Good news for the Four Roses fans

"Most people strive to make their mark in their career that will leave a lasting impression with their peers. Master Distiller of Four Roses Brent Elliott set out to make a big one this week, as the company announced Four Roses Small Batch Select. The first permanent line extension for Four Roses in more than 12 years, Four Roses Small Batch Select will be bottled at 104 proof, 14 points higher than the standard Four Roses Small Batch. While we’ll hold judgement until after we have a chance to taste it, we’re excited to see Elliott leave such a big mark so early on in his tenure as Master Distiller."

Demand for the Four Roses has reduced availability. The location where I have been getting the Four Roses select barrels has been reduced to three - four a year. In the past they were getting maybe six or seven a year.

I need to check, one is due in this month.

I've always thought it was a $30 bourbon at best.My first bottle gifted by my wife, the original release was pretty good. All offerings since have been a total let down.

I’ve been drinking a lot of brandy and scotch lately.

19yr glendronach single cask aged in sherry butts was one of the best things I’ve ever had. Anyone a glendro fan? I’m hoping to visit there in November.

Same story around here. My one store in 2014 bought 10 barrels at one visit that year then it was like 6 a year and now they get about 3. The price in 2014/2015 was as cheap as 34.99 at their Xmas sale for private selects. They just wanted to buy more barrels!!! Price has slowly climbed was 44.99 on sale then 55 now 70 bucks no sales sell out in minutes once the email announcement goes out.

Fortunately I did an inventory recently and I’m sitting on a few bottles from the 35/45 days.... one place in town still sells for 55 regular price.

Everyone has hyped this one up. It’s supposed to be like 25 bucks I hope stores don’t jack the price up from the get go.

War Penny Bourbon - small batch Bourbon, 93 proof, distilled from corn & rye by Milk Street Distillery in Branchville, NJ, which is about 10 miles from me. Bought the first 2 bottles from the first batch that was available for sale. Saved the first bottle, been drinking the second. Each bottle has a 1943 steel penny melted in the wax seal. For the taste, I find it real smooth with a nice smoky cherry wood flavor ( just like the other reviews said). Not a bourbon drinker, so I don’t know if it is worth the $68. but my nephews & I really liked this one better than the few off the shelf bourbons I have bought in the same general price range & will definately buy again.

John Barr Reserve. First time I've had it, liking it. It's a blended scotch and for the taste and 33 dollar price point it's pretty darn good.

Quick weekend KY trip for a friends bday. Did the tour at castle and key, wild turkey, James e pepper, and the ghost tour at Buffalo Trace. Tasted:
C&K Gin/Vodka not bad just don’t like clear (they didn’t source, their bourbon is still aging, place looks amazing so much better than my last visit 1.5 years ago)
**** WT81 rye
**** WT81 bourbon
Longbranch too low proof for me
gave the American honey to a friends girlfriend. This tour was a let down and none of the Russell’s were present unfortunately. Looked at a still through a window and tasted the worst products from WT
At a bar had:
Boone county 12yr lion’s share pick - fantastic
Weller CYPB - not great not worth the money I prefer OWA107
King of Kentucky - fantastic drinks way under its proof of 130some
Tried a lot at James e pepper
10yr bourbon single barrel decent not worth 100 bucks
100 pf bourbon young
100 pf rye meh
Barrel proof 3yr rye prettt good maybe worth the money
Sherry finished rye - nicely done for a finish not overpowering but I’m so ducking over finishes

Almost got a pour of cream of Kentucky to determine I want to buy a bottle (158$ at my local) but they wanted **** 40 bucks for a pour I’ll just gamble on a bottle at that price. As usual spent way too much at the gift shpos.....

Bt ghost tour was... interesting... I think it was free or they forgot to charge us. Included tasting of Wheatley vodka gross (probably not bad for vodka I just **** hate vodka) white dog mash #2, old reliable Buff Trace, and older and more reliabler eagle rare. And. Most importantly bourbon cream plus root beer was a solid drink. Now I know what to do with all those cream liqueurs I have

Bullet Bourbon on the rocks. Incredible. Goes down like water. I like to have a glass after work and a cigar. Too bad it isn't cheaper around here - over $45+ for a liter.
That creamy orange/cedar taste reminds me of a Fuente though. Recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good bourbon whiskey.
