Yesterday, I won a fiver here for $12.
Think
A long time ago (2011/2012) this was AJs top of the line, and routinely sold for $8 to $10ish each..........at auction, and for much more through regular channels.
I was gifted one back then, that had a nap on it........smoked it........great cigar!
But they were out of my price range, so I forgot about them.

So as I was doing my hunting thru cbid yesterday, I see this lot, and just for chits and giggles I put in a “low” bid.
I was shocked to see that I had won one of the fivers.
So I did a bit of searching, and sure enough, the Armada appears to be a $3ish cigar now at auction.
MSRP is still $20??............and the “regular” prices at all the usual places are stupid.
Strange...............sorta Gurkha like...

So, I’m guessing it’s safe to assume the Armada is now just a run-of-the-mill MoW.

At $2.40/ea, I probably overpaid...

I've had a few of these. I think they're pretty good but wouldn't go so far as to pay retail for them. I'm not able to give you a comparison to the OR unless someone wants to send me one of their sleeping ones

A 3 buck stick that smokes like a 20 dollar stick on auction that no one is bidding on is not a sleeper?

I’ll report as to how good they are........or aren’t............but not until they’ve had a good nap.
If they’re awesome, I’ll lie, and tell you they suq.
If they suq, I’ll tell you they suq.

I never had the early Armadas when they were actually $20, but I've had a number of the later ones (2015, 2016, 2017) at varying age points, all between 1 and 3 years of age at time of smoking.

Some were too tightly packed and hard to draw, others burned crooked and were hard to keep lit, others drew and burned fine, but were pretty unremarkable, and actually IMO not as good as most of the rest of the MoW line. For example, I'd take the standard, original MoW over any of the Armada specimens I've smoked so far.

Amazing $20-worthy cigars they were absolutely NOT. At least, not the ones I had. Maybe the OR (original release) were much better, I don't know.

Thanks Puddin, I knew I could count on you to verify my overbid!

Only Armada I’ve had was in the Clown Car sampler (8 or 10 Coronas I think?) and I thought it was decent but not worth the coin. PA was always my fav MOW offering

So you're saying they're just standard AJF cigars.

Huh? I've smoked a huge number of his cigars over the years, and generally they are well-constructed and have no significant draw or burn problems. On most, the flavors and overall experience range from good to excellent, and sometimes with enough age, some of them become pretty amazing. AJ is one of the best bang-for-buck producers in the world.

Your comment makes me think it's "Opposite Day" today. Is it? Anyone have a calendar? I always forget when it is.

I meant most AJ cigars are good to excellent and have no significant construction, draw or burn problems. The Armadas I've had aren't as good as most of his cigars, with respect to these factors.

You might get good ones, though, who knows!

Alec Bradley Sanctums? Bought a box a few months ago. Tried one last week. Actually they taste like Fuentes: flavorless.

I'm glad I only bought one box and got them super cheap. I'll find someone who likes them, and donate them.

I took the cello off the 20 I had and let them age over a year and a half, smoking maybe one every two or three weeks. They got progressively much better. They're aren't a lot of really good Sumatra Maduro/Oscuro wrapped cigars out their. Oliva Serie V Melanio is the best Sumatra wrapper cigar made hands down. The only other two that come to mind that are similar to Armada are the R.P. Decade and Fallen Angel. For under $3 per cigar the Armada is one of the best.
