National Day of Mourning ....ok...whatever....maybe a little hyperbolic, but all right....Federal Holiday?!? Really?? Who's paying for that?

Didn't this happen when other Presidents died? Seem to recall similar declarations when Nixon, and Reagan and Ford died...

If a nation doesn’t choose to mourn a deceased what does it say about that nation?

I have no problem mourning the death, but the holiday is not needed and is out of place.

I am not sure how a day off is symbolic of mourning for 41.

I agree. One doesn’t need a day off to mourn.

Pretty sure the National Day of Mourning for Reagan and Ford were federal holidays. We, as public employees in CA, also got the day off.

I don't think it's big deal...how often does a past President die?

Not me...I gotta work to stay alive...
I'll mourn while I'm dumpster diving, trash picking,
Metal scrapping and lotto ticket trash picking.

I don't get federal holidays...

Unless???
The FBI RETURNS MY $1+ MILLION IN CASH...
( and believe it or not...I could see G.H.W.B. decreeing just that for me, he never liked the FBI...he was a stand up guy)

I miss the days when the person in the office respected the office and we demanded it. We demanded it even a few years ago when bammy did some things felt to be beneath the office (right or wrong). Now we accept what would have been unacceptable a short time ago.

Godspeed GHWB. Regardless of politics you did it right.

I especially like the line attributed to him..."they are my opponents, not my enemies".

He put the country before his political well being. It cost him reelection and billy bob got credit for the bush economy turn around. He never said a thing and embraced the clintons rather than vilifying them. GWB same deal in that regard. I took issue with some of his policies but he wasnt evil or the enemy at any time. I hope we return to civility and not rewarding the fringe.

Sounds like GHWB, and America, were pretty great then...I respected 41 ... thought he represented our country well, though I disagreed with some of his politics...

if Trump really wants to make us great again, he could study GHWB...
