A buddy of mine from work suggested that I try taking some LADC’s and let them soak in high end spiced rum, this is new for me, and was wondering what the FOGS have to say on the subject.

Like Dan said..........no.

But if you must have a "rum infused" cigar of your making?

Get a small air tight container, or good zip lock Baggie.
Insert shot glass with an ounce of rum, and the cigar you want to ruin.........er.......infuse........no, don't put the cigar in the shot glass!
Seal up the bag.
Let it sit for a month or two.
Smoke it and tell us all about it.

I think you should do it and post pictures after as a warning to others.
Include a taste review of the cigar and taste the rum it soaked in...

Prolly should do this with a cheap cigar and cheap rum tho.

Ok, seeing as how you suggested infusion, I have a large stash of RP Short Runs that I picked up very cheaply. Perhaps I will take a few and try infusion with them. I have a bottle of Koloa Kauai Spiced rum that should be excellent for this experiment. I will write a review after they have sat for a few months.

WTF would you insult good rum by infusing those turds?

Tried it once years ago, just to see what would happen.

What happened was a swollen cigar covered in mold. Into the garbage it went.

Don't do it. It just wastes rum and a cigar.

Step 2: Smoke cigars and enjoy

Abrignac you should try them before calling them turds. They’re still in my top 10. Smooth and nutty.

I never knew there was a high end spiced rum! HA!

years ago I took some cheap coronas and put them in a baggie with ground coffee, put that in a humidor I was willing to toss, and smoked one evry month or so for a few months. Kind of worked, but was like smoking cheap cigars that had a cheap coffee essence.

best idea of all if you don't follow Phil222 #14 would be to smoke a good cigar and drink some good rum.

Best way to do this is just rub the cigar with rum and put in the microwave on the popcorn setting for about one minute.

Good luck.

I tried this when I was a noob. Put some cheap cigars in a mason jar along with some Bourbon in a shot glass. I vacuum sealed the mason jar with a Food Saver. Under vacuum, they infused rather quickly. Even though they tasted of Bourbon, it really didn't improve the cigars.

Question is... what happens if you do this with GREAT cigars?

Having a modest (ha!) collection of great cigars, I may have to try this. Just have to borrow my pal's FoodSaver machine....

Ok, I have been given my buddy’s method for soaking cigars, you may find this interesting. I definitely did. We just conducted a trade of an Añejo for a bottle of homemade blackberry wine, and he gave me one LADC that he had already soaked. So, he is a diabetic, he uses a very small gauge needle and inserts it into the tip of the cigar all the way to the end of the shaft. He then slowly pushes less than a quarter of a teaspoon of rum into the cigar as he pulls the needle out. Thus not over whetting it, but at least leaving the flavor in the cigar.

I must say, I am somewhat impressed by the flavor. You get a hint of spiced rum as you enjoy an excellent cigar.

Tell him to be careful and make sure he doesn't accidentally mix things up and shoot rum into his veins while creating an insulin-infused cigar!

The actual needle part of a diabetic syringe is only about a half an inch long....How does he manage to stretch it from the
"tip of the cigar all the way to the end of the shaft."? That must be some pretty fancy shootin'...Think

Well, they use special "male needles". Yes it's only a half-inch long, but if you rub it and show it photos of nude women, pretty soon it's a good 5-7 inches long.

Only do this if you want to destroy the cigars. Drink the rum and smoke the cigars. That is as close as they should ever get. Beginning, middle and end of discussion. fog Herfing

The length of the needle is referred to as the shaft, for all you clueless individuals, and diabetic needles can be as long as 2” in length. His are 1.5”

Not everyone has a set or works lying around. Although you can pick them up for a buck at the local grocery store. Some diabetic needles are shorter than 1.5" too.

But what a waste of rum. Alcohol Abuse outrage LOL! You dink the rum (in a Jack Sparrow voice)

If you have to infuse your cigars… buy better cigars.

I'm somewhat(very) familiar with Insulin syringes as my wife has been a diabetic for 50+ years, and uses a syringe 5-7 times a day....the length of the "Needle" or "needle shaft" varies from 1/8-1/2 inch long.....
https://www.ciamedical.com/insights/content/uploads/2016/02/insulin-syringes.jpg

https://www.diabeteshealth.com/choosing-a-needle-to-inject-insulin-whats-the-difference/

https://www.sharecare.com/health/insulin/what-size-insulin-syringe-buy

I don't think you could find an insulin syringe with a needle that is 1.5-2.0 inches long(even if you would want one)...the shorter the needle the less painful it is to use.....but even if you could find a 2.0 inch needle, it would not go from the tip of the cigar to the end of the shaft on any cigar I know of....even the shortest Oliva Nubs are 3.7 inches longThink

Roman, read the entire message mate, the needle itself has a shaft. That is the length of the needle, also, I spent a year in the nursing program, I know my needles and their lengths exceptionally well, some individuals request a longer needle, my younger brother is a type 1, he uses 1” needles, it is really up to the doctor that prescribes your needles, if you want longer ones, just ask.

which would not be used for a run of the mill insulin injection, correct?

...In just 25 years, we have gone from using 16-mm-long(about 5/8ths long) needles that were much thicker in diameter to 4- to 8-mm needles that are very thin (and practically pain-free). But do shorter needles work as well in people with more body fat? Yes, they do. Recent studies using ultrasound to measure skin thickness at four different sites on the body showed there is minimal variation in skin thickness regardless of a person’s age, gender, race, or body mass.

Most people have a skin thickness of less than 2.8 mm, which means that even shorter 4- or 5-mm needles will penetrate the skin and reach the subcutaneous tissue. If insulin is injected with a longer needle (over 8 mm), the chance of injecting into intramuscular tissue is greater. That causes more pain and variation in insulin uptake (and thus in blood glucose levels). The width, or gauge, of a needle has more to do with pain than does the length.

I was confused as well. I know nothing about diabetic needles but when I first read that my thought was that’s a long azz needle and he was inserting through the foot. Rereading it to me it sounds like he doesn’t shove just the needle into the cap of the cigar but also the plastic part that holds the needle to the base of the tube that holds the liquid. So only the first 1.5 to 2 inches of the cigar past the cap is “infused”

Of course you can soak some cigars in rum, ‘yac or whatever the **** you want to. Just don’t soak it too long until it gets mushy. You could also use a Parodi cigar or other fire cured cigar that is hard so it will not absorb too much. Do your thang and don’t
