Trump continuously exposes himself to criticism, caricature and condemnation...his latest self-immolation exposes his azz to be much larger than his heart and his brain, the two organs in his body that are in a death struggle to prove which is the least consequential of his body...

First, his refusal to even say John McCain's name when praising the passage of a Congressional military spending bill named in McCain's honor...

then his refusal to sign, and his order to the WH communications dept. not to issue, a previously prepared statement in remembrance after McCain's death...

finally, having the WH fly the flag at full height this morning, until a public outrage compelled him to lower it in McCain's honor...

Has there ever been a more petty POTUS?

I didn't vote for McCain, disagreed with a lot that he did, believed he would've gotten us deeper into conflict with Iran and the ME...but wow...

And if you want to compare petty, McCain votes against his party the wishes of his state hoping our President will fail just because Trump shared his personal feelings about him... Much worse was said here about McCain when he was running against Obama...
But it's another reason to bash Trump so go for it...

Actually drafter... I don't think that much negative was said about McCain here. I have a recollection of that year, and I don't think anyone was particularly negative about him. I am pretty sure I didn't say much about him that was negative. Just his idiotic running mate.

But to Delta's point, he literally didn't have to do anything. The normal White House machinery would have handled releasing any messages, flag position, etc.... It seems to me that trump actually had to expend effort to have it turn out like it did.

That makes him look really petty.

Absolutely petty.

I liked McCain, even though he was indeed a RINO.

But truth be told, if the claims are true about McCain telling Trump to steer clear of his funeral, then McCain was Petty first.

You won't hear that anywhere else. Because Trump has elevated petty to a form of art.
But it's true.

how did this feud start? possibly when McCain pulled his support from Trump after the Access Hollywood tape in which Trump boasted that he grabbed puzzies? Trump's McCain "not a hero" remark?

whatever...class and dignity can be displayed when an honorable man praises a worthy enemy upon that enemy's death...partisanship and boorishness has replaced class and dignity in American politics...and we are poorer because of that...

I like Byron York's take on it: basically, the Trump/McCain animus is sort of unusually 'real' --

"There are people in Washington who hate each other but who, for public consumption, pretend not to hate each other. What was almost refreshing about the relationship of Sen. John McCain and President Trump was that there was no such pretending."

Wasn't it that same dude John Burch that slandered Kerry that slandered McCain?

This was a common comment here when he ran for POTUS. I assume it was said because he never checked his brain at the door of the republican party. The republican party has become the party of zero tolerance for anyone who doesn't tow the line 100%.

I supported and voted for McCain even when he followed bad advice and took on Palin. fog

I liked McCain, but I think I'm closer to the middle than most. That's why I've battled pretty much everyone in this place at one point or another ;)

I liked him too. His choice of Palin was one of desperation and selling out in my mind but other than that I liked him and most of the positions he took. I do think he was principled relative to most other politicians and would take the unpopular path if he felt it was right. The obama/muslim thing gave him credibility that many attacking him don't deserve. That's why the Palin choice was bewildering. I think he just knew it was his last chance and let his ambition taint him. Yes taint.

I don't know what happened in that prison camp. What I do know is I don't understand folks using questionable information (right or wrong the veracity is unknown) to denigrate or judge him. I understand he's used his version as an advantage but to be honest I don't blame him and think he deserves it. I do not get the need to use conspiracy or questionable information (his black love child comes to mind...some morons beleived that) to smear him by the same people that hold up Cheeto Bonespur (the biggest RINO there is..with tiny little wee hands). I hated Kerry but didn't get that either. it's amazing how a little bit of misinformation is grabbed on to by some and they will never let it go. Hate the politician, hate the politics but the smear crap using questionable information is strange.

Oh yea... deep state.... I just like to throw that one in along side the birth certificate thing. Yes its random but being logical and coherent is no longer required.

I found McCain to be a good and honorable man albeit imperfect as he said himself. He is way more perfect than what we have at the top of either party however.

RIP

Yup...I wonder if, of all the guys who question McCain's heroism for statements he made under extreme duress, are any of them guys who were released from Vietnamese POW camps early, because McCain chose to remain in captivity so others could be released sooner and to prevent NVN from scoring any political advantage for "being humane in treatment of a VIP"?

Many sources say McCain's statements did not divulge any military secrets and were inconsequential....despite attempts by political opponents to paint him as a "Song-bird"...

I believe he truly cared about America and actually put thought into his decisions instead of just walking the party line. I wish more politicians were like McCain.
