As a Sooner fan, I will take the Sooners +14 if someone wants to take Alabama for a premium 5er.

The spreads on these 2 playoff games make them appear to be about as competitive as the Auburn vs Purdue game is.

I was thinking about that as well.
Makes me change my mind about increasing the BCS to 8.
4 is plenty.

After seeing bits of those 2 games?
The is absolutely no reason to bump the BCS to 8 teams.
Heck, might as well go back to 2!
Notre Dame looked like a high school team compared to Clemson.

I think you are looking at this in a results oriented manner instead of what is best for the game over time. This year was one of those years when there were 2 teams head and shoulders above the rest (and Bama is head and shoulders above Clemson). I believe that most of the time games would be competitive between the top 8 ranked teams in a playoff system

Eh..........I respectively strongly disagree.
I was kidding somewhat about going back to two, but 8 is simply a waste of time.......but the money involved??.........they may do it sooner than later.

Basically, you have a hand full of college teams........maybe 8.......that are simply head and shoulders above the rest of the country. But typically half of them have injuries, a down year, and couple bad breaks.
So each year, it's the same thing.......2, 3, or 4 teams being clearly dominant.

There could well be a year or two when all the powerhouse schools are down s bit, and a second tier school makes a run.
But that's the exception, and will not happen often.

If OU wouldn’t have come out of the gate like scared little kids, this would have been better. Except for the 1st quarter, OU could have won. In he final 3 quarters OU outscored AL 34-24. Overall, I wasn’t too disappointed with OU. They did win me a few cigars. 😃

Nick Fuqstain Saban won you those cigars..........he could've drove to the end zone instead of taking a knee.I'm getting ma a Nick Saban poster(think I'll get you one also David).......haven't made my mind up yet, piss on it repeatedly and often, throw darts at it or

All the above

Last year's games were all competitive and I would guess that if the playoff system were in place longer you would see more instances like last year than the current year.

Remember when the Super Bowl was just blowout after blowout. There has been a long run of good games now though. I feel that CFB playoff expansion would decrease the advantage that the Bama's and Clemson teams have in recruiting right now and once that gap closes the games begin to be more entertaining. Look at ND, irrelevant for 20 years and then 2012 happens and now considered a school that can recruit the top players in the country again.

Apparently you don't remember the ass whooping Bama gave clempson in the semi

I disagree to a point about clemson in regards to Ga... I do believe they would beat them in a heads up neutral site game

Well now you have a very good point there, that I hadn't even considered.
If 8 teams get to go to the dance, more teams have a chance at the dance, more schools get a chance at getting the blue chip players. Pro level talent might begin to consider other schools, instead of just Alabama, et al.

Then, maybe, eventually, there would be more parity in college football, hopefully amongst the top 40 or so.

Notre Dame hasn't won a top tiered bowl game in 25 years.

The power 5 conferences should pressure the BCS into forcing Notre Dame into a confrence with an automtic birth if the want to be eligilbe for the Championship series. With the exception of one or two ranked opponents, they play second rate teams every season. They end up with high W:L ratio so they end up ranked in the top 10 or so. Then they get a through beat down in these bowl games

2018 Lost Cotton Bowl semifinal against Clemson: 30-3

2016 Lost Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State: 44-28

2012 Lost BCS Championship against Alabama: 42-14

2007 Lost Sugar Bowl against LSU: 41-14
(My FIL used to have season tickets to the Saints. As such he was able to buy his seats for the Sugar Bowl. So my wife and I sat in the first row of the middle level on the 48 hard line for this ND beat down.)

2006 Lost Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State: 34-20

2001 Lost Fiesta Bowl against Oregon State: 41-9

1996 Lost Orange Bowl against Florida State: 31-26

1994 Lost Fiesta Bowl against Colorado: 41-24

So we judge a program now by 1 game against the best competition every year? I get it, people hate ND because they are not in a conference but they still play a decent schedule and half the time it is better than others outside of the SEC. If you take the SEC teams off of SEC schools schedules, they play scrubs and division 2 schools so the argument goes both ways.

Either way ND went through a long span of not even being a top 25 team and now they are making a push towards being a consistent contender again.

Not against 1 game. But, as long as they keep getting drummed in big games it’s easy to argue they shouldn’t be getting a bid to one.

On the other hand, I wholeheartedly say the playoff should be expanded to at least 8 teams. No so sure it will open up the recruiting though. Bama isn’t heads and shoulders above everyone else in terms of talent. As much as I hate to say it, they are on a week to week basis better coached.
