Ok, gun enthusiasts, here’s one for the record books, Weatherby has taken their best selling all around caliber, the 300 Weatherby, and nicked it down to hold a 6.5 mm round on the front. This will definitely be a game changer. Currently the two fastest bullets in the world are the 300 magnum and the 7mm magnum. This bullet is set to blow them both out of the water with a possible 3700 FPS barrel velocity, this could very well be the fastest bullet in the world.

Weatherby makes some fine rifles and cartridges however this new cartridge will not be the fastest. The new round would need to top the .220 Swift velocity of 4,000+ FPS to become the fastest factory cartridge. it may well be the fastest 6.5MM cartridge beating out the 6.5 Creedmore, the cartridge de jour of gun world.

They have some rifles with reasonable pricing and they have their Vanguard line of less expensive excellent rifles.

OH Dear Lord.........another entry into the 6.5 worship arena.I'm not impressed.Creedmoor fans annoy the hell out of me.I love to toss this at them.......inside reasonable hunting range my 308 rules.Watching their heads spin in circles always humors me.

Oh yea Weatherby's........mehhhhhh

And then there are the Weatherby haters. Sarcasm

.308? Why not the 30-06, .270 or even the 7x57 Mauser? I have to agree, that is why I said the 6.5 CM is the cartridge de jour. It's not a bad cartridge but it's part of the tradition firearms cartridge cycle. Magnums, classic cartridges, short magnums, belted and unbelted, wildcats, military use, efficient cartridges and on and on... OTOH, how else are you going to justify the "need" for another firearm?

Anyway, I owned a 300 Weatherby for years, the barrel finally went out, so it’s time for a new one. I am tossing around getting a Mark V, the 300 is about 1300, and the 6.5-300 is only 500 more. Thus I am tossing around the idea of which one I would rather get.

Barrel life of less than 2000 rounds............usually significantly less. Not something I'm interested in.

The 257 Roberts is a great round and well suited for a short barreled youth gun.I'm a 25-06 enthusiast..........graduate of the Men's Club.

They burn out the rifling in front of the chamber. The more powder in a cartridge the sooner they get shot out.

My Great Uncle had a 264 Win Mag specially smithed with a 32 inch target barrel that he had a friend build. My cousin owns it now, it is a Sako. The barrel isn’t steel, some sort of chrome alloy, it has had well over 4,000 rounds put through it, still has excellent riflings. He brings it by to sight it in before Elk Season each year. I have a 500 yard Range up on top of my hill.

I mostly plink with my rifles, but I do enjoy going after elk up in the Cascade range every 4-5 years.

The 243 is an awesome round, possibly one of the least hyped up rounds on the market, but exceptional for accuracy and power

Hard to beat a 30.06 if killing something in a cost effective and efficient manner a 300yd +/- is the goal.

30.06 is an ancient round. Springfield has been making it for years and years....... I like a Weatherby, but I love an old Springfield.

The snipers in Iraq were using 300 win mag... and killing mofo's at 850 yds.

If killing large animals at distance was my goal... I'd get one of those. But I rather fish than hunt.
