I remember mine. Man. It was a Cuban Cohiba I lifted from my Dad's study when I was only eight years old. I was just a lad, but even then I remember I enjoyed the crisp smell of Spanish cedar as I opened the box, the..............Nah. Not really. In reality, it was a gas station White Owl when I was like 16. Yah. But it started me on down the holy path.

Anyone else?

Back when I was 12, my buddies and I would smoke Tijuana Smalls, along with Salem and Marlboro cigarettes. Did that for about 6 months. I never touched tobacco again until I was around 50, and got into real cigars.

Macanudo, Cafe Caviar...

Back when they were made in Jamaica, and a fine little cigar...

Now they are trash (IMNSHO)

Lol you can get foil wrapped Macanudos at gas stations now too. That's never a good sign.

Well you guys are all worlds ahead of me. After reading some of the cigar reviews here, I have realized that I am a lot closer to a casual cigar smoker than I thought, at least in terms of palate.

I started out on a sissy smoke. I was 29 at the time in 1999 and my mother had purchased for me an Acid cigar. I liked them but did not stay with cigars long. I had quit and only here and there would purchase a cigar. While living in Biloxi MS years later a friend of mine hooked me up with his cigar club on a night of an event. It was there I got to meet Oscar Valladares and purchased a box of Leaf. Some of you guys on this forum has gotten a Leaf from me out of the box that Oscar handed me personally all those years ago. It wasn't until I had my stroke that I really got Deep into cigars which was 2 years ago and even more so since I have joined here.

Seems to be a great and knowledgeable community here. When you say Acid Cigar, you mean Drew Estate?

Tried several of them. I just can't get into infused cigars, even extremely expensive ones. I like a few of the milder coffee infused cigars though. The only acid cigar I like is Acid One, the un-infused one lol. I have a buddy who loves Toast though. I just don't get it. Tastes like smoking cologne to me lol. I have had a sampler box someone got me as a gift for years now without smoking any of them.

Yep and that was the thing with me. My very first cigar was infused. I had no clue what a "Real" cigar tasted like. It wasn't until my buddy in MS that I had got into natural cigars and once I got here is when I started learning about them and all that jazz. Now the only infused cigar I will smoke is one my wife bought for me because she dont know no better and I damn sure ain't going to tell her WTF lmaooo. Its kind of like when the wife ask is my ass look big in these jeans... LIE LIKE HELL IS WHAT I DO..... No love, you have a petite ass.

Amazing the difference in a few years. Now, the worst thing you can say to a girl is that her ass DOESN'T look big. Especially if she's black or Hispanic. You're likely to get slapped. I dated a Puerto Rican girl for a few years, and in that community, if you don't have a big ass, you aren't ****. Lol.

But yah, I bought some Tobak especials years ago and still have a few. They're just okay. If you clip off most of the cap.

Ironically, I have been wearing Drew Estate hats for years. Bought a lot of like 17 of them, miltary cap style. LOVE them. Hate the cigars. The infused ones anyway. Like the MUWATS.

oh chit that is a huge question for me. Honestly if I had my rathers I would chose Padron 1964 Anniversary but I damn sure can't afford such. So most of the times its Padilla red label or I guess you would call them cheap cigars or economy smokes lol. Anything that I can get my hands on cheap and kicks like a mule. LFD love those

Lol yah not many people smoke high end Padrons for a knockaround. I have learned better than to smoke expensive or hard to find sticks while active. Had an Undercrown blown out of my mouth on the lake recently.

For straight kick? Tried Punisher? lol. I give those to friends at parties just to see them cough and gag when they inhale.

Punisher will make your eyes water. I haven't had a nicotine buzz since I was a teenager though, sadly. Well, not counting putting half a can of chewing tobacco in my mouth on a dare. That **** has an insane amount of nicotine.

Uh, the Punisher is infused with capsaicin, i.e. it is dipped in hot sauce. If you wash off the capsaicin, you will find it to be medium body at best. It's nothing more then a gimmick cigar. FYI.

Really?

Nah. I've heard that. Haven't seen a single thing to confirm or even support that rumor though, and as I am not in the habit of washing my cigars, I doubt I ever will.

I would definitely be interested if you have a source that can confirm that though.

OH you edited in a link. Sneaky.

*second edit: Interesting. I have a few, I will definitely try messing with them off and see if it makes any difference. And here I thought the ligeros were just that potent.

He was a Vet....former medic.....a really good dude, but had serious drug and alcohol problems.
In those days I primarily smoked Punch and Fuentes. I was a casual smoker.....didn't even own a humi....would just walk to the shpo and buy a few cigars for the weekend, typically a Punch or Fuente, or something else that was on sale......but I can't remember a single one of those on sale cigars.
I kept them in an old Fuente box the shpo owner gave me............no humidification......ha!

Mine was a Swisher Sweet, I had just turned 18, and wanted to make sure I never touched nicotine during my college years. It was nasty. 🤢It definitely did the trick. It wasn’t until my 30th, that I finally picked up an Arturo Fuente in Vegas that one started me on my way to where I am today. I never could find good Gars up here in the stores, but last year, a buddy told me about CBID. Now, I have over 350 cigars and I am smoking my way through 2018, enjoying every Gar as I go.

So, Jamie’s younger than I am. Only semi-surprised.

The first that I recall was a Danneman Tubo, probably around 89-90 (I was 16 or 17). A buddy and I probably smoked a few a month - obviously the local B&M wasn’t big on IDing customers then. Very old school - located on the square of my home town, primarily a pipe shop with a decent cigar selection. It appears they closed sometime after we moved to Alabama in 2003.

The few times I smoked in college (other than cigarettes) they were primarily Fuentes.

In my modern, more serious, cigar incarnation, my first was a Perdomo Lot 23 Natural churchill, bought at the B&M location I still frequent. Probably around 2008. Started smoking a few times a month at that point, and stuck primarily with Perdomo until I got into a more daily smoking routine and discovered one could purchase cigars online.

I don’t buy many Perdomos these days, but since I still have about 200, I still smoke them somewhat regularly. Coincidentally, I’m smoking a Lot 23 Natural Robusto right now.

If you would like, I can send you a sampling of Drew Estate and JDN (sister companies) NON-infused cigars that you may enjoy. Just a random act of kindness. I expect nothing in return. I'm packing a few boxes in the morning, so PM me your addy if interested.

Perdomo is my morning smoke go-to, almost exclusively. Usually a Lot 23 Natural or Connie, a 20th Anniversary Connecticut, or Nick’s Sticks Connie. They all have a little more bite and rough edges than most, which goes well with sweetened coffee.

I also like Kristoff’s Connecticut and the JDN Cabinetta.

Sorry to veer off topic.

Elogio Excéntrico from its creator...great smoke, and it was downhill from there. I was like a kid in a candy store at the local places of purchase. Sadly it made trying to find what I liked harder to do because it was such a great cigar.

Speaking of Hats and Drew Estate, I have Two of the DE Pappy Van Winkle ball caps. Neither have been worn and are brand new, Frosty, if you would like one I will send it to you. NO TRADE. Just shoot me your addy in PM and I will get it out to you.

Here is a photo of what the hat looks like

The last one I have, I am thinking of doing a giveaway, or a drawing of some kind on here but the Hat will also come with a Pappy Van Winkle cigar cutter.

My dad owned a grocery store when I was a kid...I helped out on week-ends and a few days a week during the summer...

he carried a few brands of cigars, El Producto, Roi Tan, Dutch Masters, King Edward and some with wooden tips...when I was about 10-12 yr old, I grabbed one of them, without the tip and tried to smoke it...not sure anymore which brand, but I nearly coughed up a lung...never smoked another cigar until about 10-11 years or so ago...Swisher Sweet.

My dad and the next door neighbor would smoke cigars and watch the old Friday Night Fights at our house back in the 50s. I was around 11 or 12 and tried one of those stogies, an El Producto if memory serves me. Or as my dad called them, El Ropo De Stinko. When I think about it, it's a wonder I ever smoke another cigar again.

The first hand rolled premium cigar I had was when I was 18, in Niagra Falls for a bachelor party. Cohiba Esplendido.

Hmm. Seems a weirdly disproportionate amount of people here smoked a Fuente as their first cigar. Hmm.

Are you TRYING to make me insecure about a White Owl being my first?

This forum community has got to be an aberration of some sort, I've just had two people offer to send me things for free. WHAT WORLD IS THIS. But really, I do appreciate the offer, you have a heart of gold and shall surely see heaven, but I don't wear ball caps, I pretty much only wear military style caps. Google Drew Estate Military hat and it will show the type I wear on a pretty much daily basis, if I don't feel like gelling my hair lol.

EDIT: I realize I'm wearing a bowler derby in my pic, it was taken as a lark. ha

Man that is pretty cool looking. If I wear a hat which it is not often I do. I only tend to wear one after I have shaved my head bald. I will typically wear my black Ivy Cap or my Fedora. I will throw on a ball cap just to go sit in the yard if it is sunny. That's about the only time my Drew Estate Liga ball cap gets to sit on my head. That's the only ball cap that I will wear.

I didn't realize that people didn't wear ball caps...haha...

First cigar was some random candela from the local Minit Mart. No clue who made it. It was alright..good enough to keep me smoking cigars. The next few were some serious crap brands, can't remember what they were, but know I haven't seen the bands ever again. Got ripped off by a cigar shop...that was fun.

First somewhat legitimate cigar I had was the CAO Brazilia...and the rest is history.

Trying to figure out what year I started smoking cigars....I know it was when my wife was in Costa Rica studying abroad. Probably like 2006 or so. So I was about 23 or so.

In regards to Acids, the only one I can stand is the Acid One (as well). The rest are horrible. The MUWAT, Undercrown and KFC are alright, but nothing fantastic in my mind (best out of those are the Undercrown...for me). Now the Liga series...mmmmmm....just started getting into them in the last month or so. I couldn't afford them but had a couple friends gift a few to me. The Ferral and Dirty Rat were great. Enjoyed a couple different vitolas of the No. 9 as well. Have a few others in my humidor that I am looking forward to.

First REAL cigar. Royal Jamaican Director #5.

RJ made some very fine smokes before the hurricane destroyed island's tobacco industry. Several companies have been trying to buld it back up I have read, but have not tried any from there recently. Probably should give them a try.

Swisher Sweets....once every six or eight weeks, or so. College dorm used to have 'Gar Nights' in the common rooms a few times a year; poker, cigars, kegs, other card games..... My first was in '80. Doesn't seem that long ago, but now it is hard to imagine sanctioned smoking inside the dorm lounges

Ha, she was a Spanish major and is now a Spanish teacher. It was her last semester of college. Guys always need some time away from their wife...so it wouldn't hurt to send their wives out of the country for 3 months. Although, that was one of the roughest 3 months of my life...
