Something cool or flashy with good artwork/marketing like Gurkha, but not trash?

So first let me say, before two days ago I did not care at all about bands, boxes, names, cool shapes, etc.. I smoke what is cheap from the B&M and I normally don't care for fanciness, I can see marketing for what it is and just want a big stack of reliable cigars to sit on for a while and enjoy daily. That said, I'm kind of catching an itch for the extra layers that can be found in this hobby.. I used to fantasize about big variety packs, now I like the idea of nice sealed boxes with shiny wrappers and douchey names. And throw in "exclusive" in Latin somewhere too. Cigars are a luxury, not a necessity; why not be luxurious in looks and presentation as well?
So about the title...........
Forgive me for thinking Gurkha was a good cigar for $2-3. I thought it was a $5 cigar sold for $8 for the extra flair, that could be found here for $2. Hell I even thought in some cases they could be "collectible" and actually fetch $8 in a couple years or maybe street vend them to tailgaters or outside of concerts. For some reason cigars named after historical **** and dictators under the banner of honorable soldiers known as the Gurkha became appealing when I saw the low prices(under certain circumstances). From reading the story of the founder, it seems like he wanted to create an upscale product and not junk.. And I LIKE hand carved treasure chests and ammo cans and three wrapper sticks. I'm not afraid of floating the cost of HYPE either, as long as the cigar itself is overall good and consistent.

So cigar bid Gurkha... It looked like a real inefficiency in the market, a loophole. I thought I remembered watching positive reviews a few years ago; People still say good things on CI reviews. Pray for me because I won a few auctions for some five packs. Not again though. (This whole shift of opinion has happened over the course of maybe 4 days of being somewhat obsessed with the online cigar world. For some reason I get a strong urge to immerse myself in this world at least one week per year)

I like the look of Ave Maria and the Crusader oriented lingo and won a box. I like the aesthetic of Man O War with the gladiator or Spartan helmet but I don't like to say "Man Oh War" out loud so I don't know if I will be buying them after also hearing of some quality issues... Assuming I will be getting a "decent cigar" from these offerings, according to reviews and what is said here. I bought some PUNCH because London Club Maduro was the best cigar I smoked for a long time.

TL,DR
Looking for something cool to look at in addition to good smoke.. Doesn't matter if they can be found on this site or for super cheap.
I want to be a fancy boy. I want cigars that offend and intrigue.

I've literally never had one before in my life.. I thought I knew the truth about them, that they aren't amazing, and not worth what they usually sell for outside of samplers. But then a bunch of people said that they aren't even mediocre, and I am now sad that I bought a bunch for $2 each to be delivered this week.. It's a weird feeling and I still don't know who is right.. They keep selling them to people who smoke them? Like I don't want to have these in my humidor for a couple months just to find out they really are not good.
What do you think of them?

Sorry mate I don't really refine past the brainstorming phase on these sorts of matters.. You're definitely right I mean it's pretty much the story of a guy who has spent way too much time on the internet reading the opinions of a couple dozen cigar snobs who had a bad experience with a brand once.. or is it? Please Mr. Sellers tell me, is Gurkha as bad as people say? You seem like you know things. What is good in this world?

Yes that would be great..

I think I found one and a solution to the dilemma.. I'm going to pick up some Ramon Bueso's and draw hand grenades on the wrappers with Gold Elite Series (TM) Sharpie. GES ink has real 24 karat gold mined in Cuba according to a guy on Alibaba.

But I'm open to your suggestions as well

Gurkhas are the best. But you can't buy the cheap ones..try the His Majesty's Reserve. They're about $750 a cigar, $15,000 for a box. You can't get any fancier than that.

Most of the guys here are anti-Gurkha and not without reason. I've smoked a lot of different Gurkhas and came to the following conclusions. If it's a variety that's been around a long time-avoid them. If only one place has a particular variety - avoid them. Forget about the infused overpriced tubed crap. If you find one you like, buy a chitload of them because after a while they will change the blend and they will suck. Until recently Gurkhas were made by other cigar companies - not sure if this will change anything. In my last trip to a brick and mortar shop, the only Gurkha they had for sale was the Ghost.
There are some good Gurkhas, some bad ones, a few that are really good and a few that are really bad, but the bulk of them are mediocre. I may smoke one today or tomorrow if it stops raining.

On another board, I've conversed with industry insiders. Some have made the claim that Gurkha releases a new cigar using very high end tobacco. Once the cigar garnishes good reviews, they start substituting inferior tobacco. Again, only claims with no proof. I did experience this first hand with the Black Dragon. I was fortunate to win some of the last of the initial release for cheap. They where fantastic. The wrapper was so oily, that the cigars had a wet oil line behind the burn. The release disappeared for a couple months and then came back. The new ones where average at best and lacked the oil line behind the burn, which lead me to the assumption that they had changed the wrapper. Just my personal experience. Maybe my assumption was correct, and maybe it was wrong.

One of the good ones was the Black Dragon Nublizers - they disappeared and never came back, but a while later Black Dragons came out in the churchill/presidente sizes and they were mediocre at best.

This is what I don't have time to figure out when there's so much else out there. And I've heard of too many people having the same quality issues inside a single box. It seems like they want to make a billion different cigars and if only some of them are good, that's somehow acceptable to them

LOL only trendy boneheads look for flashy , cool bands

Cigars are all about timeless, classy looking bands. The more old fashioned it looks the better. Though I do like to see some nice colors on the band. Some of my favorites are Joya De Nicaragua original band, CAO Brazilia, Partagas, Ramon Allones cuban

My favorite cigar band is now the older style Alec Bradley Tempus. I like the imperial/ Romanesque bold red, white, gold and gray with the crown and old English font.. Sadly the box I snagged today does not have such an awesome band on it because they are now somewhat toned down and boring

That's cool that you like the traditional old fashioned bands

I think Frank started to read the post and it caused a brain aneurysm to pop and his left eyeball fell out. My left nut hit the floor. I did copy and paste in google translate. What it said was. "WTF and Hell naw try Yahoo."

It reminded me of those Diamond commercials. You know the one that each year their saying would change.

Diamonds... A girl's best friend.

Diamonds... They will leave her breathless.

Then I was waiting on the next one to say...
Diamonds, That will shut her the Fug up!

Somebody hurry up and send this boy a cigar covered in glitter PLEASE! Brick wall

Seriously FruFru dude if you really like Gurkhas keep with em but if you have not figured it out yet here is the deal. Even the best looking woman in the world can have rotten puzy. When you get your first curly hair, you will realize it is not all about the glitter and glam. A true cigar smoker does not judge a cover by its book. Presentation is nice no doubt but do not let that be the deciding factor on your cigar purchase. The quality of your cigar is what impresses the grownups not how sissy pretty the band is. Well, unless you hang around with idiots and snowflakes. If so, I can get you a box of black & milds and I will put some unicorn spit on them for you so you can impress the millennials.

Remember the old saying, "You can't put lipstick on a pig" which is exactly what Gurkha has done .Anxious

You criticize my OP and then go on to write that?

I'm not out to impress anyone in the 100 square foot area that we are still allowed to smoke in these days.. I want something for my own enjoyment, which includes looking at them and their shiny fancy bands. I think I found the sweet spot with %#$#&^%@ #&$^#^&&* cigars.. Not posting it here because a bunch of jagoffs will bid them up, but not even on the same shelf as Gurkha
