Reports are stating Assad has approved the use of chemical weapons in Idlib.... If true, does the US do anything about it?

Obama is probably going to take credit for it.

Which is a bigger **** story? Syria or Afghanistan?
Screw red lines, just bring our troops home from both...unless and until the administration can articulate a 'goal', or even a strategy...and unless and until Congress explicitly authorizes further war actions, hurry up and gtfo

Dave I whole heartedly agree, but losing a war has a big impact in society. Just something to think about.

Losing? Which society?.....everybody is losing....so I guess the societies of all of those involved....forget about winning; I have no clue what that means and even if I did, I'd have zero confidence it would be the least bit attainable....at least if we got out, maybe NOT losing is a lofty goal at this point

We've got what? Maybe a couple/few thousand troops in Syria now? But at a financial cost of probably 12-20B per year, depending on how/what you count. We have zero indication that there's a strategy or a goal. We (and people we directly support) are right now, literally in the cross hairs of Syrian regulars; Russian spec ops; Russian mercs; Iranian soldiers; ISIS; Hezbollah, Al Nusra...factions we haven't even named yet? And we can't even trust the Kurds or Free Syrian Army any more....and maybe not even Turkey.....As long as we gtfo, I am not sure I realy gaf if Assad gasses anyone left...I mean, I care, but how much? lemme think about it

Ahem, we haven't brought our boys back from Germany, Italy nor Korea. If we're still there...we're going to be controlling the poppy fields a LOT longer.

“I don’t like Mr. Assad. I’ve worked with him—tried to work with him, I should say,” Colin Powell, former secretary of state to the Bush administration, said Wednesday at the Washington Ideas Forum. “And he is a pathological liar. He’s a devil. I’d like to see him leave.” - Gen. Powell - 2015 horse

What?

Seems a silly comparison. Pretty easy to make a rational case that US troops in those countries continue serving our interests and those of close allies.

Not really.

You're basing your case on money. Do the math.

It's OUR money. Yours...mine...each and every taxpaying citizen. While other nations race into R&D, healthcare, rapid transit systems, high speed internet grids and a host of other items that the US will NEVER have the luxury of because we're too busy with our bases and soldiers...listening stations...airfields...adds up.

+1 ...

we spend 36% of the total military expenditures of the entire world...that is more than one in every three dollars of every dollar spent on military resources all over the globe...we outspend China, the country that is second in military expenditures, by three times...

well, we do spend a lot on R & D...for military weapons, vehicles and such, most of which is never used...

Ya, I like R&D spending too. You gotta admit, a lot of cool sh*t trickles down from military R&D.

Without ever firing a shot.

Look at what's happening to nations that dare to define their sovereignty!

They cannot regain it either. They've doomed themselves. People STILL want to rail on the wall now? Now, is when we should be tightening it up. We do not want that trouble here. Look at all of the great European cities now littered with the homeless immigrants that do not assimilate. Heard a report on that very thing this week.

Landmines, gun turrets and Predator drones.
