I ran out of cigars and stopped at a smoke shop..,
I found a white cardboard box of 5
"PARODI -KINGS" FOR $4.66 total with tax...the sign said Italian cigars?
But , its an old family owned company near Scranton, PA ...called the AVANTI CICAR CO. DUNMORE , PA...

IT HAS AN O.U.T.S.T.A.N.D.I.N.G.
WEBSITE..VERY PROFESSIONAL!!

ALL these parodi kings a wrapped in a cardboard sleeve and then cellophane around the cigar and cardboard...
They look a little like Clint Eastwood
Spagetti western cigars,.,
All Kentucky fire cured tobacco...
Pretty damned good...
Not sure about their other cigar offerings?

The website is awesome...
Lots of history.,,

They're a local favorite. Great cigars cheap. They don't need humidification, throw them in the glovebox and forget about them, etc.

It's a "love it or hate it" flavor though. Me, I love it.

Some pals and I toured their factory when it was still in Scranton, and the tour was led by the company president who was full of very interesting historical information. A great time was had by all.

I remember when the Avanti came out, but I swear it was in the early 60's even tho the website says 1970. I think all the Avantis are flavored. I have smoked them and Parodi and DeNobili. way back then they had a rep of being strong enough to make you sick, but I never had that problem. I don't like artificially flavored or sweet tip cigars.

I swear it was just a couple of weeks ago Jonesy told me he had so many cigars he couldn't find his Kinky ones.

We also had a topic of the Spaghetti Western/Eastwood cigar identity here.

The Eastwood/spaghetti western cigars were discussed in early 2018, where I surmised that they were probably Toscani Garibaldis and pudding suggested they were Toscanos. I never did find a clear answer as to what that or those cigars were and Eastwood and his chair probably can't remember either.

Still looking and just found this interesting trivia tidbit along with the fact that The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was mostly made/shot in Spain. Perhaps we should call it a Spainghetti western.

As a non-smoker, Clint Eastwood hated smoking cigars and Sergio Leone often did multiple takes. According to Eli Wallach, Eastwood would sometimes tell the director: "You'd better get it this time, because I'm going to throw up."

CigarBid's forum won't let me post images, which sucks, but I have a meme of a Clint Eastwood aiming a silenced submachine gun directly at the camera with a pissed-off look on his face, text is: "CLINT EASTWOOD HAS HAD IT WITH YOU PU**IES!"

Of course, there are no censoring asterisks. :)

Love those Avanti Anisettes - it's the only flavored stick I smoke. It's only a 10-15 minute puff. Very unique flavor and smooth.

As far as what Clint was smokin, I found a few references:
______
Clint Eastwood said in a recent interview that he brought the cigars from the US & they were called "Virginians" & described them as a strong smoke that put him in a foul mood. He liked them cause the were long & skinny & he would chop them into thirds to fit in his pocket.

Traditional Toscani dry cured cigars (in the vein of DeNobili's) were my guess for a long time due to it being shot in Italy, but alas, this is not the case.

It has long been speculated that what he was smoking was the nub of a Marsh Wheeling cigar ( http://www.broadleafcigars.com/wheeling.htm ) which is probably the most period accurate smoke that you can still buy. They are a 7" x 34 ring smoke & can be considered hearty in comparison to other smokes of it's ilk.

I believe that Clint's "Virginian" brand smoke was any one of the million different Marsh Wheeling style knock off brands that was available in the 1960's. I can't find a google reference for it, so I am sure the brand is long dead & gone, but Wheeling's still exist if you want the experience.
______
"Cheroot" is another style of cigar. It's possible he smokes them in some Westerns. However, in the Leone films he was definitely smoking toscani.

See Christopher Frayling's Sergio Leone: Something to Do With Death (2000), p. 182-183.
