This is just posting my results, not a how to, what is that’s always stated “results may vary.” Being a newbie I purchased a sampler from the competition (oldest) back in May, they arrived feeling just like a stick. The wrapper was easily torn just removing the cello. I started to throw away but first decided to see if recovering was possible, studying all I could find for how to’s. I tried 3 at first and experienced the worst taste ever, and not just from a cigar, it left a strong metallic taste that lasted for hours after each one, no flavor, very flat and bitter. Remember newbie, my taste buds aren’t developed much more than good tasting tobacco and bad tasting.
I decided to experiment and make it twofold, cello on and off, 20 on 20 off in a 100ct humidor. I started with 69% Boveda but placed humidor at an A/C register, temp would be 70 to 73, rh63 to 65 for a month. Tried one of each, still no change, hard as a rock and really bad taste, but the no cello canoeing. I moved away from the vent temp went up to 74 to 76 rh69%, and I started rotating the non cello 90deg once a week, shuffling the cello ones top to bottom, the Boveda is in the tray above the gars. After a month, showing improvement, cigar has some give the cello ones seem a bit softer, trying one of each, non cello still bad burn, bad taste, cello, even burn, still flat, metallic taste not as long lasting. Continued same process until September. Amazing changes now, the cello have improved to the point of becoming a regular smoker, good flavor no bad aftertaste, even burn, enjoyable cigar. The non cello still has burn problems requiring touch-up constantly, has an offensive smell when burning, bitter taste. I have no clue how these should have tasted originally before the abuse, but for now they’re a smokable cigar(cello ones) the non cello is starting to come around now that I’m putting the cello back on. Let me fess up that I was sure the naked cigars would improve faster, and at several times would give an extra test thinking that I just got a bad one, always the same results! I’m not smart enough to get into explaining why, but their is a definite difference, the cello ones even have a different flavor between different wrappers. The wrapper is very pliable, slight squeeze and it returns, holds a long ash, and get nubbed every time.

The real problem here is once the oils have dried out, ever getting the real flavor from a cigar is impossible. They may be smokable but compare it to an identical stick that has not been dried out........you'll easily pick up the difference.

Isn't it kind of early for you?

While in Korea I once wrapped my stick in cabbage.

Sparky, I gotta give you some props.

You qualified your post, didn't break the rules by inserting a competitor's name and did Internet research (...although nothing said about doing CBid searches Shame on you ...) before posting up. And you have some results they make this post interesting. Good job! ThumpUp

Hope your recovery experiment continues to give you good results. Herfing

Oops, a good portion of research came from this forum, some information was gained about infusing, which I’m putting a few in a tupperdor with clear rum and a splash of vanilla. I’m not into flavored cigars, just wanted to test the process.
