By now,

Most of you have heard...the name Mary Barra...

She's trying to better "Al Dunlap" the
Truly moronic CEO OF SCOTT PAPER...
"CHAINSAW AL"...cutting thousands of jobs on his way to a massive golden parachute...

This broad is an engineer...not a CEO...

BETTING THE ENTIRE COMPANY ON
"SELF DRIVING CARS" ( what an impractical and impossible near future goal, maybe in 2090 or so...) And "ELECTIRIC CARS" which nobody buys ( and she's cutting the only electric car GM makes...the Chevy VOLT...
WTF? that only makes sense to a woman??)

She is also EXPOSING THE ENTIRE BOARD AND COMPANY TO MASSIVE IGNITION CUTOFF LAWSUITS AND RECALLS...
( ALL FOR A .57 part that could've been fixed decades ago , and rat-ting out all the people involved in the cover-up...
She's getting possible jail time for GM EXECS who broke the law...
Plus +++ saying GM WILL PAY BILLIONS TO INJURED PEOPLE FROM THAT IGNITION DEBACLE...and that will cost way more money than her new PLANT SHUTDOWN AND
15% LAYOFF WILL possibly SAVE GM....

She is not "long" for her current position... I'll wager...

Couple of points:
IIRC Chevy also makes the BOLT EV which is not being cut.

Chevy is doing what Ford already did. They are late in switching from sedans which are not selling well to Crossovers and SUVs and trucks which are in demand.

The ignition switch issue was on the table before she took the CEO position IIRC.

Carry on.....

She can look "O.K." or pretty bad...
Good and bad days...
Some days looks like she's on a " 3 DAY GRIM"
( NO SHOWER FOR THREE DAYS)
and her hair is greasy and matted to her dumb noggin.

15% of any workforce is a very large number...
All those great office & management jobs at
$65K-$150++K just don't grow on trees anymore...
Neither do those factory line assembly jobs
of $50k-$80K...all that middle aged worker grief and loss just so she can "play C.E.O. with a futuristic vision"....

I got a message for that dumb broad...

Self driving cars will never happen in her lifetime...even when she's crapping in diapers at an old folks home...that is 2090 stuff AT BEST...and electric cars suck + they cost TOO MUCH.

If cuts are well executed, I don't think there's many operations of any sort in this country that couldn't handle 15% manning cuts with little productivity loss.

Just look for the union label ( I know, it extends further than that).
