So the answer to the 3 year old question: pretty good cigar and, in general, worth the $3 they are going for here. BUT, by gosh, there are ones I like better for the same or just a bit more.
Some cigars are "okay today, better tomorrow" and others are "schitty today, better tomorrow". The Sancho Anejo is between those two classifications. Buy 'em and sit on 'em, folks.
I've had various other cigars that are full-bore the latter classification though. I have participated in the mothership's twice-yearly "10-pack plus gift card" deals every time they've done it for quite a number of years now, and boy, were some of the offerings TOTALLY like that! The biggest examples I can remember:
1. One time they did Ave Maria Argentum Morningstars that were pretty terrible until several years later when they began to become okay.
2. Another time they did Diesel Coronas, but of a different size than the usually-seen Diesel Corona. They were horrible, HORRIBLE ammonia-bombs, harsh as hell, unsmokeable really... again, until 2 or 3 years later (I forget which), when they started to get decent. I suspect they were some super-young one-offs or something, as they let them go for 75 cents each net ($27.50 for 10-pack + $20 gift card = $7.50 net / 10 cigars = 75 cents each net).
3. Yet another time, 601 La Bomba Flash Bang (4.5x60 if I remember right). Again, same thing: harsh ammonia-bombs, nearly unsmokeable, until a full 3 years later (if memory serves me right) when they started to get smokeable and not too bad. Those they sold for $1 net ($29.99 for 10-pack + $20 gift card = $9.99 net / 10 cigars = $1 each net).
Keep this in mind if you find yourself eyeballing their every-May-and-December "10-packs + $20 gift card" deals. Most of the offerings are good right away, but a few have certainly not been, particularly the "too good to be true"-priced ones. So far however, they have ALL eventually turned decent and a good value for the tiny price, but it took years.
