January 3, 2019.

The day victor lost his sh*t over a Mary Poppins song while trying to play super-liberal by rescuing the world from a word he doesn't like.

Spin it however you want tail. Everyone can read and come to their own conclusions.
I read it as an Asian member of this community confirmed that a specific word was used at one point as a slur, and you suddenly became super concerned as to whether that would interfere with your right to sing Mary Poppins songs... Despite it being pointed out that it isn't related.

I've met people who act like that. I don't have a ton of respect for them.

You want to consider that as me "losing my sh*t" feel free. I mean, you've already demonstrated that your priorities are on ensuring you can continue to sing Mary Poppins around Chinese people... So I have to take your view on things with that in mind.

Rman... That's actually why I had asked in the first place. I had thought I remembered hearing it as a slur in the past , but when I looked it up I just got a name...

There being a name in a foreign language with a similar pronunciation and different spelling doesn't really make a difference though....

None of this "what about x" matters actually. We still use the phrase "**** in ones armor" and everyone knows it isn't intended as a slur. It's when it's used to refer to Asians that it becomes a slur. To pretend differently is to change the focus from "this is a word we shouldn't use to refer to x race" to "oh poor me, another white male right is being taken from me! I can't sing Mary Poppins!"it's a tactic used over and over again.

Next someone will start using phrases like "virtue signalling" and "SJW"....

Until 12/30/2018, I Had Never Heard Of This Ethnic slur...I Had Only Heard of the Mary poppins song, and I can't remember the last time I danced about singing it, and I sincerely doubt anyone will see or hear me singing it any time soon....I do find it hard to believe that we are well over 50 posts into the subject

Delta, seriously, when was the last time you heard the term used as a slur, other than Mr Jones? How many of the rest of you have heard or used the term to belittle someone?
Gee zus, take a chill pill, and let's discuss something important....how do you guys feel about the Manfred Mann tune "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy Dum Diddy Doo"....what the he'll is that supposed to mean? Anxious

I find it odd this went that far too.

Should have been "hey, I think that's an ethnic slur"
"Oh yeah? Sh$t guess we shouldn't call Asians chiree".

Conversation done.... We move on to other topics.

Super concerned? That was your take?
LOL!

Your penchant for extreme hyperbole is surpassed only by your snowflake tendencies regarding your feelings.
Which is odd for someone who kicks the homeless and would welcome a population thinning plaque.

So stay who you are.
You are unique.

We should stop naming children Charlie in deference to the Vietnamese.

I just wish there was a snappy little tune from a Disney flick to sing about Charlie.

Yeah tail...
You really should reread what was posted in this thread.

Nowhere have I suggested that people shouldn't sing Mary Poppins. Your flailing attempt to imply I did, by suggesting we're going to stop naming children Charlie next, is exactly the same ploy you tried with your Chim Chim whatever song concern and your constant claim I'm being some sort of snowflake or liberal whatever.

It shows who you are. Rather than simply taking in information and making a decision what you will do with it, you chose to lash out. "But! But! What about Chim Chim che-ree!" Like a spoiled child you want to make sure this new information isn't going to make your joy of singing musicals any harder, and when it was pointed out that it had nothing to do with your favorite musical, you doubled down on it with "of course it is nonsense vocalization"... Then if it was nonsense vocalization, why would anyone try taking it away from you?

You don't see how you turned a simple conversation on a word none of us knew used to be an ethnic slur into your "concern" over something you knew wasn't related.

Nowhere in this thread has anyone suggested you can't name your kid a French name, sing nonsense showtunes, name your kid Charlie, or call cheap people niggardly. It hasn't been suggested anywhere, so you are making up false scenarios which you then suddenly become concerned about. None of this conversation needed to happen. None of it. You created the problem where no problem existed, and have now whined about it for 2 pages while lashing out at me as a snowflake.

It tells me what it is that worries you, and demonstrates exactly what sort of person you are.

Jones... They won't touch me.
I already burned through victors001-808 to stay away from the SSG.

At 809 I gave up and have been feeding the SSG information on the location of your H.U.T. and whether or not you're home based on your posting habits.

Who do you think told them to place the agent at that toll booth?

to be honest, I only heard the term "chiree" (pronounced: chie - ree) a few times in my youth, in the early 60's...mostly from relatives of a neighbor across the street...they lived in Lima, Ohio and visited L.A. a few times...they called my siblings and me that name while pulling the corners of their eyes towards their ears...kids being kids, who knows where they got the idea from...we actually got along well and played together each of the few summers they visited...

I also heard the term used in the old western series Bonanza, which featured Hop Sing, a Chinese cook who lived with the Cartwright clan...the term may've been used by a character while referring to Hop Sing's nationality...

not sure, but I think it's a mocking term, a bastardization of the word Chinese and intended to highlight the Chinese linguistic limitation...we famously are unable to pronounce the "r" sound...

many derogatory terms for asians are derivatives of the country of their origin: japs, nips (Nippon/Japan), flips (Filipino) ch!nks, ching chong chinamen (I heard this the most in my youth)...

the "chiree" in the Mary Poppins tune "Chim Chim Chiree" is pronounced "chuh - ree" ... soft i vs long i

I doubt if any Chinese take offense to the word, even if used to describe someone from China or of Chinese heritage...

It was in Post 77.

Don't play the semantics game.

You said "I don't care if you want to insult the Chinese".

The only reason to say that is:
A: I insulted the Chinese
or
B: I said I wanted to insult the Chinese.

Since neither is true, I am rewarded with an option to choose which reason you embraced.

So you're either stupid or a liar, but the ever present BOTH keeps pushing it's way to the front.

Reading comprehension tail.

Learn it

"I don't care if you want to insult the Chinese"
Is that a past tense term?
(Since your reading comprehension is so poor I'll answer for you) No.

Want is a present tense verb. I even paired it with a conditional "if"
Nowhere did I state that you insulted the Chinese. So you can f-k right off with that idea.

My wording is unambiguous. I'm starting to understand why you aren't bothered by trump at all. You don't understand proper English sentences, so his crap probably is just as comprehensible as someone who is literate to you.

The sentence said exactly what I meant it to say. And nowhere did it state you had done anything past tense.

Reread your posts.
I already pointed it out. You remind me exactly of jr high kids who find out there's a word that sounds a lot like a word they shouldn't say, and suddenly is interested in it. If this were jr high, you'd suddenly start singing mary poppins around anyone chinese.

But no. You're not insulting them. You're just really into musicals. It's their own fault if they take offense.

That's fine. That's clearly the end goal you are aiming for with your sudden interest in mary poppins. And as I said, I don't care if you want to do that. You clearly telegraph your decision, and point out exactly what sort of person you are.

If you have any other reason for your statements, feel free to point it out.

But again. No one in this thread gave mary poppins any thought but you. No one told you you couldn't sing that song (but you were really concerned with being able to)... you created the situation. You created a false concern for the situation. You wanted to make sure we all knew that you knew it wasn't in any way related, but you still wanted to bring it up.

It’s amazing to me how often folks are completely off base and even idiotic yet they somehow think they are really smart or even triumphant and declare victory when they have no clue the vast majority of folks reading their stupidity are just being too nice to point it out or being a good team mate or tribesman.
