.
There are a bunch of auctions for Diesel stuff with "S.E." in the title. Is this Second Edition, or something?

Examples:

https://www.cigarbid.com...ss-s-e-robusto/2943432/
https://www.cigarbid.com...double-robusto/2947359/
https://www.cigarbid.com...m-s-e-belicoso/2947845/

If it's "Second Edition" I'm wary, because usually second editions is where the blend gets dumbed down with lower-grade tobacco...

I noticed with the Diesel Heart Of Darkness, the only original-release size (6.0x58) that everyone reviewed a couple of years ago (because it was the ONLY size that existed!) is NOT marked "S.E.", whereas the other, presumably newer sizes (4.9x52 and 5.5x54) ARE marked "S.E.". Given that, I suspect "S.E." does indeed mean "Second Edition".

Or maybe "Special Edition"? If so, what exactly does that mean?

Or, does "S.E." indicate one of those blends that was released in small numbers in a big hurry to beat that August 8 FDA deadline for new blends a year or two ago?

Anyone know what "S.E." actually means?

What is the Aug. 8 FDA BLEND DEADLINE YOU SPEAK OF?

WTF? IS THE FDA GETTING INVOLVED WITH NOW?

Plants and blends change all the time...
How the hell can the FDA TRACK CIGAR BLENDS?

DIESELS have been my favorite new cigar lately.
Found many good ones on here.

Any cigar released to the public before that date could be sold for several more years without having to apply for FDA approval and/or "substantial equivalence" to an existing grandfathered blend. Those filings would be a nightmare, and there isn't even any established process for doing it!

So, manufacturers rushed a bunch of new blends that were in the development pipeline onto a few retailers' shelves in small numbers, just to be able to say they were available for retail sale to the public before that deadline date.... even if it was just a few boxes at one or two retailers. Technically, it satisfied the letter of the law.

The ones I grabbed a year ago before the deadline were labeled "G.S.E" whatever that stood for. The CAO Pilon GSE's were a totally different blend that popped up on cbid for I think for just one evening - not even up for bid most of the day. Very good actually, but quite different from the original.
