Yesterday Sarah Sanders Huckabee was asked to leave a restaurant because she works for president Trump. Discrimination is unacceptable in any form. It certainly is as unacceptable as not baking a cake for a gay couple. ACLU, hello, only an echo, no response.

I'm fine with it.

Businesses should have the right of free association, and the social repercussions that come with it.

It's called freedom.

Just like the cake maker not wanting to bake a cake for a couple gay guys, I have no problem with a restaurant kicking someone out because they don't like Trump.

I also think it's perfectly acceptable for people to not go to either of those places because they are petty.

Personally, if I was in the business of making cakes, and 2 guys asked me to make them a cake, I would ask them how big of a d1ck they wanted on top...

Why? Because they have money to buy cakes... and I sell cakes, therefore, SOLD!

Anyway...

I agree with Z.

If a restaurant wants to alienate 50% of their customer base, so be it. If a restaurant owner hated me, I'd rather he/she ask me to leave, then to take out their hatred in my food.

First of all, the baker didn't refuse to sell a cake.
They refused to make a special cake for their wedding.
The gay couple could have purchased anything else at the bakery.

As for Sarah?
Where was this place of business? If it's in a liberal area then it won't hurt their business at all. If this happened in Boston the place would be jam packed the next day and awards would be given with the D mayor and pseudo-R governor there in attendance.

That's why there are laws against discrimination.

If Huckabee wanted the restaurant to write "MAGA" on her eggs benedict with the hollandaise sauce, then they should have the right to refuse.
But to refuse outright because of her politics?

The left still doesn't get it. These type of actions may play to the base, but every time a prog meltdown makes national news, more independents move to the right. I hope to see a growing number of these temper tantrums all the way through November. Also I want to hear more from Pelosi, Schumer, Warren and the Hollywierd elite. Every time they speak, Dems lose votes. Of course this time the loses will be blamed on Republicans colluding with North Korea.

Anti-Trump restaurant owner who booted Sarah Huckabee Sanders cites 'morals,' says she'd do it again

Not only does the owner of the Red Hen restaurant have no regrets about kicking out Sarah Huckabee Sanders, she insisted Saturday she would do it all over again, saying people need to “uphold their morals.”

Stephanie Wilkinson, owner of the 26-seat eatery in Lexington, Virginia, said she asked the White House press secretary to scoot after receiving a call from her chef at about 8 p.m. Friday alerting her to Ms. Sanders’ presence, then conferring with her staff.

“I would have done the same thing again,” Ms. Wilkinson told the Washington Post. “We just felt there are moments in time when people need to live their convictions. This appeared to be one.”

Ms. Wilkinson cited the press secretary’s work for the “inhumane and unethical” Trump administration.

“I’m not a huge fan of confrontation,” Ms. Wilkinson said. “I have a business, and I want the business to thrive. This feels like the moment in our democracy when people have to make uncomfortable actions and decisions to uphold their morals.”

After a flurry of news reports based on a waiter’s account on Facebook, Ms. Sanders confirmed Saturday that she agreed to leave after being confronted by the owner, adding that, “Her actions say far more about her than about me.”

Ms. Sanders’ party of eight had already been served cheese boards when Ms. Wilkinson said she asked to speak to the press secretary outside on the patio.

“I was babbling a little, but I got my point across in a polite and direct fashion,” said Ms. Wilkinson. “I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and cooperation.

“I said, ‘I’d like to ask you to leave,’” and Ms. Sanders didn’t hesitate, replying, “That’s fine. I’ll go,” according to Ms. Wilkinson.

The other guests at Ms. Sanders’ table offered to pay for the food items already served but Ms. Wilkinson said she told them it was “on the house.”

The incident comes a few days after Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was heckled and booed at a Mexican restaurant by other patrons, while White House senior adviser Stephen Miller was reportedly called a “fascist” by another diner at a cantina in Washington, D.C.

Moral issue? So, the restaurant owner's way to fight perceived intolerance is to practice actual intolerance. Wow, you just have to marvel at the hypocrisy of some folk.

My issue with this is the lack of consistency. If you are a member of certain groups then of course your rights have been violated. On the other hand I you are a member of other groups of people then of course your rights haven't been violated. I don't like president Trumps politics, as I have stated multiple times. But it angers me that conservatives/republicans are portrayed as the enemy. I thought this is a classic example of that. It seems to me that many people have forgotten that we are all Americans. I don't like what Sarah Sanders Huckabee does, but you know what? If I saw her somewhere I would thank her for the job she does. If I was at a restaurant and saw her I would pull out her chair and push it in for her. That was how I was raised. It truely saddens me that I know there are many who would spit in her face. We talk about common decency to illegal alien children. How about common decency toward our fellow American?

If you can't tell the difference between "discrimination" due to a person doing or saying something stupid, and "discrimination" due to being born a different race, sexuality... Then maybe you shouldn't be having adult discussions.

Hell, people are even given a pass on their religion in civil rights protections... Something I don't think belongs, since it's a choice they make.

Interesting that you would find any form of discrimination acceptable. As far as adult conversations I was unaware that you are an expert on this subject. It seems to me what you are saying is actually your opinion. Here are the facts as I see them. Please feel free to refute them.

1) The gay couples rights were discriminated on by the baker who refused to bake their wedding cake.
2) Sarah Sanders Huckabee rights were discriminated on by the restaurant owner who refused to serve her.

It's tricky.
The baker felt his religious right was being violated.
The gay couple felt that their right to shop wherever was violated.

Who's wrong?

So maybe my point has not been clear. Tail comes from the right, Victor from the left, not really suprising. And Huck asks a fair question.

Consider this, hate knows no boundaries. Discrimination is a form is hate. So much hate is flowing in our country. It is disheartening. Perhaps on an individual basis we need to say I will not hate. So to stop rambling and be susinct. My point is this. We are Americans, we are ALL better than this.

no one stopped anyone from shopping anywhere... the gay couple just didn't want to buy any of the cakes the baker had for sale....the baker had lots of other items for sale, just not the cake they wanted... there was another baker right down the road that may have had what they were looking for...

What if a KKK/skinhead group wanted a cake with Hitler and anti sematic messages on it to celebrate Passover? Would the baker be required to make it?

No. That's not tricky, right? Didn't the gay couple want the shop to make them a wedding cake?

You do see how that's pretty innocuous, right?
And the the baker's convictions? He has every right to refuse.

A Passover antisemitic cake?
Yeah, I think most bakers would refuse to bake that thing.
And undoubtedly some that would bake it for free.

Kosher?

Rick, you mention all hateful things. How would a gay couples wedding cake be hateful? Please don't hide behind personal beliefs. That simply confuses the issue. Your statements lack consistency. A gay wedding cake may be against your personal beliefs, but it does not equate to the hateful examples you offered.

Spey... You cant conflate discrimination with hate.

I'm allowed to hate people for being dumb. If someone says something so dumb that it makes the entire 10mile radius around them dumber, I'm allowed to hate them. Or in the case of cbid, I'd be allowed to agree with them. Hate, dismissiveness, disregard, anger are all acceptable reactions to someones action or words (as are supportive ones)

I'm even allowed to hate someone for being different. We can see that clearly that there are lots of people who hate someone for being different. And guess what, you're allowed to hate them for that hatred... Or dismiss them, or disregard them, or go March with them holding tiki torches.

What is not allowed is discriminating against an entire group based on gender or race or sexuality... (Still allowed to hate them)...(and lying to the American public on a daily basis is not a gender ... It may be a sexual orientation depending on how turned on it made her)

For what it's worth, my first comment was in regard to tail... Who always wants to pretend righty is being discriminated against....

To be fair... I'm not sure the supreme Court was wrong in the case of the cake. It would likely depend on how much input they were asking the cake Baker to put in...

If they wanted him to craft two detailed grooms... I'd likely side with him. If they were just asking him to put "steven and Frank" on the cake, then he's a d!ck

Victor, I follow your point. But I am uncomfortable with a public business being able to discriminate against individuals for any reason. I would also present the counter point that if sexual orientation creates categories of people then there are also political categories of people. I do understand that this viewpoint has no legal bearing and is simply my point of view. If a buisiness can be taken to task by the public for discriminatory practices against gay people then I would argue that a buisiness should be taken to task for every discriminatory practice by the public.

Your correct, the analogy's are poor examples....I was going towards the having to do things against your beliefs, and the nanny state we have in this country....I don't think we need to go to court to get a cake made, when shop "A" says they don't want to make the cake, just go to shop "B", as simple as that...if Wedding band "a" doesn't want to play, just get band "b"....simple, no need for the million dollar court case over a cake...

I apologize if I appeared to be making it hateful(I really wasn't)...I have no issues with gay marriage...I just don't see why it's an issue if a business declines to participate...just take your money elsewhere and don't shop there again...

Here's a better example... What if a gay couple wanted cigars with specially printed bands for their wedding?
If they go to Don Joe to get them made, but he didn't want to make them due to his beliefs.....why wouldn't you just go down the street to Don Schmo's and have them made....why would you need to go to court and drag it out for years?

I should have thought a little more about the examples I used...Again, I'm sorry if I made it seem like I was equating Gay Marriage with Hitler....my bad

Rick, no need for an apology. I was pointing out something inconsistent in your analogy.

Last night I ended up arguing that religious freedom should not extend to a public business, and political affiliation should not extend to a public business.

My original argument was if people are willing to be enraged that a gay couple was denied service by a bakery owner because of their sexual orientation then people should be enraged that a straight white woman was denied service from a restaurant owner because of her political affiliation.
