Yes and no.
It's a problem that's been ignored by every president in my lifetime.
But Trump is wrong to invoke this.

Bad precedent.
Very bad.

I support many of Trump's policies, but I'm not really on board with this one. It reminds me too much of Obama's "pen and phone" method of governing.

What about the other 3..?? Or the 12 Obama declared..?? This is nothing new but the media wants everyone to think it's unprecedented... Mellow

Obama was the closest thing to a dictator this country ever had. Do we really want Trump to go down that route too?

Mmmmmmwwwwahahahahahahaha! what one party does feeling righteous, the other party will do, also feeling righteous. Obama bragged about his pen but all Presidents have done this sort of thing.

So, Carter declared this emergency, 'Blocking Iranian Government Property (November 1979)'... why was Obama allowed to give them 100 billion dollars..??? Think

The quote everyone is jumping on is "I don't need to do this, but I would rather do it faster" or something like that.

People are claiming that means it isn't a national emergency.

Meh. I don't think it's a national emergency, but of all the dumb things trumpenfeurher says, that quote is not what I would consider a "smocking" gun that it isn't an emergency.

I wouldn't consider this an emergency but I guess everyone was ok with it;
Imposing Certain Sanctions in the Event of Foreign Interference in a United States Election (September 2018)...

Think

If you doubt the National Emergency...…..I'd love to give you a tour of the Texas border from 300 miles away.We have issues with illegal immigration/human trafficking/drugs most of you will never face.Get informed before you jump on that knee jerk reaction.

I’m informed. There is a problem but it’s not a national emergency or a reason to bypass congress’ functions. Pure politics.

I sure hope AOC doesn’t win the White House and declare tobacco a national emergency.

The problem with going along with this crap because you believe in the cause is that somewhere down the lane you won’t believe in the cause or the person in power and you will get steam rolled.

Getting rid of checks and balances to get what you want has a way of gaping your arse later.

Yes. Obama insisted in a walk and said Mexico would pay for it. Folks forget that.

Hillary didn’t though because she knew her broom could fly right over it.

totally believe any number I'm told of drugs and other horror stuff crossing the border, but the Border People say the vast majority enters through normal legal points of entry...in cars, buses, etc.

The stats say El Paso violent crime was just slightly lower before their stretch of wall. I'd need to see stats saying it had dried up after the wall to be a supporter.

I keep saying stats, so remember, I'm not good wif numbahs.

Here’s my style. Pay for the effin wall. It won’t work and is a gimmick. Give it. It doesn’t/won’t work. Remove the BS then let’s have a serious conversation. Until we do the big orange idiots schtick will work.

We wouldn't need a wall if we simply refused anyone anything if they're not here legally.
No job. No food. No shoes. No service No dice.

But we DO feed and clothe and shelter and insure and coddle them.

My Commonwealth is very open about making illegals comfortable.
Get a drivers license. No paperwork? No problem.
Once you get the MA license, it's a cakewalk elsewhere.
But why leave?
We have sanctuary cities for all law breakers except father rapers.

Who's Father Raper? Or is that just a generic term for a Catholic priest?

yet you are against the wall. You've said as much many times.

cuz you know that the issues are real but not addressed by said wall, I assume.

Why not push for actual solutions instead of this idiotic power struggle since the points of entry that lead to the issues have been well documented without fear mongering?

I'm feeling that there would be bipartisan support.

Wouldn't rocket honey badgers be more effective? We have been though this in multiple other threads. I think we all agree that the border needs to be secured in the most effective way possible, and shut down the money that makes coming here illegally so attractive.

Dude. Next time we meet up please let me borrow those rose colored glasses.

This has been a problem for decades.

I'm not a wall fan, but I do know the simple facts:
It will make enforcement of the border easier.
Once built, we could focus MORE attention at the legal entry points to limit the drugs and illegal activity there.
Once built, we could put an HONEST effort into chasing down expired visas. Like other countries do.

I know this sounds like gobbley-goo to some liberals, but money doesn't grow on trees. We only have so many dollars to spend on border security and immigration enforcement. A wall would actually make it easier and to say otherwise doesn't make sense to me.

There is no bipartisan anything. Not from Trump. And not from Pelosi et al.

Even the voters, we Americans who have hovered around the so-called "middle ground" for so long, are choosing sides.

Stupid, stupid, stupid sheep are calling the wall immoral.
A wall.
Immoral!

That's even more ridiculous then the "trumpers" who think the wall is the end-all for border security.

the wall being turned down repeatedly shows bipartisan opposition.

I haven't done so, but have you found actual info determining an increasing problem over the decades, one that could be even close to an emergency? One growing at such an alarming rate that we need this drastic measure to protect us?

if not, than stop saying you are against the wall, , and admit you've bought the product being pitched by a master closer without researching the claims that it will make your fine delicates whiter.

I have yet to be aware of any empirical data that supports the declaration of an "emergency".
