Yes, I know, why not in the politics threads? I did not want this to be political, just conversational. I think as a generality people fall into 3 categories on this issue. 1) Think it is a hoax. 2) Believe every word of it. 3) Fall somewhere in between. I am definatly number 3. I am curious where others here fall based on what they believe.

I believe every word of "global warming and climate change". Every scientific study has shown that the earth has been changing, warming and cooling for billions of years. Anthropomorphic climate change is another matter.

I believe in global warming AND climate change....data is data.....those are easy questions....hard questions relate to whether and how much man has to do with current changes....AND....whether and how much we can/should try to do about it

It's just another way the ego gets us into trouble. Every so often man figures he is the master of Mother Nature, in turn, Mother Nature lets us know who is in charge.

What do we want?
Consensus!

When do we want it?
Whenever they tell us!

Absolutely. Can't even imagine how much better off we'd be if we hadn't spent all that time and money cleaning and managing rivers, lakes, wetlands.....or how much we'd have saved if we still had DDT and aerosols...coal plant scrubbers? What a waste of money!

Climate change has been a fun roller coaster ride for all involved.

Scientists and "experts" have predicted:
A. Global Cooling
B. Global Warming
C. the catch-all Climate Change

When algore introduced us to exaggerated graphs and charts we became divided on an issue that should not be political.

Conservatives denied climate change existed.

Liberals embraced a bogus consensus and believed it was all man's fault.

Over time, the conservatives have allowed themselves to believe in climate change, but it's a natural occurrence.

Over time, the liberals have allowed themselves to believe that man is simply "contributing" to the changes that are occurring naturally.

But, we've still got world powers that believe a carbon exchange and arbitrary restrictions (read: tax and more tax) will stymie mother nature. Anyone who feels different is a "denier". Because it's easier to call names than it is to discuss facts.

I hate the climate "debate" because the left doesn't allow for debate. When cornered they just say "consensus" and think they've accomplished something.
And the right do deny it, but mostly as an involuntary reaction.

Yep.

Unfortunately, quite true.

In fact, you wouldn't have to change too many words in there to sum up the current immigration 'debate'. Facts are irrelevant now.

How about a category of people who are pissed that there’s a political religion ran by people who are using it for profit not altruistic beliefs and name calling people who call them out.

I used to get caught up in the "facts" and figures and statistics about illegal immigration.
Now I don't care what the stats say.

Open the border.
Or enforce the laws.

Clearly there is climate change and anyone calling it a hoax is ignorant. As to the cause - too many people or maybe Jespear's pea soup effect.

See, you're begging the question, i.e.,it's only "reasonable" if you agree with my preconceived POV.

There is evidence DDT is bad, though there is also evidence the diseases carried by the insects it killed increased when DDT was no longer used. Pollution of rivers and the ocean was thought by man, to be acceptable by the infinite dilution of the crap they threw into rivers and ovens, Mother Nature thought otherwise. Science said DDT was a godsend to mankind and dilution was a solution.

There are many theories, probably truth and untruths in all of them.

One thing we know for sure, is that the temperature oscillates. There is a lot of evidence that suggests that where we are relative to the sun and where the sun is relative to the galactic center are the biggest factors.

We might be helping the warming trend a bit, but I think it's a bit egocentric that we think can do anything collectively to screw up the cycle to turn Earth into the next Venus.

We're simply not that advanced... I would even go as far as saying that we're still a primitive species.

I don't always agree with Hawking, but one thing I do agree with him on, is if we don't want to go extinct, then we should probably be trying to find a way off this rock... because nothing lasts forever.

Up until algore mislabeled his hockey stick graph as "global warming", did you believe that the earth's climate was stagnant? Because if you did, then you were ignorant.

Of course, if you didn't then this thing called "climate change" was always occurring.
And the best part?
"Always" means before mankind.

The "hoax" is the non-existent discussion about the role that man plays.

There is NO consensus on the impact that man has on climate.

Just don't say that out loud in mixed company.
