The first cigar my friends and I smoked were the ones Clint Eastwood smoked in The Good the Bad and the Ugly...we smoked Parodis, I'm not really sure what Clint smoked. Then I smoked Black and Milds every now and then for a long time.
For many years I smoked cigarettes, with the occasional mooched cigar thrown in, and I never got it, I thought they sucked...now I know why, I was getting the crap my buddies didn't want to smoke!
Then in 2016, a month or so before I joined here, I was out of work with a torn rotator cuff, I won a humidor full of cigars at a local estate auction. The cigars supposedly had 8 years of age on them, but who knows, and who really knows how they were cared for.
Anyway, one day, bored to death and sick of Andy Griffith re-runs, I decided to choose a cigar and take my book and a cup of coffee out to the deck, and see if this was a worthy purchase.
I had chosen an Oliva Serie G from the box, based solely on the fact that it was the shortest cigar in the box. If I didn't like it and tossed it I really wasn't out much.
Well, I cut it and lit it up with my Bic (um) bowl lighter. Anyway, it wasn't terrible, and after a few puffs, I took a sip of my coffee....it had gotten cold...if anything gets really cold in July/August. Well, that sip of coffee turned me into a cigar smoker. It was like magic, that plain old sip of the coffee I drank everyday(I make chitty coffee), tasted delicious! Like a QUALITY chocolate milk. I've been chasing that experience since then. I haven't found it again, YET, but I'm enjoying the hell out of the hunt.
