Never been a AB fan but was gifted a couple of these and pleasantly surprised. Yeah on version of this got a #5 Cigar of the year from CA in 2017 but we all know how those things go, especially after the initial release and we start seeing them discounted

Spicy, peppery -especially at first - but not overpowering. Slowly transitions to other flavors with the spice popping back in now and then. Good construction and burn on the ones I had (burn on this is something I have seen criticized in reviews).

Seems that they go for around $3 per or a bit less here on Cbid which is well worth it. These also appearssoften as part of a combo pack deal on the Mothership. If you had your eye on one of those deals for a favorite cigar but didn't know if it was worth having the AB Tempus along with it, I would suggest giving it a try.

Uneven burn was the factor that turned me off to them a few years ago...I may have one or two left ...may pick up a fiver to give them a try again...

+1

In regards to the Tempus, I like the Tempus Nicaragua better than the regular one that received the 94.

not impressed with a lot of AB's offerings, like Filthy Hooligan, Black Market, Sun Grown, Maxx...I did like the Prensado, though

Had the last gifted one of there at lunch. Slight burn issue at start but was outside in a breeze, so have to give it some slack.

Not the #5 cigar in the world last year by any means, but worth the price you can get them on here and on CI deals IMO

haven't cared for the brand since Medalist...was that the name? Used to like them when ever they were around, maybe 10/12 years or so.

My neighbor gifted me a Prensado, today. I wasted no time firing it up. I must say...........a very nice smoke. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Most have been inconsistent in my experience. However based on my preference for small ring gauges and Z's glowing recommendation,I just ordered a box of the Coyol petite lancero.Found a great deal........79.99,plus a 6 stick AB sampler and free shipping........and if I don't like them I know someone who does.

I've had the robusto. Lancero is better in my opinion, but it could just be my preference for smaller ring gauge smokes...

Edit: If you would like to try before you buy, I have a lancero that I will send you.

I remember what a joke it was when the AB Prensado was named the Cigar of the year a few years ago.

We all thought those cigars had fire-proof wrappers because you couldn't keep one lit!

Yeah Alec Bradley cigars are terrible these days, nothing but that cheap tobacco taste in every puff. There Fine and Rare is ok but not much else.

Inconsistency is an issue for a lot of the manufacturers these days. Cbid and CI have special deals with AJ so you see a lot of his cigars around here. I like most of AJ's offerings and his blending "taste" in general, but I just know there are going to be times where a particular "stick" ( and I will use that controversial term here on-purpose) is a stinker.

Great constancy is one of the things I like about the OMB3, Pepin Blues, all Aging Rooms, RP Sun Grown Maduros, LGC Series R and of course Padrons and AFs. Never had a a poorly made or "off taste" one of any of those. Most of those cigars are, of course, generally a lot more expensive than the ones talking about in this thread (Except for The OMB3 on the super-duper-every-now-and-then deal, which is why that deal is so great).

Now a days if you get around a $3 price point, you seem -with most brands- to have to live with inconstancy ranging from he occasional clunker to the whole order being a crap-shoot. Perhaps got lucky with the gifted AB Tempests . All tasted very nice -very close to as described in the glowing 90+ reviews - and only one had a burn issue and that was outside in a strong breeze.

So while I won't be surfing the web to seek them out, if I see a good deal that sends a few my way for $3 a smoke, I would not hesitate to pull the trigger even though from several reviews and the posts here that others have had issues at times with them.

Now to high-jack my own thread, what is YOUR most consistent inexpensive to moderately-priced cigar? You know, ones that you are likely to find a deal on that you never worry about ordering because you can count on them?

Other than ones you named, Melanio, and the regular Oliva V (I know it's not at the $3 point, but you can get them relatively cheap).

I do currently have a box of sub-par Pepin Blues though... glad they are coronas. Been using them as yard gars :/ (first time I got a box of the bummer blues.. and I've burned through my share of them).

Oliva Cain F 5.75x50 sealed boxes of 24 for $64.99 ($2.71/stick) with free shipping and a free bright red Cain F baseball hat. This deal appears occasionally at the "MB3 place". Yes, that place, you know where I'm talking about.

Only thing that can arguably match or beat it is that great MB3 deal they do (sampler of 20, 5 each of 4 sizes, for $59.99 with free shipping ($3/stick), no free hat though).

Both occur occasionally, gotta keep an eye out for them and stock up when they're in effect.

Only ignorant suckers buy those Cain boxes at $145 each and the MB3 boxes at $200+ each.

For years, its been F****s Nic 3K, but last couple bundles seem to have fallen off a little. Still like Oliva CT for breakfast every now and again.

Anything Drew Estates. About a year ago some other place had a bunch of UC and UC Shade 2nds. I grabbed several bundles. They even had a limited number of T-52, LP-9 and Flying Pig 2nds, but I missed out on them. Except for a few slight discolorations on the wrappers, they burned, drew and tasted just like the 1sts. Many a time I would look at one before lighting, and had no clue why it had been pulled aside as a 2nd. That says a lot about their standards for 1sts.

Anytime there is a special or undervalued auction on UC, Nica Rustica, Herrea Estella, etc., I will grab them with no worries. Many a time I have been lucky enough to find these DE mid-lines for as little as $2 ea.

If you like connie wrappers, the best value in the world right now is the Olde Penn by Drew Estates. It may be someone else's exclusive, but it's Drew Estate quality through and through. I've gone through almost two boxes and haven't had a bad one yet.

Another line of cigars that I've found consistent is 601s. During my exile, I could grab 10 pack samplers for $12 to $20 at will. In those 4 years I probably smoked 500 or more. Rarely did I ever find a bad one. Sadly those sampler deals are no longer available. Looks like the best you can hope for on these is $3 to $4 ea. At that price I'm going after $3 Pepin Blues and Blacks instead.

A couple lines I really missed while away where MOWs (Ruination, Little Devils, Legends) and Diesels. Since I've been back I've been smoking through these like crazy. So far I've found them very consistent, especially since if you bid wisely, you can grab them for well under $2. I've actually won 5 packs here for as little as $6.

Can't forget La Aurora. I can't remember ever having a bad one of them.

With me, Oliva's lower priced stuff is hit or miss. I've shyed away from all Oliva "exclusives" as they are usually rolled way too tight and have poor draws. Since I've been back, I have tried the Os, Gs, CT and Saison. Every O and CT has been very good and consistent. The Gs where harsh, under filled and hot. The '09 Saisons have been great, but the '11 Saisons have been considerably inconsistent. The problem is you don't know if you are getting the '09 or the '11 until they arrive at your door, so I'm now laying off biding on any more.

They seem to be on sale today for $2.91 per. No hat but free lighter! Think that is worth pulling the trigger on?

I'd do it. No hat but you're getting a Jetline double torch. Jetline is a pretty highly-regarded lighter brand, and a double torch is IMO the best configuration for a cigar lighter.*

For reference, usual price is $6.05 per stick, so anything under $3 with free shipping and a decent freebie (hat, lighter, whatever) is definitely a "do it", IMO.

* = For initial lighting, IMO singles take too long and don't have enough power and surface area, but triples and quads have excessive power and the excess heat can easily go up the side and scorch the final inch of the wrapper, which is very bad. For touching up a wavy burn line, triples and quads run a very high risk of scorching the hell out of your wrapper, and singles, while they're very precise, take awhile. With a double, you can turn the axis of the jets 90 degrees opposed to the axis of the cigar, then slowly rotate that wavy burn line past the jets. Relative to the rotating burn line, it's the width of only one jet for great precision, and yet the power of two jets, one slightly behind the other, each working on a slightly different area of the wavy burn line, which means despite getting the same precision as a single jet, you'll finish correcting that burn line a lot faster too. Double jets are best all around IMO.
