I missed the beginning of the show.

So I decided the beer needed a jacket... Wrapped it with some bubble wrap and a blanket, stuck a thermometer against the glass. Looks like that's retaining heat a bit better. Outside of the glass is holding 58 overnight, hopefully will bump up during the day today.

That helped, the beer is farting a bit finally... So some fermentation is happening. I'm going to guess that I'll have to ferment a bit longer than expected since it's moving so slowly.

This may not be delicious beer....

It'll be fine as long as it's not contaminated.

Just a couple weeks ago, our household trash was about 80/20 recycle to garbage. Just got notified that all glass is out...as is plastics 3 through 7. We can only recycle clean paper, cardboard, cans and plastic containers that are marked "1" or "2". We're probably going to flip that old ratio.

The market for recycling material has totally tanked.

The woman has been irritated by that here as well.

In SF just about anything is "recycleable"....as in it goes in the recycling truck and may or may not get recycled probably depending on cost. But the woman is happier.

Here.... only hard plastic containers/unsoiled papers/glass etc.... she's not thrilled.

I suspect the recycling program here is much more cost effective. But I don't know.

Glass will be prohibited next.....unless you and your neighbors are really, really good about separating glass from the other stuff....or, your county has truly state of the art sorter equipment.

Plastics used to be mostly shipped overseas, but China and others have shut down the import of plastics. And, glass has been f-ing up sorter machinery forever, but communities haven't had the balls to face the green outrage when they say "Please don't try to recycle glass."

Apparently 'aspirational recycling'....where we feel good about putting every fn thing in the recycle bins.....has been mucking up the processes and the equipment for a long, long time....but at least we feel better

It's ultimately a lack of visibility. Communities as a whole, and environmentally minded people specifically, need to have visibility to the costs involved in specific recycling.... energy costs as well as environmental costs, so that it can be properly compared to the costs of new manufacture.

I don't see anything wrong with costly recycling which still manages to re-use existing hydrocarbons.... because that keeps them out of the trash, and reduces our need to pump more out. In that case we are sacrificing $$ for reduced impact. Great.

but when the plastics are put in a recycling facility... shipped cross the ocean to a 3rd world country... sorted... and ultimately thrown in the trash heap there.... then we have a problem.

I honestly don't know where the numbers lay on that. I think there's a hidden problem.

No recycling here unless you want to pack your car and take it somewhere. Everything goes to the landfill. When I first moved here it was weird to throw beer bottles in the garbage. Now it's natural.

Screw woodsy owl.

Had a nice peaceful drive with grandma up and over the grapevine... Now I'm @Marty's waiting on Al... This is still the most impressive cigar shop I've visited... And they've got the Holy Lance for $6 cheaper than my local...

So... the wife is in the Philippines for 3 weeks... and I forgot the f***ing Fred Hall Show is in Del Mar this Thursday through Sunday... and I'm f***ing working every damn day.

Oh well. I miss the show but the OT will give me 120 comp time hours. That's 10 days off when the fishing is good.

Oh, and the truck is parked. I will be driving her car, which I just had detailed... like I stole it.
