Well, In all fairness the winning bidder is from Honolulu. Most of their time is spent doing research on where they can get Spam the cheapest so they do not have much time to research anything else. Anxious Yeah thats my story so I am sticking to it!

Won a dozen of the Colibri Uber compact table top lighters here for as little as $5. Great triple flame that lights a bunch of cigars on one tank. I think I'm now set for lighters for life. At the time the Mother Ship wanted $50 and Free Fall was resetting at $35.

Wow, $19.38 - 20% using a promo code = $15.50, including the lifetime warranty that covers everything except loss or theft. And, it's not one of their low-end models at all, it's solid metal and quite refined, built-in 7mm punch and large, wide, red-tinted fuel window, a very nice model indeed. So, crazy cheap.

Whenever a Xikar fails, it magically transforms into a brand-new one in about 60 seconds and for free, just by visiting your local authorized Xikar dealer.

Once you buy a Xikar, you have to buy zero more zero times a year.

Quote:

I have never paid more than $0.00 for a replacement Xikar.

Sure, the Ronsons are cheaper up-front, but over time they become more expensive, then much more expensive, then MUCH more expensive, etc.

What's your time worth going through the hassle of sending/taking it back?

If you have nothing better to do, then I can see your point... but I hate taking sh1t back, PITA.

CAR-BASED COMPARISON:

1. Get in your car.
2. Drive to retailer.
3. Do quick, zero-hassle Ronson purchase, lose $3.49.
4. Drive home.

...OR...

1. Get in your car.
2. Drive to retailer.
3. Do quick, zero-hassle Xikar swap, lose nothing.
4. Drive home.

MAIL-BASED COMPARISON:

1. Order a Ronson shipped to your doorstep
2. Lose a small amount of money.
3. Wait awhile.

...OR...

1. Ship your Xikar back for replacement.
2. Lose a smaller amount of money ($3 for one-way postage).
3. Wait awhile.

Conclusion: similar time/effort/hassle either way, but Xikar remains cheaper in all cases.

Well, I have a dead xikar triple flame. Maybe next time I hit a shpo I'll see if they'll give me a new one.

The thing has always been a POS, I have $5 / free promo lighters that have been far more reliable.

Someone gave it to me though... so I didn't pay anything for it.

Take it from a guy with a schitt-load of Xikars: they DO have duds. You WILL occasionally get a crappy one. But you just drive it to an authorized dealer, and walk out with a new one. You don't need a receipt, proof-of-purchase, ID, or anything. And, if the replacement dies, just do it again.

So yeah, take that dead triple to the shop! Assuming they're not being cranky and refusing to participate in Xikar's retailer-swap program, you should walk out minutes later with a smile on your face.

Keep in mind though, that there are lighters/cutters that CI (and maybe others) sell that are labelled "[whatever] by Xikar" that are NOT Xikar mainline models, do not say "Xikar" anywhere on the bodies, and are reportedly NOT covered by the lifetime warranty. An example is the "X4 by Xikar" cutter, which appears nowhere on the xikar.com site and which a CI rep confirmed to me is NOT warranted. They also have boxy-looking, side-squeeze "by Xikar" lighters (often cheap and with some cigar company logo on them) that don't appear on xikar.com and probably aren't covered either. The rule seems to be that if the item says "Xikar" right on its case and is, or used to be (before being discontinued), listed on the xikar.com company website, then it's an actual, mainline, "real" Xikar model and is covered, but the gray-area "by Xikar" stuff with no Xikar label on the case and that has never been listed on the xikar.com site, is not covered.

So, if I take my two Xi-8 cutters (the best dang cutters I've ever owned before they dulled) to a Xikar retailer they'll hand me two new ones? If so, the next time I'm at the Reading outlets, I'm heading for the Hamburg superstore and exchanging them. Maybe I'd better call first.

things may have changed since xikar was purchased recently.
I used to send my cutter with a stamped return address envelope and they'd either sharpen or replace...and then my local shpo told me just exchange with him.
Same with a lighter I had, not a great one, soft flame so much better for pipes.

I've never heard of an Xi-8, but maybe you mean the X8, M8 or maybe X875, or something else. However (from my best current understanding anyway) if it's a "real", mainline Xikar product that is, or was in the past, shown on their xikar.com website, and if it actually says Xikar somewhere on the item's body, yes you can either mail it to them and they'll send you a free brand-new one (all you pay is the postage to them, they pay the postage back to you), or you can go into any authorized Xikar dealer and they'll simply hand you a free new one. No proof-of-purchase or other documentation needed: you giving them the item itself is all that's needed.

Read my note above about the non-"real", non-mainline, "[whatever] BY Xikar" items that, I'm told, are not covered, such as the "X4 by Xikar" cutter and certain "by Xikar" lighters. None of them have Xikar anywhere on the unit itself, and none of those models has appeared on the xikar.com webpage (as far as I know). So beware, from all I've heard, there are products marketed as "by Xikar" that are not covered, but these seem to be few in number.

There are reports of some authorized dealers being grumpy or stingy and telling you "we don't do that, mail it to Xikar", but they're not supposed to do that, so I suspect few do.

By the way, EVERYTHING aside from loss or theft is covered, and will result in a replacement with a free new item. This explicitly INCLUDES things like dulled blades and even things like damage inflicted by you (accidents, etc.) and, if you want to be a perfectionist, even just wear to the finish even when the thing still works perfectly. Very impressive.

I can also confirm that it's not just one free replacement per unit, but as many as you need, forever. I have a Stratosphere and an Enigma that are each the third of their kind. In both cases, the first one broke, got another, that one broke, got another. (This is over the course of years and heavy use though). Makes sense as they require no documentation for a replacement, so how would they even KNOW how many you'd had before?, but I'm just confirming it for you guys.

All CI brick-and-mortar locations should be good to go with the instant over-the-counter replacements. I've done it in both the Allentown and Hamburg superstores several times.

Do it! It's the single greatest benefit of Xikar ownership!

As for the warranty changing with Xikar's buyout by Quality Importers, from all I've heard, nothing will change and the lifetime warranty will stay. Quality Importers supposedly realizes that much, if not most, of the value of the Xikar brand IS the lifetime warranty, and supposedly they want to make Xikar their "Cadillac" brand, with all their other lines below it, so it will, they claim anyway, continue to carry the lifetime warranty as before.

^When I won them here 5 - 6 years ago, they where called the Xi-8. Looks like the current version is the X-8. The only markings on them is "Xikar" printed on the blades so they should be good to go. As I said before, the best cutters I've ever owned until they dulled. Far sharper then Palio and lasted 3 to 4 times longer before dulling.

It's good to hear you had success at the CI brick and motars. I tried to do a Palio exchange at the Hamburg store a couple years ago, but at the time they said they where no longer a Palio dealer.

I recently started a thread about Palio, and it ended with Quality Importers providing super fast replacement.

I "sorta" side with whislebritches on this one...

But , I'd say RONSON has at least a 50% failure rate after
6 months, SOMETIMES 75% FAIL..and no windows to check the fuel levels..,

Many can N.E.V.E.R. RECHARGE no matter how hard you try...I've had over 20-30 ronsons ....only 5-8 still work and reload easily...

Screw XIKAR...some cheap ones are ok, the expensive ones???

THE BEST LIGHTER IF ALL TIME!!!

THE HANDS DOWN WINNER!!

IS THE MORETTI 4 FLAME LIGHTER WITH A FOLDING PUNCH ON THE BOTTOM, it is ugly as all get out but who cares?...GREAT SEE THRU TANK LEVEL...
THEY DO EAT FUEL THOUGH...BUT WHO THE F*K cares???
They never E.V.E.R. BREAK...
NEVER!!

I HAVE 6-8 OF THEM , Paid $3-$8 for most of them..,

Only one I know went bad was one I gave away brand new to an old guy at the legion....but I got him 3 other ones and they all still work...they take any fuel but not
The cheap ronsons in grade FUEL CRAP from wally WORLD...
Gotta be 3-6 times refined.

Another very very good lighter is the basic blACK
ONE FLAME ROCKWELL...THEY WORK FOR 3-6 YEARS AT LEAST...HAS A SMALL GLASS TUBE TO SEE THE LEVEL BUT THE DAMN BOTTOM +/- ADJUSTMENT WHEEL ALWAYS FALLS OFF AFTER 2 YEARS...

I must agree that the new replacement Palio is not as good as the one Mikey sent me several years ago, but it has been better than decent so far.

Great deal for him. He gets six immortal lighters and can simply walk into a Xikar dealer and instantly turn them into six brand-new ones, and keep doing this as needed forever.... although it's rarely needed, in my extensive experience with large numbers of them over the years.

Yes, like any manufacturer there are a small percentage of "duds", but you just insta-swap them and you're good, and otherwise they work reliably for years between each replacement.

Not a bad deal for six cigars you burn once and they're gone forever!

I don't get people who say "Xikar is junk, I have a bunch of dead ones". Turn them into live ones, for heaven's sake!

For people who claim ALL their Xikars break ALL the time and the sheer frequency of doing constant replacements is a giant hassle, I have to wonder exactly what they're DOING with them.... using them instead of golf balls on the driving range? Using them instead of potatoes in the deep-fryer? Very odd.

I smoked one yesterday it was good but not worth $11 (b&m not a fake Internet cigar). It tasted like the wrapper was Ecuidorian Connecticut not Ecuadorian Habano.

Though his post is a little confusing, I think Jamie was talking about a Room 101 cigar. I don't know which one he paid $11 for when they can be gotten all over the interwebs for pennies on the dollar.

Well the world is fully of people who have to have something, but do not research what they are buying. We have auto dealers who sell consumer "their Specal add on package" for big bucks. Because the consumer bought the hype, and did not research the actual cost of the items they could buy after market.

Pain protection, interior protection, door edge guards, window tint. How about $1,500.00 for about what you could byuy for less.

Tint is about $85.00 - $100.00 locally.

Door edge guard kit $15.00 - $25.00

Interior protection. Me I use to buy two can of scotch guard atone $10.00

Pain Protection, how about some work, sweat, and a good Wax at maybe $15.00

Buyer beware, and do your homework.
