RIP Roy

Saw Roy in concert back in 1971.
The man played about a dozen different instruments, and played them ALL flawlessly !

Ol' Roy was a pilot. Did you know that? He owned and flew a Stearman Bi-plane. The town I was born and raised in hosted Stearman pilots and planes every year at an event called The Stearman Fly-In. Roy came most years when he could. My Father owned the only upscale steak house in town back in the 90's. He would host events for the Stearman guys. He called me one night and told me "Get your ass out here but you got to be cool." He wouldn't tell me why. I got there and used a key to get in as he had it closed for the pilots. I walked in and there sat Roy with his guitar. Strummin tunes, hanging out and just relaxing. He wasn't performing. He was just being one of the guys and he was treated as such but he was still Roy Clark! He played a few tunes, had a few drinks and ate a steak witht he rest of the fellas. He was just as laid back and decent a guy as he seemed on tv. A memory I will forever cherish.

My father was a country music loving truck driver....I HATED country music....my dad pulled out a Roy Clark album and had me listen to The Orange Blossom Special....the light came on, Instant Fan...the man made his violin/fiddle sound like a train...since then I've listened to a ton of Roy Clark...R.I.P.

Malaguena-performed on The Odd Couple by Roy Clark...Smokin' Hot Guitar...incredibly fast strumming and picking a little Eddie Van Halen in the middle...before little Eddie knew what a guitar could dofog Applause Applause
