I can name a lot more, but then I'd be pointing you towards the competition...and we don't want that, now do we?

I actually read on another forum just this morning that Jaime Garcia(Jose's son, and the other 'J' in JJ) was responsible for 5 Vegas Miami, not Pepin. It was Jaime that made the post, so seems like a reliable source.

"I'm on charge on the production of Tabacalera Cubana in Nicaragua and I was a creator of the blend for this new issue of 5 Vegas and the whole production of this is made in Nicaragua under my supervison, I hope that now everything could be clear, the band of the cigars say 5 Vegas Miami but we don't want to confuse anybody, these cigars are made in Nicaragua. I'm sorry for my English I used altavista to help me with the translation."

BTW, the description for the miami's here on CBID is:
"5 Vegas Miami is a product of the El Rey de los Habanos factory in Nicaragua. Sound familiar? If not, do a little research...I think you’ll be quite fond of the master-blender and cigar-maker in charge."

I thought El Rey de los Habanos was the Miami factory and that these were made in the Tabacalera Cubana in Nicaragua.

In a nutshell...

Jaime is indeed overseeing production, but the blend was a product of Pepin and 5 Vegas. Also, 5 Vegas Miami is made in both factories, Miami and Nicaragua, like so many other Pepin products.

There is a reason for this madness other than wanting to try some of the lesser known Pepin Blends. I am going to assemble a big Pepin lot for the upcoming OpFTH fundraiser , hopefully over 20 different cigars.

I've been researching Pepin : )

The retailer that has Pepin making Cuban Diplomat Corojo Rosado, Nacionales W, Habana Leon, Havana Soul, and Hirsh y Garcia (hint: he owns the spho) caught my interest. Surprisingly these are all made in the USA at his Miami factory, with tobaccos imported from abroad.

All of these cigars are getting great reviews (no surprise there), and being the curious type that I am I wanted to try them all ! Problem was that it was going to be an expensive proposition, as each line either offered a 5'er or a variety size sampler ranging from ~ $35-$60 each, times 5 different lines. I called their spho and we talked about Pepin a bit, and I asked them if they could make a sampler in one vitola, with a couple from each line. He said they do, it used to be on their website, but they still carry it in their spho - $49 for two churchills of each Pepin line - Wahooo!!

They also had a few boxes of Cuesta-Rey Stanford’s Cameroon Reserve Churchills left - I'm on cloud nine today !!!

I pulled the trigger and got them all----tried a few so far and the Habana Leon ( partagas ) and the Habana Soul ( R y J ) were almost spot on. I was very pleased.

^ Good to hear, I'm looking forward to trying them. The box prices aren't bad, comparable to the Black/Blue/White label lines. Wonder if they ever run specials on them ?

I have had the Blue (Original) and enjoyed it--have some in the humidor. Was thinking about buying a five pack of the Black (Cuban Classic) but I can't seem to find any real differences between the two. Both have corojo wrappers, both have Nicaraguan fillers. Some places say the Blue is stronger, some say the Black is...

If you've had both let me know the differences...

So none of you cigar experts know the difference? Maybe I just buy the black and let y'all "vets" find out.

Robert, for me they are extremely different. The Blue is the spicier of the two, IMO, and the Black a little more balanced. I would encourage you to pick up the Black and see for yourself. I prefer the Blue, but not by a wide margin. That said, neither are in my regular rotation.

Have the same basic thoughts and haven't really found a DPG blend that I've totally fallen in love with. And this may sound like nitpicking but it's sometimes so hard to take the bands off of Pepin related cigars (...My Father's comes immediately to mind...) that I kinda avoid smoking them. Yeah, yeah, a bit of a wussie there....

I seem to like most Pepin blends, or at least the ones I’ve tried, but not love them. I do really enjoy the MF #1. Not a Le Bijou or Antiguidad fan. Or the other one who’s name escapes me.

I have more Blue labels than just about any other DPG blends and typically like them more after a good l-o-n-g nap. Not a real big fan of the big pepper blast in the 1/3 when they're fresh.

Thanks for the info SmokeMonkey. I appreciate it. I tend to like a spicier cigar, so for now I'll hold off on the Black label. I have enjoyed the Blue label quite a bit. Based on the ones I've had they seem to taste better (and more balanced) after some time in the humidor. I also prefer the torpedo as opposed to the toro or robusto in this blend.

I like the original My Father too and have not tried the others that you mentioned. From what you have said maybe I'm not really missing out on the La Antiguedad, La Bejou or the El Centurion. I'll get to them one day but not with this order...

Thanks again.
