Hey guys. I found a 25-bundle of Nica Rustica by Drew Estate in the "Belly" size (7.5x54) which looks like a long Belicoso with pointed tip (probably explains the name "Belly") for just $75. I've never tried these. Are they good? Are they worth $3 per stick? What do they taste like? What cigars do they taste similar to? How's the construction, draw, smoke output, etc.?

Thanks fellas!

I usually try a cigar before I buy a bundle or box, but that’s just me.....

Haven’t had this vitola but I can tell you they put out more smoke than a chimney burning wet wood.

Your CAD isn't as advanced as mine, then. I'm considering getting two bundles actually. Herfing

The rumor I've heard is that supposedly DE treats them with some solution or something that makes them produce a schittload of smoke. I have no way to know if it's true or not, it's just a rumor I've heard.

They ain't what they used to be... None of the DE stuff is in my opinion...

They used to sell samplers - 2 each of the antanos, dark antanos, under crowns, kfc's, HE's, muwats, and the nica rustica's... Used to snag those for under $30.. But the dark antanos changed, then the UC's changed drastically... Last time I got the sampler everything was disappointing expect the herrera's... Pitched the UC's before the half way mark...

I believe it’s mineral oil based (treatment)

This agrees with many other opinions I've read and heard. I'm not going to order these. Thank you!

I've heard that rumor too. It's also rumored that the whole "they don't age well, smoke them when you get them!" thing might be because the "treatment" eventually evaporates or dissipates off the wrapper, leaving a less-tasty "meh" cigar behind.

But, I have no way to know, they're just rumors I've heard, nothing more.

I haven’t had any recent ones, but when they came out I thought there were a good value for a buy at the local B&M.

So take that with a grain of salt because they weren’t fake internet cigars.

I liked them a lot when they were new. Had two escape my hands and fall to the bottom of the humidor. 2-3 years later they were total garbage. I lit both in the same sitting, thinking the first was just a dud. Nope, second was exactly as awful as the first.

Won't be buying those again.

I smoke on a many-years delay, usually, so this solidifies my choice not to buy. Thank you!

Y'know, for years I've heard rumors about that sort of thing... B&M cigars being different from, and better than, the supposedly same exact cigars from internet retailers, particularly large internet retailers with lots of resources and clout.... but I have never seen any hard proof.

DE bunches their tobacco differently. They use an extra fold or two in the process. This adds an extra air channel, so the cigars draw easy and smoke heavy. Now multiply this by the size/diameter of the cigar. If you were to weigh a DE cigar vs another cigar of similar tobacco and same size, you'd find the DE cigar is a bit lighter because the extra folds take up more space.

As for the mineral oil rumor, I wouldn't put much stock in it.

I am the odd bear out here I guess.

The few NR that I have had I enjoyed to be honest. I have not had one since the Undercrown Sungrown Flying Pig came out however long ago that was. I can't remember.

If I recall correctly it was not a complex flavor smoke by no means but had a decent taste to em. In my humble op I would say it was a very mild smoke. I never really had no issues with burn and the smoke output was heavy. Keeping in mind my pallet is weak and I am still very much a noop so take it for what it's worth. I never aged one as it was a buy and just let sit in the humidor long enough to stabilize to my liking.

Tangential question: is an Ewok actually a bear? I realize there is a teddy bear like appearance. However, being in a galaxy far far away on Endor, what are the odds their physiology is actually comparable to Earthbound mammals?

I smoked one a couple of years ago that I picked up for $2. My file says "OK" but it never made it to the buy again list.

Pick up some Avo Synchro's from a b&m and then buy a couple at that other place that's now owned by this place.... Proof...

I've met Ewok. And yes, a cuddly alien teddy bear.

Ewoks are when the Star Wars franchise "jumped the shark". Yes, adorable midget bear-people who live in wooden huts in the trees and whose technology is pretty much limited to logs, rope and fire is going to defeat a galactic empire whose tech is decades to hundreds of years beyond current-day real-world USA military tech. Uh-huh. Yes, totally believable.

Yeah, rig up some logs on ropes and swing them to crush their super-advanced laser-armed heavily-armored combat vehicles made with what looked like year 2100+ Earth-equivalent tech. Oooooookay then, riiiiiiight. Suspension of disbelief lost, cannot possibly re-acquire it. I want my ticket money back please!

However, although we didn't know it at the time, the Ewoks thing was actually VERY MINOR suckage compared to the extraordinarily-crappy additional cinematic turds that started coming 16 years after it.

I have never seen a Star Wars movie...just doesn't interest me, I'm not a science fiction fan at all...
Give me the Godfather, or Reservoir Dogs, or Good Fellas, and I'm a happy guy...Anxious

Saw return of the Jedi a dozen or so times when I was a little kid... My favorite beta tape...

When I was in high school, they came out with the first new one, with the horrible cgi and all... Had zero interest in it and despised the nerd culture around it, so I talked my friends into putting together cheap looking jedi costumes and fashioning terrible light sabres out of plastic bats and flashlights...

We went to the theatre on opening night and messed around with a few news station interviews claiming we'd been there since sunrise and seen every showing since, even leaving some showings early to get to the next showing... This was before internet was common so we didn't know we were trolls... Fresno being the 5th largest city in the state, we got more publicity out of that than we bargained for I think...

You'll die laughing at this. Robert Smigel's "Triumph the Insult Comic Dog" doing Don Rickles-style brutal takedowns of nerds in the Star Wars prequel waiting line:

I wasn't old enough at the time to dislike the ewok aspect of the movie. Having learned in later years it was supposed to take place on the wookie home world of Kaashyk (sp?) I became disappointed.

Have also wondered about the emotional scarring of fans if the fuzzy bastids had in fact roasted and eaten everyone

There's something...wrong with them. They put out an unusual amount of smoke. The smoke literally shoots out the end of the cigar. And they taste like a turd dipped in turpentine. My guess would be an 'enhanced' wrapper. They're really awful. And this is coming from someone who likes most (non-flavored) DE cigars and smokes them often.

I really enjoy them, but then again, most of my stock is from 3 or 4 years ago. I did win a few of those samplers Joel mentioned and the ones included just weren't as good.

We have a saying on Endor. Curiosity kills the Tauntaun.... or at least gets it humped while its sleeping.

It is comparable. Just a midget version is all. Anxious

Same here.

I got a 5er of the El Brujito from my local and although I gave 4 of them away, I wrote that these were surprisingly good. But, being that I bought them almost 5-1/2 years ago and they were available in only that one size (6x52), things could have changed since then.
