Good audio interview with Matt Booth of Room 101. He talks about Chief Cool Arrow, among other cigar topics:

Brother, you can't take the money with you. If you die over night the rest of your family will be fighting over your left behind money. If you really really care for your family you will take away that urge and spend it all now. This way they can focus on celebrating your life and not what you left behind. Now, there is your justification.

Do it for them BUY SOME! Anxious

Maybe. There's only so much money and room. I got to figure out where to put these two boxes. I guess I might have to do one of those plastic tub humidors or cooler.

Kinda the same here. Coolers are totally packed and have had to put excess into Ziplocks with Bovedas. The lack of space prevents me from buying any more boxes so had to pass on these. Plus, no telling what’s gonna happen when I get to Casa Fuente next Monday.... Gonz

Filerokees just went up from $80 to $90 and lost free shipping.

Ranflajos recently went up from $85 to $95 and lost free shipping.

I wonder if the warehouse is nearing emptiness, spelling the permanent end of the Chief's availability....

Time is growing short. TICK, TOCK, TICK, TOCK...

All good things have to end. I remember checking back in on the Camacho’s watching as each one went out of stock. I’ve been doing the same here, wondering which will go out first the Filerokees or the Ranflajos?

Normally I don’t either but splurged a bit a couple years ago. Was at the end of my really good commission checks run so bought a few more CF smokes that I’m sitting on. Really only looking to pick up a couple of their lanceros (...hey, a fella can dream, can’t he?...).

Never been to either CW or PSS but will add them to the list of places to go to.

Alright, ordered me a box of the filerokees. Got another box of the Room 101 San Andres 213 as well.

Don't know if anyone tried those, but I was impressed with my first box I ordered, so figured might as well pick another one up before they're gone.

I don't think you'll be sorry. I've never had a cigar nearly as good as those at $4 each. The bang-for-buck is just crazy good.

Let us know what you think when you smoke one! But remember, GO SLOW, these fellas perform best that way.

They're going to be used as golfing smokes... so by nature of their purpose, they will be smoked slow.

Been using those San Andres 213's as golfing smokes too ;)

As long as the wrapper is thick and hearty I'm sure I'll like them. I've liked all the other San Andres wrapped Room 101s that I've tried.

I'll try to smoke one just chillin' one of these times, but I really don't smoke that much anymore when I'm just hanging out, and rarely pick a maduro when I do.

There are exceptions, but generally here's what I usually do:

Physical activity while socializing == Lower-grade cigar.
Physical activity alone with my thoughts == Mid-grade cigar.
Sitting while socializing == Mid-grade cigar.
Sitting alone with my thoughts == High-grade/world-class cigar.

Level of distraction is inversely proportional to my ability to fully appreciate a cigar.

Smoking something like a Chief Cool Arrow while doing something like golfing, especially with other people, would largely be a waste to me.

If I hit the Powerball or something, sure, I'll burn the world-class stuff in all situations. But until then, the above is what I do.

For me, it's the price I paid for it, and the type it is...

It's 4 bucks, it's a Maduro... for you it may be a high grade/world class cigar... for me, it's a golfing smoke ;)

Then again, the vast majority of the time that I smoke, is when I'm golfing... so there is that.

Ya, they've been putting the room 101s on sale quite frequently. I haven't been disappointed with the couple boxes I've already picked up. I haven't got the Chiefs yet, but I'm sure they're good.

Very interesting. It's actually about a $12-14 cigar, and was from its 2016 introduction until now, and is only briefly available to us now at $4 two years later due to a chain of business events that led to a liquidation being performed. It tastes and performs like the $12-14 cigar it was created as, and still is.... we just lucked out for the moment!

As for maduro, I don't view it as superior or inferior to any other wrapper type. There are good and bad examples of all wrapper types, and of course the combination with the binder and fillers is hugely important.

So CCA to me is top-notch construction, draw and burn, complex flavors with lots of transitions, and great stick-to-stick consistency. It's one of the best sticks I've ever had in 20 years in the hobby. In other words, world-class, about as good as it gets.

What I actually paid for it is irrelevant, and what wrapper type is has (provided it's delicious and "works" great with the binder and filler) is irrelevant also.

It's interesting to hear others' views on how to classify cigars though!

I use maduros for golfing smokes because the wrappers on a good maduro can take a beating... which is essential for the golf course. Technically, I'll smoke anything on a golf course... but I haven't had good luck with more delicate wares.

Also for me, I can fully enjoy a good smoke while in good company. I've smoked many high end cigars while on the golf course or partying with friends, and I don't regret it (except that Padron 1926 I left somewhere between 7 and 9 that one time... doh).

After years of smoking on the course, I just came to the conclusion that maduros are better for golf.

Ohhh, I see now! Maduros ARE much more durable wrappers, usually! Very interesting, makes sense for golf or any activity where you're frequently picking up and putting down the cigar! I assumed you were only talking about flavors, not functional considerations. Nice.

Also interesting you can fully appreciate a good cigar while chatting. I have problems with that, too distracting. Everyone's different!

bgz wrote:

Pretty sure you're gonna like them. Pay attention to the cold draw, you should very distinctly taste orange chocolate, which is something i've never gotten in any other cigar.

My phone is the biggest distraction when I’m trying to focus on a cigars flavors. I have to put the phone down.

Btw sale on the CCA Filerokees is off again. They must have a bi-polar squirrel flipping the sale switch there, it’s on again, off again, more than most Hollyweird weddings.

All the discussion on this made me pack the one I had in my travel humidor for camping this weekend. It was gifted to me by NWStogie. First real fall evening here and sitting at the camp fire by myself fired it up and paired with a Macallan 12. It was a very good smoke.

Jesus I’m done I’ve never bought blind like this before.

Ordered another box of Filerokees.Total of 2 for me, 1 for my boss.

Ordered 2 more boxes of Ranflajos. One more for me total of 3, 1 for my boss.

**Edit** Im getting excited to have a new cooler getting ready. I set it out in the sun today to help get rid of the plastic smell, it’s sitting now with two boxes of baking soda spread out in the bottom. Should be odor free and ready by the middle of this next week. 1 cooler is just not enough!!! Herfing

Well, the $10 off the giant ones plus the hat freebie (and the crappy lighter I'll probably give away) got to me. I ordered 2 boxes of the 8x60 Chingonimos, even though I usually hate huge cigars. Something tells me these will be the exception to the rule.

And now, I really have to stop. Luckily, I can stop anytime I want! Herfing

As I said above, I can vouch for the Ranflajos. They last about 33% longer than the Filerokees, and are roughly equivalent otherwise. The Filerokees might be just a little stronger, or have slightly more transitions, but honestly it's within the margin of error, and it might be my imagination. Both are excellent.

Let us know what you think after you burn one!
