Oliva 2nds - What exactly am I bidding on?

I'm considering purchasing Oliva 2nds on CigarBid and want to be sure I'm bidding on the specific Oliva cigar I'm interested in (i.e. Connecticut Reserve, Saison, MB3, or Serie O/G/V/Melanio). The problem is the specific Oliva cigar is not explicitly indicated for each auction; however, the detailed characteristics are indicated (i.e. profile, wrapper, etc...), which should equate to a specific Oliva cigar. This sound easy enough, but I'm not convinced CigarBid is always accurate with Oliva 2nds detailed characteristics, particularly with regard to profile (strength). Can anybody attest to the accuracy of the detailed characteristics for Oliva 2nds auctions on CigarBid? TIA

There maybe be some cheat sheet someone here can give you.
Then again, you can get “Firsts” for darn near the same price if you know where and when to look.
Just look through the Cigar forum a bit...

I'll ask your mother, but we've had a lot of unusual expenses lately.

2nds is such a negative term, couldn't we call them quality challenged? I'll go to my safe place now. :)

2nds, my opinion none are worth buying. Think of the word seconds. Not up to quality, floor droppings,cigars not up to productivity standards but they found a way to sell them without tossing them in the trash.

C'mon, brother . . . Put on your "big boy" pants.
This is a really good forum.
Stick around.
Read some of the previous posts and learn about what we do here.
Believe me, if you can get over getting your ballz busted, and do some reading, you'll see that this is a really cool place.

Usually true, but not always, David. A year or so ago at some other place, I stocked up on multiple bundles of Undercrown and Undercrown Shade 2nds for well under $2 ea. It was very hard to determine why they had been put to the side as 2nds. They looked, smoked and tasted just like the firsts. They even had a few T-52 and LP-9 2nd bundles that I just missed out on. IIRC, the T-52s where put up on the scary place for around $100 a bundle. With my discount, that would have put them at $85 shipped for 25. Needless to say, they sold out in a heart beat.

Oliva 2nds - What exactly am I bidding on?

Wrappers that the roller sneezed on during a very productive cold, (why they look so oily}
Spotted wrappers where da womens sit on the bails during break {no that is not just discoloration}
Binder from the bathroom where they ran out of TP {gives em that barnyard flavor}
Fillers from the floor where Phelipe had previously stepped in Juans chewing tobacco spit on the long walk to work. {Adds that extra tobacco flavor and goodness}

Quality not quite to par but smokable if you are a tight ass. Any other stupid questions?

I’ve typically stayed away from 2nds. Always figured there’s a reason why they’re being offered up but also thought it strange that there would be so many that could be offered on an auction site. I mean, how good is the QC process if that many can get through?

Unless you smoke like 3+ cigars a day, I would rather spend my money on better cigars. And hey, if the auction is not specific on what you’re bidding on then I’d be even more leery about trying to get some. But, to answer your question, maybe a call or e-mail to Customer Service might be better.

Here you go Peyton.

All it took was a 5 second internet search. Or you could've read through this forum a little. Here's the entire thread: http://www.cigarbid.com/...sts/658381/oliva-V-2nds

It's always important to do your own research, only use your FOG lifeline when it's truly needed.

I was at an exclusive high end estate auction where one guy kept bidding while conversing with another guy. The auctioneer stopped at $ 900 and asked if he knew what he was bidding on and he shook his head no. The auctioneer pointed to the barn rooftop weathervane and said is that OK.The guy shook his head yes and then the auctioneer told him what he was really bidding on. I don't remember what that was tho. The moral of the story is bring lots of money if you have trouble paying attention.

Kinda forgot about the list but am now curious as to its accuracy. For S&G, may want to actually bid on a couple of the auctions.

It's got some right, and it's got some wrong...

And is no help whatsoever on the auctions simply listed as 'Oliva 2nds' with no Liga designation...

OPie is absolutely correct to not trust the strength indicator on those auctions...

Now back to our regularly scheduled n006 bashing...
