Herfing I am smoking my first Lancero. It’s a Rocky Patel Sungrown Maduro, so definitely excellent. I must say, kind of a funky looking Vitola.

The lancero is a great vitolo IMHO. Totally dig them. Lanceros fall under the Panatela category, but sizes will vary so ignore GNF. The wombat also hates lanceros.

If you like the Rocky, try his Super Ligero in lancero.

Lancero's can easily be the best representation of a blend, and are often more flavorful than the larger ring-guage ilk. That's not 100% across the board mind you, but I've had several that were definitely the best of the line. Some standouts that you should really try:

Olivia V Lancero
Olivia Cain F Lancero (muuuuuch beter than the other vitolas to me)
Illusion Holy Lance (prefer the Candela version of this, it's basically the only candela cigar I whole-heartily recommend. Illusione's one of the few brands that gets Candela right anyway, so try their others, just don't expect the ALec Bradleys and RP's of the world to get a candela to taste good)
Tat Black/Brown Lancero

Probably not thinking of a bunch of others (and didn't even mention Cubans) but that list is a good starting point.

Works the other way as well, a small ring gauge can be the WORST in the line! A cigar that you think is, OK, not bad, in a big ring might make you reaching for the mouthwash in a lancero!

Some of the long skinnies are also referred to as "lonsdales"...

Other great cigars in that vitola: My Father lancero, Jaime Garcia lancero, L'Atelier Extension de la Racine 2015 lonsdale, Trinidad Fundadore (CC), 601 La Bomba Warhead, old Camacho Corojo Maduro lonsdale, original Cuenca y Blanco lonsdale

think Clint Eastwood favored the lanceros in his western roles...

Delta, I think he was smoking backwoods.

But maybe Parodi or Tuscani(Toscano Garibaldi ?) in those Italian movies. I looked briefly and could not spot what he was smoking in a search. They did make some Clint Eastwood cigars around the middle of the first decade of this century.

One of the best examples of what the Lancero brings out in blends is the Tatuaje Miami Especiales.I totally dig the Miami's but the Especiale is absolutely one of the best sticks currently available anywhere.Aged a couple years nothing else compares in my opinion.

i wanta like small ring gauge( corona and lancero), lays in your hand nicer LOL.. but I have tried a few , and just didnt like them, they are supposedly better because you taste more of the wrapper...everyone is different, but i prefer a robusto, seems less intense then a corona...thats just me

I never got the "taste more of the wrapper" explanation. The bigger the cigar, the more wrapper is required- so why ? It seems to me that square or box pressed cigars would have more wrapper than round cigars.

Try the LFD Cameroon in a lancero. You surely won’t regret it.

Many opinions here on Lanceros. To each their own. I personally love the one I tried. I will continue to enjoy them. After all, I have an entire box of them to work through.

Tony the reason why is that there's less filler.

Yeah, filler to wrapper ratio. I really enjoy the lonsdale and corona sizes. Not sure if it has to do with tasting more wrapper though...Think

Considering that the wrapper is only half a millimeter or less thick...

And yet people have said that it is responsible for 40-50% of the flavor in a cigar...interesting. I'm not sure if I could put a percent on it, but it does account for much of the flavor.

And less circumference making for less wrapper.

They break it down pretty well in this article.

Ding Ding Ding...

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

I had asked why does alcohol age faster in a small barrel vs large. It works on the same principle dealing with exactly that "ratio"

Read it twice. Too much math for me. Nonetheless, I still prefer smaller RG smokes.

Agreed. It's close for me between the lancero and the corona

Pantela is shorter than a lancero, lonsdale is thiccc-er than a lancero and generally a touch shorter.

The skinny monsters are a great one to enjoy also.

I don't know if it's because there are more choices but I've been buying more Lonsdale smokes and think they may have surpassed Lanceros as my #2 favorite small RG smoke.

The nice thing about lonsdales is you’re going to run into less draw issues generally speaking.
