then they could offer an "express upgrade" option. Have it follow the combined shipping policy, something like a $3 extra for the first item and $1 for each additional or whatever. Let people pick from USPS priority or real UPS Ground or something. I think they offer this at CI so the packing and shipping lines are all set up for it already.

Just checked the last box I got from them. No UPS at all. The box is marked USPS Priority Mail.

Well said Gerbil! I totally agree with what you stated.

In the earlier days Cbid offered USPS priority and got it to me in 2-3 days. This was great service with many happy customers. It was shipped Wednesday and arrived at my door that Saturday. Whats not to like. Now if it's shipped Wednesday, I can expect it the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Very inferior to the old service. Yes there should certainly be more choices.

In the end this post will just fade away like all good soldiers and reappear in another iteration a year or two down the road with similar comments and most likely nothing having changed or showing any inclination toward change.

Yeah, you're probably right, because CI and Cbid have gone from being decent companies to being nothing more than random excuse generators.

best way to ship is USPO Priority. It arrives in 2 -3 days. The UPS tp USPO route takes over a week to be delivered assuming its transferred to the correct Post Office. I had an order transferred to the wrong P.O. and it took a few more days. The shipping method used by CI and Cbid lets the cigars dry out longer. I wonder why they like that to happen.Anyone venture an answer

Ha, funny, I just emailed a request to ship VIA USPS since I haven't been on here awhile ( a few years anyway) and remember all my shipments coming that way but my most recent win had a UPS tracking number so I put in a request.

This was their response:

Good afternoon Mr. Litz,Thank you for choosing CigarBid.com. We’re sorry, but we are not in a position to change this shipping service or choose one carrier over the other.Saver shipping is a more economical shipping option which allows us to keep offering the variety of products you are used to ordering on our site without raising the shipping rates for additional units. It uses the USPS, UPS, or a combination of both and will deliver in no more than 6 business days.We apologize we’re unable to meet your request. If you have any additional questions, please let us know. We’re happy to help!Sincerely,DamarieCustomer Service

Oh..and Hi to everyone who remembers me...heh heh

All of my orders HAD been received quickly via UPS...until recently. Now they are shipped UPS, get delivered to the local USPS (which sucks) then USPS delivers to me.
Don't like this because it adds at least one day to the delivery time, and USPS tracking is so bad that they shouldn't even bother with it.
