The Republican secret weapon for 2020. Anyone who states nurses probably play cards during working hours makes agent orange look smart.

I read that nurses mailed her like 650,000 decks of cards?

Seriously... If anyone should be attacked for sitting around all day doing nothing, it's firefighters...

That's how TW gets most people to sit on his hose.

Would you mind if the police did that? Sat around the station playing cards, shooting hoops. waiting for a call...

Yeah... we should be out there starting fires to make sure they don't sit around. :)

A lot of towns in my area were all volunteer fire departments when I was a kid.

There's gotta be a logical midpoint between all-volunteer and today's version with highly paid part time workers who get full pension after 20 years.

don't see the validity in the comparison other than who pays them.

There is a comparison... they both answer calls... only the po-po goes from call to call until the shift is over, whereas the firemen may never get a call during their shift. Lazy bastids.

There's a whole lot of fire prevention that could be done by fireman in their down time... From electrical inspections to brush clearing... But that would definitely cut into basketball time...

I would take that job, or the guy watching the guys in the manhole but they insist on it being a cop.

Ten students at an Atlanta-area elementary school suffered non-life threatening injuries after being shot by a BB or pellet gun while on the playground.

A statement from the DeKalb County School District says the shots fired Thursday at students of Wynbrooke Elementary Theme School in Stone Mountain "appear to have come from a position away from the school grounds." The statement says county and district law enforcement are investigating.

The injured students were brought to a hospital to be treated or picked up by their parents.

The school district says there was never a threat of anyone getting into the school building. But it's posting additional staff and law enforcement at the school Friday to ensure students' safety.

I guess this got the police out of the office for a few minutes. My thinking, someone was doing a test run for the next school shooting. Knowing how most cops think about just getting it down on paperwork and back to the doughnut shops I doubt this crossed their minds.

The town I live in, in South Jersey is still all-volunteer. So are many of the surrounding towns. They open up the fire houses to residents on the 4th of July for free hotdogs and beer. In December, around 30 local departments get together, decorate their engines and ladder trucks in Christmas lights, and drive through all the communities in a massive Christmas light parade.
