I have been into prepping somewhat for a few years now. I think it makes sense that because I am still somewhat young, the odds of something happening that change our lifestyle are fairly high. That goes beyond regular short term interruptions in services, natural disasters, economic downturns, etc.. If not in my lifetime, in my son's lifetime and beyond it is almost inevitable. So I try to polish up on certain skills and plan ahead with purchases of food and other goods.

Does anyone else prep and how do cigars fit into this? Do you buy cigars with the thought that they may not be available at some point in the future (for any reason)?

this reminds me of a scene from the Walking Dead when one of the survivors comes across a military Humvee with several immobilized zombies in it. One of the zombies had a few cigars sticking out of his shirt pocket, so the survivor snatched them up and lit one...

VHS - you need to talk to Pudding Mittens - he has a huge collection and everyone here concerned about an apocalypse has his address in case cigars get hard to find.

Hey - got a new noop question idea - David Lee or Sammy ?

The original family guy, seasons 1-3, there's an episode where stewie is at a baseball game and catches a fly ball... He looks at the kid next to him and offers to trade the ball for the kids souvenir bat... When the kid gives him the bat, he smacks him upside the head, takes the ball back, and says "what did you learn?"...

I'm not a prepper...
Per se'

But I'm no UNPREPARED IDJIT by any means....

Got about 3 months , if push comes to shove...and I'm great at night recon ....learned it long ago...
If I need something...ill get it at night while your sleeping...
Im a night owl...not and early bird farmer..,

Pretty good at survival skills too, learned long ago also...
Just never practiced it lately...

One thing that really gets me though is....

If the electricity - GRID goes down...it will be ANARCHY IN ABOUT 7-14 DAYS...

IF THE SKY GOES BLACK FROM a meteor or super volcano erupts...it will be armmegeddon...

If THE MISSOURI FAULT LINE
"GOES ALL 9.5 ON THE RICHTER SCALE" ...IT WILL BE NUCLEAR MELTDOWN CITY FOR THE ENTIRE MIDWEST...RADIATION LEVELS TO THE MAX!!!
and...
Do you R.E.A.L.L.Y, THINK??? that every nuke plant operator EMPLOYEE will go to work every day to prevent meltdowns during a GRID DOWN SITUATION???

I HIGHLY DOUBT IT, Then more nuke meltdowns all over the U.S...., and Europe will be a plutonium, stronium90 and U-235 wasteland from 20+ meltdowns. FRANCE WILL ACTUALLY GLOW IN THE DARK.

NOBODY will survive a nuclear worldwide MELTDOWN SCENARIO...maybe some cockroaches, rats and blind sea animals living at 5 miles down...

Prepping?? I can't afford a $100K aluminum trench tube shelter...

I don't have anything that isn't on sale right now and packed in warehouses and on trucks.. It would be several months in before I became a worthy target for anyone.. And who is going to be looking on cigarbid then? lol

Van Halen, Not Van Hagar!..
But I do like the song 5150

I think it might be more likely an event in between the US and cigar central America, or maybe a super virus or something that takes out a chunk of the tobacco crops. There are a lot of old strains that don't really exist anymore because of disease. There are so many factors that go into growing plants, and so many different people involved and outsiders who can influence the product and cost, like government regulations and taxes........

Ok maybe I'm just looking for excuses to buy more cigars!
Do they make bundles of 50??

Bill Burr does a hilarious bit about this. He said you can save food and water, plant crops, set up a windmill etc but without a gun all you're doing is getting your place ready for the toughest guy on the block who has a gun....d'oh!

True! The reality is if anyone knows you have a stash, there’s always going to be more of them than you. I’ve read about similar conditions in Bosnia during their wars. Secrecy is ultra important. People are not nice and you can get anything with a can of preserved meat.

Bill Burr's BOV is a helicopter. He might joke about it but he's deeper in it than most people.
Having a gun doesn't make you the toughest guy on the block, but the toughest guy on the block can have a gun.

America's history includes many more examples of neighbors and strangers helping one another when SHTF than what some preppers expect...in the past couple of years, weather emergencies and other natural disasters have created life-threatening emergencies for large groups of people throughout our country...many more instances of lending a helping hand than ruthless exploitation...

Survival alone is not likely. It cracks me up when a hunter says he could survive in the woods, not impossible but unlikely when there millions thinking the same thing.

In prehistoric times, cooperation lead to farming that lead to cities. That said, the wandering hunter gatherers were healthier because they didn’t live in their own crap.

Nope, don't prep.

I have no food stores, no cache of firearms & ammunition, and no cigars. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Agreed! We just expect ruthless exploitation because that's what we have in normal times. People get nicer in times of emergency.

We haven't seen 2 weeks without food on a mass scale yet to know what will happen with this current group of consumers. Hopefully we never will..

That said, I prep now so it will be easy prepping 10 or 20 years from now. And I prep so my son will prep because he will have to prep for the next 80 years. Even with everyone working together supplies don't come out of nowhere.

Ummm yeah. You understand he's a comedian right? It's all jokes? The whole toughest guy on the block thing is a JOKE. His Bug out vehicle as you call it is a single seat helicopter that he rents (it's at an airport and NO WHERE near his home) and he has even said when not joking it takes like 45mins to start, and would suck if you had to get out fast. I don't think he's "deeper in it than most". All this people diving into helicopters and airplanes at the last second and taking off only happens in the movies.Brick wall

got no quarrel with being prepared...did that for a living during my career in public education -- I was the safety/security director for a community college district...we had a couple of 30 foot storage sheds filled with supplies at both main campuses and smaller sheds at other sites. PITA to empty and re-fill multiple 50 gal drums of treated water every few years...

had agreements with local Red Cross to operate as emergency shelter, so that alleviated having to stock more stuff on campus...mutual aid agreements in place with local law enforcement, local fire and county sheriff to utilize the campuses as emergency command posts...agreements and drills with CAEMA and FEMA...

kind of chuckle when people think public agencies are just gonna disappear into thin air when SHTF, and it'll be every man for himself...not in the USA.... at least since Katrina showed we can do much better and GWB enacted legislation to mandate federal emergency management/preparedness guidelines...

Your point is built on the idea that the general public knows exactly what Burr has access to, and beyond that I remember Bill and Joe Rogan talking on the podcast about flying together over LA, which I doubt Joe was sitting on his lap. Must have upgraded from that single seater. Regardless, any aircraft, and I would say even access to a hanger with the ability to pilot, is above and beyond what most preppers have. Following his line of thinking, it doesn't matter how nice your helicopter is, if you don't have a gun to protect it, you're just keeping it nice for the toughest guy in the port who has a gun. Not that it affects my plans at all... Let's move on shall we?

Personal question: How many cigars do you have piled for the end of the world?

At the moment I've around 95(just a newb here) but they seem to decrease in number daily Confused

Sigh... His line of thinking was a joke in his act. I didn't have any point about what the general public knows. I pointed out what I know in response to a comment you made because I listen to his podcast and have seen the pics he posted with his single seat rental. I'm sure you can rent two seaters too. As I said before, it was just a joke he made not his true feelings about preppers and not a judgement on anyone. It was just a funny joke he made....Anxious

I dunno how many I have, it changes a lot. Under 400 best guess.

peaked at 500+.
currently sit at a very comfortable 20 to 50 at any given moment.
very few are purposely aging, I'm out of that business.

also not worried about SHTF either...other than a little extra bourbon/vodka et al.
