Hey all,

Just a few months into accumulating cigars for long term enjoyment and have been mostly picking up good deals of 5 packs of various brands that I know and like. Thinking about taking the next step -- "next step????" and start picking up singles of better cigars and to try a variety of different brands. Good strategy? Or am I overthinking. Looking for expert advice! Thanks.

When you find stuff you like, buy boxes or other bulk deals.

Usually when I buy singles to try something, it's at the local store.

Don't over think it. Buy what you want, when you want and have fun with the hobby.

One thing for sure, your tastes will change over time so I wouldn't overdo it. Buying various singles of better (...totally subjective...) cigars is a good idea. As a small piece of advice, keep track of the different blends, especially the wrappers so that you'll have some baseline when you look for other smokes. If you like a blend or particular wrapper then try another cigar (...different brand or viola...) with the same type and see if it really fits your wheelhouse. You'll probably be in the "Acquisition and Trying" mode for a while longer so don't hitch your wagon to just a few smokes. Never be afraid to broaden your horizons.

And read...a lot. I follow the "What'cha Smok'in' Azzhats 1,000,000" and "I smoked a great cigar today, thanks to........" threads to see what others are sparking up and what some consider great smokes. I've learned a lot watching what people smoke and their comments.

Good luck and have fun! ThumpUp

And hey, you still haven't answered my question: pancakes or waffles?

I’m still into 5 packs because there’s a chance that the second or third at a later time my taste different. I’ve read several comments about what you have eaten or drank recently can alter the taste buds. Their is also the RH can change in the ROTT to letting it rest, a month can really make a difference.

5 packs can prove the best value overall. But once you find something you really like (Undercrown and Asylum for me) set a bid max at a really good price and stockpile those fotos and do some long term aging tests and see if you like them enough to really long term stockpile for the day when your fav is dropped or changes.

When I see new stuff I want to try i opt for a fiver or trade for some to try. One is not enough for me to write off a blend.
