UhOh I combined the last 5 cetros into the half full box of Camacho Corojo Robustos. So I made room for a box....

Edit— Ordered two boxes, one for myself and my boss wanted one also. Hard to pass up at bargain basement prices and not able to find a bad review anywhere.

Bought a box of 25 of Room 101 San Andres 808 (6 x 60) closeout deal.
Nice smoke but a very loose roll. Also not a fan of gordos

If suddenly all the cigar tobacco in the world were rolled into 6x60's and nothing else..........I'd be a full time pipe guy.

Oh I like my pipe but not as much as I like my cigars. Damn sure not enough to where I would even think about going pipe full time.

Chit I would buy an exacto knife and some cigar glue and learn how to cut them phugers in half and re-roll.

The boxes are very beautiful. The cigars individually wrapped in tissue paper and stuffed in an embossed paper tube.

I'm going to try one of the smaller ones, the Filerokee - 4.5 x 52. Father in law likes the bigger cigars, so I'm going to leave his box of 6.5x50 untouched for Christmas.

First time smoking ROTT in a long time (rarely buy any non Cuban anyhow) . Got here at 7pm last night after I left for work. Just opened when I got home. Will edit and livepost my thoughts.

It's a little guy, looks like a Fuente Short Story. Clip the head and light the nipple foot with a bic. Got a boatload of the San Andres flavor on the nipple tip. I'm not a huge fan of that as I find it astringent, sucks the moisture right out your mouth.

Once it got going at the fattest point, without a touch up - burn is very even coming off the tip straight to the broadside. Astringency fell off immediately and went to the creamy mouth coating flavors of a well aged broadleaf but with more peppery bite. Cinnamon, cedar, pepper. I'm digging it. Not what i usually enjoy but as my smoking has become much more infrequent, im finding myself enjoying different things.

It's strong. Maybe because I've been up for 20+ hours and haven't eaten in 12, but I'm feeling it less than halfway through. I'm also a lightweight to start so it may not be.

Settled into woody spice flavors around halfway. Less creaminess, more SA wrapper coming through as it narrows back down towards the head. I think a glass of bourbon with maple syrup or some other sweet beverage would pair well. But I need to go to bed soon so I've got water.

I'm thinking I'd actually prefer the larger rg to offset the power of the SA wrapper. But it's really good. If I bought this box for $100 more I wouldn't be disappointed.

Conan, try yours, I think this is right up your alley. I think it's similar to the Fuente profile, just a little more bold.

Down to the band. Ash falls early. Not loose pack, just very light ash. More creamy nutty woody flavor with a pepper bite. Loads of sweet wood and vanilla on the very long finish. It's really a fantastic cigar. A few years ago on a road trip I hit up every shpo I could find to buy out leftover Room 101 Namakubi and haven't found anything close since. Those were fantastic. This is scratching that itch.

Smoked it down to an inch. Took about 45 minutes. Zero burn issues. I lit the nip and let it burn. Finished with increased intensity of flavor but predominantly sweet woody and pepper with a sweet finish.

I think I might grab one more box before they're gone.

100% recommend getting in on this. Especially at 80ish a box shipped, these are fantastic.

Raider of the Sacred Leaf!

Glad to see you diggin em Dan. Your review is spot on.

I do love the box. Some really nice work of art I think. I still get a chuckle seeing the Chief holding ole Johnny Tobacconaut's head.

It seems in most of my reading a lot of folks have issues with a SA wrapper. I guess it is an acquired taste. I really never found any issues with a SA wrapper but with these, I think the mix with the Corojo binder and all of the types of fillers used, brother Booth made a dang fine concoction of goodness.

Get em while you can! Because just like the bucanero full sail cigar one day they here then next day Poof, Gone forever.

I was looking at my notes, Yes I keep notes cause I can't remember chit, I was gifted a couple by some of the brothers here. According to my notes, I had written that the flavor was fairly complex. Burn was good, Ash was good, smoke output was great. A side note I had written on the second one was to purchase some if the opportunity arose at my local B&M which did not happen due to my B&M didn't carry them. So, evidently I liked them a lot.

With that said, if you take Hank for example he loves Gurkhas, when most of us here do not for our own reasons. So, as to if you will be happy or sad only you can answer that one after you make the purchase and give em a go. Since the price seemed to catch your eye I would say give it a try and come to your own conclusion.

Better to be sad at buying a box or 3 vs being sad you missed out once they are gone forever. Beer

Phuckin hell... What a cool looking box!! I put mine in my cooler and put my bosses in his humidor. Then I set the empty box up on one of the shelves in his office. Wow the box is a freaking work of art.

Cooler is full. No where to go with more and I was going to order some small winter smokes. Another box or two of Filerokees are small winter smokes right?? d'oh!

A good ash is not flakey and don't fall in your lap.

A bad ass smells 500 times worse than bugles corn chips, taste a thousand times worse than bugles corn chips, and has a tendency to always want to fall in your lap. Anxious

I know, right? The gloss, the metallic cyan/blue, gorgeous! The logo on the back is awesome too, even better than the character on the front!

Quote:

Not really. I smoked 3 Filerokee and 3 Ranflajo so far, and consistently got these times, plus or minus only a minute or two:

Filerokee - average 65 minutes
Ranflajo - average 87 minutes

As you can see, the Filerokee, despite looking and feeling very small indeed, lasts well over an hour.

Note that these smoking times are when smoking slowly, because this cigar NEEDS to be smoked slowly. Every time I sped up a bit, the complex and delicate flavors disappeared and a bit of harshness started.

The Filerokee will only last maybe 30-40 minutes if you smoke it fast as a "winter smoke", but it'll taste sub-par and you'll be wasting your money.

Actually, I'm going to buy several more boxes, but I'm torn over what ratio of Ranflajo/Filerokee boxes to get. They both have their strong points. In terms of tobacco amount per dollar, clearly the Ranflajo wins as they're much larger for only $5 a box more (currently), however the Filerokee's different shape subtly changes the experience and seems to slightly intensify the flavors, but it could be my imagination.

Anybody else got an opinion for one or the other?

Leaning heavily to just going all Ranflajos on this order. 33% more smoking time for 6.25% more money, I just can't argue with that, plus they're MUCH larger, both visual and tactile, when eyeballed and held in the hand.

The flavor/performance differences are minimal enough to be within the "is it my imagination?" range, which means they're not significant.

The Ranflajo is a hell of a smoke. Just had one earlier. Complex, shifting flavors, chocolate and orange and other citrus notes, different spices, and perfect construction and burn.

Again I'll say, have these with a good coffee and cream, it enhances the experience quite a bit IMO. And remember: SLOW. Short small puffs not long large ones, and well-spaced in time. "Sip" the smoke, don't "drink" it. You'll thank me when you try it, because you'll get maximum flavors and zero harshness.

Dammit you’re not helping!!! Hahaha

I definitely wouldn’t try to burn down a filerokee in 45 minutes. I am a very slow methodical cigar smoker, besides if I want a quick smoke that’s what Tat PCR, PTR and Cracker crumbs are for.

Two boxes of Ranflajos in my cart at that place...

Have cracker crumbs and a box of La Careme in my cart at another place...

Hmmm can’t get both

Lmaoo, well that is a lot of what its about right. The support is strong with most B&SOTL.

You are so correct on the smoke her slow. This was a bad bad habit of mine when I first started. I loved cigars so much I would all but catch my nose hairs on fire drawing em down so fast. It took some serious conscious effort to slow it down and enjoy every puff like it was gourmet chocolates. Once I did that WOW the flavors. It is amazing how to much heat can destroy a good smoke. You can hotbox a cigarette but do that with a cigar then you have just pissed away a fine fine thing.

Well, I've now gone super-deep on this deal, the wallet is screaming in pain, but I know I won't regret it. Already aged 2 years (being a one-time 2016 limited release), and the five-nation blend with heavy doses of multiple different ligeros means it's probably gonna age wonderfully into the foreseeable future. Can't wait to see what I have on my hands a few more years from now, they'll very likely be even better!

At least, I hope so, for the sake of my very irresponsibly-large purchases of these things!

The motivation for going crazy on volume was one-third "holy crap that's cheap!", one-third "never to be made again, buy now or miss out forever", and also of course, one-third OMG THEY'RE AMAZING IT'S AN ORANGE CHOCOLATE STICK OF EXTREME COMPLEXITY THAT'S PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED!

Together those three factors make a compelling argument for blowing lots of money to stockpile and hoard them! Herfing

I bought an irresponsible number of boxes because just ask yourself: in the future, for example 3 years from now in 2021, will you have regret because you really wish that you could go back in time to 2018 and fork over a few more multiples of $85 and in exchange, get a few more 5-year-aged* Ranflajo boxes in 2021?

My guess: hell yes, you'll wish you could, but it'll be impossible.... unless you do it NOW. So suck it up and DO IT! Years from now the extra money you spent today will be long forgotten about, but you'll HAVE the aged, world-class sticks!

*(Remember, as 2016 releases they already have 2 years of age on them right now).

Ok I’m done. Ordered two boxes of ranflajos today.

I have to setup a coolerador or tupperador at work now.

Hadn’t ordered from Holts since the Camacho Corojo deal a few years back. It’s too funny that just recently I was thinking about that deal and I wondered when there would be another barn burner deal and here it is.

One box of filerokees, 2 boxes of ranflajos.

So glad now when I open those boxes of 11 year old Camacho Corojos that I bought what I did, when I did because they are history.

What’s friggin’ nuts is looking at other places selling the exact same box of cigars for $240!!!

That's because the sale's over, and they're back up to $95. I'm surprised they gave you the $85 price over the phone, but they ARE supposed to have excellent customer service, so maybe they figured "what the hell" and approved it.

99cobra2881 wrote:

This is what I'm talking about, right here. Years from now, guys, you're gonna be REALLY GLAD you bought them today.

Remember: Present You is giving an awesome gift to Future You, a gift that Future You will be completely unable to get for himself, ever again.

Be an excellent Present You, a real stand-up guy, and show Future You that you appreciate him! Give him the priceless gift of then-unattainable, long-aged, world-class cigars, and preferably a LOT of them. HE DESERVES IT!

Quote:
What’s friggin’ nuts is looking at other places selling the exact same box of cigars for $240!!!

I know. They're about that price everywhere else, and many of those places are out of them (out of stock, probably forever).

What I suspect happened... just a guess, mind you... is that Davidoff had a ton of these boxes left over, and made an agreement with this vendor to be their designated low-cost liquidation outlet for these boxes. Just this vendor. Thus, all the other vendors are at $240-270 and are mostly out of stock permanently, while these guys can blow 'em out in large quantities for $80-85 and haven't run out yet!

I got a nutty number of boxes on this deal and blew a whole lot of cash, but these things are just awesome and I can tell they're going to age spectacularly well. My palate has a good track record of predicting these things.

Also, as far as I can remember, I've NEVER before been able to buy ANY cigar of this super-high flavor, complexity and construction quality for $4.00-4.25, ever. So, you bet your ass I'm gonna blow serious cabbage and christen yet another giant Sterilite container for these, and I did.

Like I've said before, dropping the money hurts today, but down the road, you won't even REMEMBER it. The pain of spending will be long gone, like it never even happened. But you'll HAVE the cigars right in front of you!

The writeup says "An Ecuador Habano wrapper blankets a balanced blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan long-fillers."

I already have gazillions of cigars that fit that description. I have zero that fit the unique 5-nation blend description of the Chief Cool Arrow (Mexican SA maduro wrapper, Honduran Corojo binder, and Esteli ligero, PA ligero and Dominican Piloto Cubano filler mix). I just have nothing like it already, and it's freakin' delicious.

Thanks for the tip though, I might try the MC3 sometime.
