The cat that my wife slowed down local traffic to escort off the road ended up following her home. He's been visiting us now on the regular for the past 2 months for hand outs and sleeping quarters in the outside cat condo my daughter built for him when it got frigid. We let him inside occasionally but have to keep a close eye on him as we have two indoor cats of our own which are both females that have been fixed. He has all his equipment and likes to mark his territory which we found out the one time we took our eyes off him. He left quite a stank that finally dissipated after much scrubbing/cleaning.
We posted online through a local lost pet website immediately to see if he was lost. Nobody responded. He has adopted us but he stays outside as I haven't gotten him fixed to try to bring him indoors because although our grey tabbie is friendly, her black haired sister has aggressive tendencies. We feed him daily and although he's quite appreciative and affectionate he is costing me some scratch plus he has marked the back porch as his. I am a selfish bass turd and was thinking what am I getting out of this deal.
I got my answer the other evening when I ventured outside for the first time in over a month for a cigar. The daytime temps had climbed up to 60 but as the sun went down so did the temperature. The cigar was about halfway when I was starting to get cold and along came the cat (Simon). He jumped up onto my lap and curled up. He was so warm bordering on HOT that I was getting nervous thinking that maybe he was relieving himself on me. He was not! He has proved his worth to me as my outside smoking companion! I was able to nub my smoke and down another beer thanks to Simon! MEOW!!!
