Good power-walking cigar.

As part of my 53 pound weight loss this past year, I have been power-walking 45 min to an hour each day. Most often I smoke a a cigar while doing it. Such a stick needs certain qualities:

- At least medium strength -- subtleties don't work pushing up a hill.
- Stays lit & burns straight-- Don't want to have to stop and relight or touch up even with the wind, the cold, the arms swaying and sometimes intermittent attention on my part.
- Likewise, it can't burn too hot or fast even under those conditions
- Last the whole walk or at least most of it.
- Taste good enough to make me want to do that walk!
- Not a premium-precious stick I only want to savor at sunset over a fine beverage, after a great meal, or that I will cry about if it gets dropped.

These requirements are even above from what I want in a golfing cigar since there is a lot of time while golfing in the cart or waiting at the tea or green to touch up, relight, start a new one, or otherwise deal with my smoke.

I have several that I rotate for the stroll, but one that has consistently met all of the above is the Rocky Patel Vintage 2003 Cameroon. Never have been a big RP fan (a friend of mine always pushing them on me!), but this one is quite good. They can be had for a reasonable price if look long and hard enough and worth a try, if you haven't had one.

if you're gonna lose weight through speed walking, remember it's not just about what you smoke, it's also about what you eat...

Also did Nutrisystem for 6 months, worked for me! 53 lbs in 6 months, now maintaining for 6 months with the walking and watching portion sizes....and lighting up instead of donuts!

I found exercising and smoking really didn't mesh well. I have to stop to smoke so having a long burner is important. Dry box your smokes. Intermix your work with lots of rest stops.

If your exercise allows you the lung capacity to smoke.. you maybe need to up the intensity.

I checked my Strunk and White and there is an appendix that says 'power walking' and 'cigar smoking' are not allowed in the same flow of an idea. But could be acceptable as a colloquial euphemism at best.

Try race walking instead -you will be noticed. Smoke the cigar when you are more relaxed. Race walking is an Olympic event.

Well, I guess I'll answer your question.
1. Diesel, most I've tried fit your conditions.
2. La Herencia Cuban Oscuro Fuerte
3. 5 Vegas AAA
4. Punch
Some may denigrate my suggestions, but I smoke these on a regular basis and have few burn issues and I like them. I don't walk much, but I do sit in the breezes of my porch.

Hope this helps.

For something like this I would actually recommend 50 ring gauge and up. A corona, petite corona or lancero won't stay lit as well.

yah 50 rg...Camachos, La Aurora, Perdomo, AJ Fernandez New World, San Lotano, EP Carillo, Kristoff are among my regular walking cigars...robustos and toros...

Congrats on the weight loss and good luck keeping it off. I try to get an hour walk in everyday and usually have a cigar while I'm walking. I don't power walk, though. I go at a 3 mph pace...not losing weight, but not gaining either.

My normal pace is a slow stroll. Occasionally I kick it up to a medium saunter.

I walk at about 4 mph and usually do 2-3 miles now that my knee won't allow any running anymore. Personally, I can't imagine smoking a cigar and enjoying it at anything faster than a stroll.

I did once won a bet by smoking a CAO Brazilia while doing a 5 mile training run with a friend but it sure was not enjoyable.

I hear the Cigar Smoking Power Walk is going to be a sanctioned event in the 2020 Summer OlympicsAnxious
It's a 10 mile walk and you must smoke two CAO Brazilia Amazons to the nubBombed

Partagas Black Label: strong, smooth cigar. I am not good at descriptions, but I think it compares favorably with a standard variety Fuente or Padron.

The small PBL (pronto) is the only small cigar I've had that smoked like a full size.

Keep in mind that, at my more "seasoned" age, a "power walk" ain't what a 20 year old would do. That being said I do get a good workout and still enjoy a cigar along the way that I don't have to mess with or worry about if neglected on the uphill push or pufffed on heavily in a strong breeze! That's why I like that RP Cameroon 2003 since the thing just burns perfect without me needing to do anything. Some good suggestions in this thread as well that I intend to try. That Partagas Black sounds interesting and I already enjoy several Punch's that will see if they stand up to a walk. (except for the Bareknuckle. Worst web-hyped cigar, other than a Gurkha, I have ever had).

For nice strolls I will enjoy something that might need more attention or care and something I will savor while enjoying the scenery and would not need to be as strong to enjoy.

Headed to a nearby, low-end, B&M to overpay for a Partagas Black that drnos suggested above to give it a try.

The only size they had was a 60 ringer. That is larger than I usually smoke and really to big for my power-walk. But picked it up anyway and took it on a nice long normal walk.

The first thing I noticed was that the cigar was very squishy. Not tightly packed at all. Lit easily but burned uneven almost from the start. Touching up failed to solve the burn. About an inch in, I could see the reason for the burn. There was a tubular void in the cigar on one side of the filler near the binder. It was like the tobacco there had been wrapped around a thin straw that was then removed. No way it was going to burn properly with that.

But, my the flavor! Strong, rich, toasty. Also right from the start, a salty-spicey taste that overlayed the strength underneath. Senior Nicc really came through as well. Not an empty-stomach smoke.

Have ordered a few from a certain web-page in smaller ring sizes that, hopefully, won't have the rolling flaw this one had and will be better for walking.

I have an hour long ride home and two of my favorite cigars for the ride are 1) foundry Chillin Moose 6 x60 2) Schizo Maduro 6 x 60 for a cheap cigar they burn well for me 95 percent of the time and both have flavor that I enjoy.

For a walk what about something like a Montesino or Baccarat? if you like milder smokes.

For fuller bodied you could go with La Finca or Punch. Good cigars with prices that are low enough
