Hey experienced, wise and most honored cigar experts ---

I just upgraded to a 100 cigar humidor (only have around 30 so far). Any tips on arranging, or is it just a very personal matter?

Thanks!

I'd arrange that humidor to be right next to the giant 116-quart Sterilite tub from Home Depot that you begin to fill with many, many boxes while your credit card screams for mercy! Until, of course, it's full and you go buy the next one and start filling it, and repeat over and over.

But that's just me! BigGrin

Sweet. I might end up doing that. I have a modestly-sized bedroom I don't need.... I might just convert the entire friggin' thing to a humidor room. Call in some qualified people experienced with such things, and let them do it.

One thing you gotta do is take the cellophane off the cigars when you put them in the humidor. Dumbass cigar companies always put that crap on cigars which makes them dry out and renders humidors useless. Besides they look a lot smoother and sexier in the humidor naked.

Bill Cosby used to have someone whose job was to rotate each one on a regular basis.

I've found that keeping the cello on protects the wrapper leaf on the cigars, especially the ones in the humidor that is used to keep the cigars that will be smoked soon. If you're like me, the cigars in this humidor get "rotated" frequently while I rummage around looking for one that I'm in the mood for...all this rotation can damage cigars with thin wrapper leaves...

and the cello is porous so it "breathes".

I have some in both cello and naked. I think they look better naked - more authentic. So I like naked just for viewing pleasure but the protection of cello is great; Aside from damage, It keeps mold off as well.

completely untrue in every respect other than whether the cigars look smoother and sexier ...

the cello does NOT dry out the cigars and does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to inhibit the function of the humidor ...

it DOES, however, serve to protect the integrity of the wrapper which is a good thing ...

I know for a fact that cellophane screws up cigars. I’m smart enough to know that air doesn’t go through plastic you fool.

But not smart enough to know that cellophane isn't plastic.

Soooooo, a little Vaseline on the wrapper so the Flex-Seal peels off easy?

Buy a really big humidor. Trust me on this. I started out with a travel humidor, then upgraded to a 25 count humidor because I never imagined I would need anything bigger. Fast forward 14 years. I now have TWO 28 bottle wine fridges converted into humidors (full), a 100 count desktop humidor (full) and TWO 48 qt Coleman coolers converted into humidors (full).

To answer your specific question, it doesn't matter. Just keep some distance between your cigars and your humidification device.

I agree. I find that naked cigars often run the risk of unraveling or cracking depending on the relative humidity which is always a challenge to maintain for me.

Repeat after me, kids: "Cello is permeable to air and water vapor!"

It's for protection of the wrapper leaf. It works fantastically well for that purpose. It does not affect or impede the humidification, acclimation, aging, etc. of a cigar in any way I've ever been able to notice.

Ten years ago, I picked about a half-dozen different types of cigars, and for each type I got six out of the same box, stripped the cello from three of them, and put them all away for aging. About a year ago, I began to smoke through these samples. I'd give a friend two identical cigars, one with cello and one without, and then I left the room and he'd remove the cello from the one cigar, then Sharpie A or B on the bands, at random, remembering which letter was which but not telling me. I returned and lit both cigars, alternating puffs A, B, A, B. I could never detect any differences between them, even after nine years of aging with and without cello.

Leave them ON!

Just to back Puddin.

Structurally, Cellophane is composed of thin sheet of organic cellulose (ie plant fibers) which have been chemically treated to stick together and be flexible; plastic wrap on the other hand, is a thin, flexible variant of PVC, perhaps the most popular vinyl polymer.

The biggest differences in mechanical performance are that Cellophane is permeable to moisture vapor while plastic-wrap is not.

Cigars come with Cellophane not plastic wrap!Frying pan
